Anyone else watch this last night?
I thought it was a great start to the third season and I’m thrilled to have it back. Because last season was shortened due to the strike, a lot of last seasons storylines got put on hold. The new season jumps ahead to the new football season but shows us what we’ve missed since last year w/ some brief flashbacks that I thought were very well done.
We have a few good storylines already getting started, such as:
Tammy is now the principal and learning how to deal with a broken system that allows teachers to be laid off and have to buy their own supplies out of pocket while the football team gets new computers every couple of years.
Tyra is determined to go to a good college, and won’t let the new guidance counselor squash her goals.
Riggins and Lyla are secretly dating.
Saracen having some competition from a new phenom QB.
Smash Williams recovering from a late season injury during his senior year which caused him to lose his scholarship. Coach Taylor is working hard with him to try and get him back to playing football. This is my favorite storyline of the night. The actor that plays Smash is really good and I always seeing him given a chance to show his acting skills.
I’ve heard that this season will be closer to Season One than Season Two as far as quality and story. I can’t wait to see what else the new year has in store for the Dillon Panthers.
I’ve been watching on DirecTV’s channel 101. The season finale was this week. I won’t spoil anything for you, except to say that I was really happy with all of it. Even Lyla. I used to fast-forward her scenes, but she’s bearable this season.
Peter Berg’s doing a new show set in a mental hospital. We saw trailers for it all season. I don’t know if NBC will show those or not. It looks good.
Great show! Kyle Chandler is one of my favourites.
I went to high school and did theatre with Zach Gilford (Matt Saracen). It’s fun to watch him, though really hard to think of him as ‘Matt’ instead of ‘Zach’. I’m impressed with how he’s grown as an actor.
I love this show. The football scenes are exceedingly well shot although the dramatic finifhes are a little over the top. The best part is the realistic display of interaction between teenagers themselves, with their parents, and with their teachers. They really get it right.
That said, the Riggins/Lyla thing just doesn’t work for me. I can’t see any way those two would hook up in normal life. Even in the show it seems like she can’t stand him.
I just watched the last episode of either series 3 or all time and thought that it was a great way to tie things up in either case. It has been one of my favorite TV shows of all time. I really like the realistic look and feel achieved by their “no rehearsal, no blocking, just three cameras and we shoot” filming method.
