So who’s flogging themselves for 40 days? I’m off today to drive Roomie to Clemmons. NC for more knee appointments so I may check in the afternoon. So hijack away.
And currently it’s 45 degrees Ferret Height(7.222 Centipedes) and cloudy.
First! Woot!
Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 5c/42f with a predicted high of 7c/45f and a chance of showers. Weather app says “Go home, Mother Nature. You’re fucking drunk.” Well, it’s been raining, and now the sun’s out so I’d say Mother Nature’s got over it.
As a happy atheist, I am more than happy to be celebrating Pancake Day ![]()
Today got off to a good start, the roofers turned up early and got straight to work - Muffin wasn’t very happy about it as they were working on the opposite side of the wall to where her bed is. Then I rang the DWP call centre number and finally got through to a person after an hour or so on hold listening to some pretty awful music. They’ve got the right details now, so they can schedule another time to call me and talk about what they need to know.
I have to be on campus tomorrow so I’ve got to sort out some food for the next couple of days, and I’ve booked myself onto a Spin class at the gym later this evening. That should keep me out of mischief for a while.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 55 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 68 and sunny. We shall be RDOS sloths until it’s time to head over to the church house for men’s night. I have to people a lot this week. ICK! By Thursday I will want to shut myself in a closet and lie on the floor.
I will participate in a virtual (I guess that’s the right word) study of a book entitled The Big Relief durin’ Lent. It’s about God’s grace and all that there stuff. Been readin’ the book and the first session is Thursday evenin’. I figure I can do that for an hour once a week.
JtC the area was under a tornado watch yestiddy until mid-afternoon, plus there were a few tstorms in the area. The sirens will sound when watches/warnin’s are issued. Thus the sirens. The most interior places in the church proper are the men’s room, a storage closet and the Sacristy. In the parish hall, there is a classroom, a large storage closet and both the ladies’ and men’s rooms for shelter.
red the license I spoke of is issued by the Diocese and means I can do such things as Verger, Chalice and preside at a lay lead service. I can’t perform marriages or even sermonize. I could preach if’n I was willin’ to go through a year long trainin’ course. However my spirit and flesh ain’t willin’ to do so.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
Happy Moanday Y’all!
So glad to se a new MMP - I know I said last week that I had a brilliant idea for one, but apart from sleeping too long, when I re-read what I’d written, it was pretty weak… doggio saved me!! My hero!!! ![]()
Today starts with 34 Ferrets and overcast, and promises of mid-40s and maybe a little sun. Maybe. I get Tobias today since he doesn’t have school and his parents both need to work. Except SIL is sick today, so I need to fetch the boy myself. If the boat does, in fact, go in the water today and if I get enough warning, I’ll be taking him to the marina to watch the evolution. Otherwise, I’m not sure what the day will bring.
A good bit of snow has melted - in some parts of the yard, there’s more ground than snow visible. And with a good bit of warm and sun forecast, all but the biggest piles should be gone in short order. Unfortunately, that means a mucky mess of a yard for a while, and it’ll get muckier thanks to a certain canine.
Speaking of whom, FCD is getting a big taste of how much I used to do in dog care in the past. Yesterday, Otis wanted out, then in, then out, then in. If I happened to be up and about, I’d deal with it, but while I was crocheting and watching TV, I merely said “Dog wants out” or “Dog wants in” and I’d hear an exasperated exhalation. He doesn’t mind feeding and he likes taking the dog in the car, but the mundane stuff is pissing him off. Oh well…
As to the topic, being a very lapsed Catholic (I shan’t expound on my opinions of the hierarchy and its actions/inactions) Lent has no meaning to me other than figuring out when we’ll be going to my family’s Easter doin’s - and those pretty much revolve around an egg hunt for the littles, plus much food.
And so it begins. I must plan some entertainment for My Best Boy In The World. And I think I’ll pull a meatloaf out of the freezer for supper today or tomorrow. That’s as far ahead as I’ve thought.
Happy Moanday and Happy President’s Day for those who care about such things.
Oatmeal(apples and cinnamon) and bagel(Aldi Hawaiian with veggie cream cheese has been ingested. Spot has had his First and Second Breakfasts(dry, flavorless bits).
They’re doing preventative maintenance tomorrow. Spot will be cross that an extra primate came into his domicile.
“God love you all. Personally I find less than ten percent of you tolerable.”
Last egg hunt I went on, I found out .30-06 isn’t an appropriate caliber to use.
This year, for Lent, I’m giving up self sacrifice. It will be hard, but I’m determined to persevere.
Done with the two concert week. This week is only one concert (plus Ash Wednesday Mass), so I’ll be slightly less crazy, and actually have Saturday off.
Now to see if insurance will tell me something about my car this week. Which reminds me that I have to call Enterprise to extend my rental.
He wouldn’t have enjoyed being here today. Muffin had to make a hasty retreat into the bookcase because two extra primates came into the house and went up in the roof.
