I’m not sure that’s correct. But even if it was, I did qualify my statement by saying, “Whether or not FDH’s stories are actually true”.
It’s more of a general trend that I’ve noticed here over the years, rather than anything specific to her story (although, just to put it out there, my father actually was involved in Panamanian money-laundering, as my brother and I discovered after he passed away. It does happen.)
Was he also raped twice? Did he date two different celebrities, and witness secret Masonic rites? Oh, and did he have three lesbian lovers who later had sex changes?
No. But I hardly find that an outrageous claim (sadly).
Not that I am aware of, although from the links I’ve seen here, she only claimed one date with Weird Al as a teenager and making out with Bourdain once. I have no idea how likely the Masonic rites witnessing is, as the only experience I have with anything even tangentially related to that is being a member of DeMolay when I was 18-19 (I joined because one of my friends was in and I liked the sports events they orgainzed).
Well, I’ll give you that one. It certainly does seem a bit of a stretch. But if my Dad was a Doper and shared his stories here, I’m sure that many of his true (and verifiable) experiences would be similarly disbelieved.
There’s not a person here living out on their own in the real world, who, if you took their most unusual experiences and posted them, wouldn’t sound over the top. I have no idea if FDH is telling the truth or not, but the fact that her stories are out of the norm is not really note-worthy. Her inconsistencies are more troubling, but it’s easy to mix up details after all this time. I don’t understand why she posted the rape thread, but whatever reason, I can’t claim to know that her stories have all been made up. Who knows? Maybe she dated Chastity Bono (killing two categories with one stone!)

Well, it depends. Would your father post in a manner similar to that of the black-catters one of the australian dopers mentioned recently? Because if so, I, too, would roll my eyes and dismiss his stories. It’s not just that her stories are unbelievable, it’s that she has to have the bestest most outrageous story ever.

Maybe, but if someone is insulting you without basis or calling you a pedo for no reason, I would interpret ‘get the fuck out of my face’ as closer to ‘leave me the fuck alone’ - less of a personal insult, and more of a foul mouthed demand not to be treated unfairly (by specifically asking that the person not interact with you at all).

I never said that people don’t live on boats, or more specifically, that FDH herself hadn’t lived on a boat. That would be an odd thing to make up, especially in the thread I linked to. MOL had said that she had an interesting life and I was using this as another example.
In fact, I never said that any one of FDH’s stories are not true. Someone upthread asked,* is it so hard to believe that people have more interesting lives than you do (paraphrased)? * Not at all. 75% of the people I know have more interesting lives than I do.
It’s just noticeable when someone has been here for about 6 months and has shared the level and number of lived experiences that FDH has. I can be skeptical about the details of the sum total of her stories without thinking that any one story is made up.
The two main things that raise my suspicions are the contradictory facts in stories and the reaction on questioning that this thread produced: You either trust me or you don’t and since you don’t I’m out of here.
If she were really good, she’d fake her own death. We haven’t had one of those in a while.
