Friday the 13th: The Series

Friday the 13th: The Series was one of the best shows ever, for two seasons.

From the creepy theme music, to the creepy cinematography, to the creepy (but fine) Robey… everything about this show’s first two seasons was wonderful!
Did you like it?

Is a DVD available?

Why did they ruin the show in Season 3?
Even tho I was majorly in lust with cousin Micki, Ryan was my favorite character. Because they wrote him to act without thinking and make some perillously wrong descisions, yet the TV show formula of resolving the episode happened any ways.

I used to turn off all the lights in the house, unplug the phone, turn the a/c or heater to whatever made the place bone chilling cold, get a big mug of hot chocolate, and hope ever so that I would get all creeped out by something.

Man, what a cool show it was. :frowning:

I liked the show but I always thought it was a rather poor choice of titles. Most of the people I knew were expecting Jason to machete poeple, not some Twilight Zone type entertainment.

Yeah, I was one of the lucky ones. I had heard about it at a Trek convention, so I knew the premise and the Jasonlessness of it.

If not, I might not have ever seen it, since I don’t enjoy the Jason movie franchise.

Mmm. Micki’s mane. Mmm.

I liked the show but it seemed they started to run out of ideas. Another good show in the same vein is Poltergeist: The Legacy but I could only watch when my cable messed up or Showtime did a free promo.

There is no DVD currently, and John D. LeMay who played Ryan wanted to leave the show, and his character was killed off at the end of season 2.

Was he killed? I vaguely recall that he was somehow magically transformed into a little child… which amounted to the same thing, from a dramatic standpoint. Either way, Ryan was gone.

My recollection also is that they didn’t exactly kill off his character, but “disposed” of him in a rather inventive manner – I think it was something along the lines of Ryan dying in the effort of thwarting some apocalyptic satanic ritual, and then being raised from the dead, but regressed to something like age 8 in the process. Not nearly as much of a downer as even a heroic “permanent” death would have been, but it still put him out of action indefinitely.

I liked the show a lot too. It had it’s ups and downs, but there were plenty of interesting and clever evil artifacts and plot twists, and its body count among sympathetic supporting characters gave it a level of “no one is safe” menace equaled in a TV series only by Doctor Who.

I believe they re-edited some episodes into TV movies in a manner similar to what was done with Kolchak: The Night Stalker. Are these, or any real episodes, out on videotape either? Archaic format would be better than nothing.

It was The Prophecies, the two parter that opened Season 3 which had Ryan teurned into a newt, I mean little kid.

John D. LeMay (Ryan) left the series and Steve Monarque (as Johnny Ventura), a reccurring guest star took over the young male lead. Also, Louise Robey started being billed as Robey. Just the one name.

IMHO, this is when the show lost its magic.

I have not spoken to them, so I have no idea about price or legality. Play at your own risk.
