Free Krispy Kreme with Vaccination card

Yeah, I think it is actually quite an ingenious marketing ploy. The fraction of new visitors who are not like me, and buy other items in addition to the free donut, will determine which side wins the tug-of-war.

Agreed on this point as well. Not that I’m complaining about free donuts, but given the choice between free donuts, or no donuts but more people getting vaccinated, I’m picking the latter.

I struggle with this as well. If you’re a business, can you afford to pick sides? Maybe at least KK is advancing the discussion.

The less lofty side of me says they’re looking to generate sales in any way possible. Maybe some line on a graph says people aren’t flocking to them like they did pre-COVID, so let’s appear to weigh in on the issue. It’s all about repeat business, right? Rekindle the consumers, initiate some newbs? The vaxxers will remember, “They rewarded us!” The anti-vaxxers will remember, “They didn’t force us!” Or so they hope?

The Onion’s take on this.

Krispy Kreme was all the rage when I was in high school, and I never got the appeal either. I had one when someone brought a box to class and thought “meh.” But hey, I keep my vaccine card in my wallet; maybe if I happen to pass by a store, I’ll give them another shot.

Unfortunately, they’re not in Hawaii. At least, no shops. They’re packaged in stores, shipped from the mainland, and not nearly as good as fresh. Krispy Kreme in Bangkok, that is hands down the best glazed doughnut I’ve ever had.

Also, neither crispy NOR creamy. Which I suppose accounts for the atrocious spelling.
