I haven’t paid much attention to FDH and might be getting her confused with someone else but…
She seems genuinely knowledgeable about cooking.
Her tales of a very bad marriage and a life of troubled sexuality haven’t seemed too outrageous to me. I haven’t cross referenced the details.
In the current Tawnee Stone thread, she didn’t read the OP, and couldn’t give a clean apology, but Cisco’s “fuck you” post in that thread did warrant mod intervention. My guess is that if she hangs around SDMB she’ll get better about giving non-snotty apologies.
In summary: She seems overall good for the board rather than bad, but I could be wrong.
Fair enough; but my point was that a line needs to be drawn, and I don’t get why rape treated as so much more horrible than other violent crimes.

I agree with the mod action for Cisco, his post was out of line for MPSIMS. I’m uncertain as to why another poster implying that he is a pedophile is not also out of line for that forum.

Ms. Dough Ho didn’t call Cisco a pedophile or a ephebophile. At worst, she implied that he had semi-knowingly watched porno featuring under-aged actresses.
She didn’t imply it was a preference of his, or an activity that he pursued in real life. I think those factors would be necessary for an actual accusation of pedophilia.
It was a misguided accusation, and she later apologized (poorly.)

I agree with posters that have agreed with other posters who said stuff that agrees with me.
I wasn’t aware of FDH’s “tall tales” until this thread, but the majority opinion expressed here has kind of struck a nerve with me.
I am reminded of the time I invited my girlfriend to my Mom’s birthday back in '99. My Dad was quite a character, and in the course of the birthday party, he related a few of his colorful experiences. No big deal to me - I’d been hearing tales of his and my mother’s (less unusual) experiences all my life. I was really surprised, however, to my girlfriend’s take on my Dad when we talked afterwards. She thought he was completely full of shit, and nothing I could say could convince her otherwise. This really bothered me at the time, because no matter what flaws you could accurately ascribe to my father - never listens to anyone, rough with his children, an overbearing prick at times, etc. - he simply was NOT the kind of guy who just made shit up to make himself look like a big shot. Compared to my life (to this point) and those of everyone I know, he actually was a big shot.
There really are people who have led more interesting lives than you or me. Whether or not FDH’s stories are actually true, it seems really sad that many here seem to think that simply because her purported experiences are outside the norm, that is sufficient cause to call her a liar.
I come here partly to read about other people’s experiences. If everyone’s life really was as boring as mine, it wouldn’t make for a very entertaining read…
I think a great many [del]mods[/del] people confuse “offensive” with “insulting”, and then make the leap from “insulting” to “personal insult”. There simply isn’t anything personally directive about “fuck off” (which Cisco still didn’t say). “Get the fuck out of my face” isn’t even close to that. Suggesting that mods now need to police the use of “fuck” as an adverb/adjective is cleaning the language up beyond what’s allowed on prime time television.
There is no specific language restriction in CS. You can say fuck in there all you like as long as it’s not insulting someone.