Blossom is investigating the ladder that’ ‘im indoors has left up here (he thinks he might go and have a nose in the loft too). I’ll have to be careful in case Blossom decides she wants a look in the roofspace too!
After a dry December, January and first two weeks of February, we’re finally getting drenched here south of San Jose. It looks like three or four days of steady rain, then a break, then several more days of rain. Yay! Looking forward to a rich green spring.
I made a buttload of crunchy fried shrimp for lunch yesterday, and there are leftovers in the fridge. Even cold and un-crunchy, they’re good, so we’ll have them for lunch again today, supplemented with salad.
I evicted a non-performing azalea from its big planter tub and replaced it with a respected name-brand azalea. Its blooms are pink-and-white striped and I’m hoping it’ll bloom in a few weeks. All the plants are getting free sky water right now so I don’t have to go out there with my watering can today. Or for the next couple of weeks.
Good morning everyone, being a lapsed catholic, I rarely remember the holy days anymore. Maybe I’ll celebrate by going to a Friday fish fry, most of the restaurants out way this still do them.
It looks like all that money we threw at the house’s insulation and windows last year was a good investment, the house never went under 60 last night and the small heater in my room kept my lemon tree nice and warm.
Hopefully the repair guy will have the necessary parts and our winter heating emergency will be over by this evening.
I have some administrivia to get done this morning, but it shouldn’t take long. Hubs wants some more brownies so that will happen this morning as well. I might make a batch of regular brownies to take to the old farts home as well. Or I might make a batch of cookies for them, it will depend on what falls off the pantry shelves when I start digging around for supplies.
I’d ask James what he would prefer but I’ve found out that James will lie and will always pick the choice he thinks is easiest or less expensive for me, not what he really wants.
I’m about half way through Diablo II with my new Warlock and I’m not really sure if I will finish the game. I just walked through a part that used to take me over an hour to defeat before and there is no way to get out of easy mode.
Have a very safe drive, wet roads make for interesting times on the highways at times.
Its been more than 40 years since I was last in areas of big wind storms. Do they still recommend getting in the bathtub if that’s the best you can do?
I hope you enjoy your book study group. I do like discussing books with other folks who share my interests.
I used to look forward to easter because of the candy. Cadbury eggs have also been enshitified in recent years so even that little joy has been taken away.
At least the colors are the same. I do like easter colors and most easter projects use wools and pearls and I like working with them a bunch too so easter is really my favorite stitching season. My second favorite is Hanukkah because I like working with shiny silver and blue threads and I like the geometrics, christmas is my very least favorite season to stitch for. (So why did I pick xmas colors for my big yearly piece this year? Who knows.)
Well, my list isn’t getting things crossed off as long as I’m hanging out with all of you good folks, I hope you all have great days!
Mornin’ everyone.
It’s 31F and cloudy at the moment. Morning rain showers will give way to steadier afternoon rain, with an expected high of 44F.
I am not religious, so Lent means nothing to me. I do remember having to eat fish or fried eggs and spinach on Fridays will growing up.
JtC, I’m glad all the investment you’ve put into your home has paid off.
Today’s administrivia involves my garbage company. Last week, they didn’t pick up our garbage, so I called them and asked why. They told me it was an error and someone would be out in the next day or two to pick it up. No one ever showed up, so now I’ve got two weeks’ worth of garbage and not enough room in the can. I’m pretty irritated.
Other than that, I have some household chores to do, and that’ll probably be it for the day.
Please take care of yourselves.
Same. I tend to celebrate the holidays that involve food, family, fun and / or drink, but Lent does none of those.
Drive carefully, doggio!
Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. After houseirk, I’ll hem the other pair of PJ pants and get that over with. I may put a movie on while I do that.
Stay safe and healthy y’all!
the weekend went as weekends do; too quickly.
i am contemplating a new chair. got a new couch last year, and saw a chair i liked as well. the good thing is they have a swivel version now. helpful so i can look out the window or look at the tv, depending on my whim. i will take another look at it in the show room and then decide. lager would def. enjoy the new chair. koritza will need time to warm up to it. this is the colour i’m thinking, Amelia Grand Chair | Joybird although i really like Amelia Grand Chair | Joybird that colour doesn’t come in the pet friendly fabric. lager is an insane shedder, so i really need the pet friendly fabric. his fur just wipes off that fabric.
it is going to be a wet week. the temps have been rising, we are at 34f now. there was a bit of a dusting of snow this morning. we should be getting into the mid 40s with a bit of rain here and there.
onward to the work week.
Never much into flogging, more for slothing…I can easily do 40 days of sloth… Up and more or less alert (because America needs the lerts). Dry and clear today, high will be around 65F and tomorrow promises near 70F, so a good start to the week. Need to do the usual Moanday Shop-n-Sammich, it is HoneyCrisp apple week so I’ll get those along with assorted odds and ends before my Jersey Mike’s Club Sammich. I really should spend the afternoon cleaning around the house, but probably will go to the gym instead because I am in a rut for doing things. At least the ear seems to be doing better, no real pain and sleeping well (outside of Bladder alerts…).
And now to see how everyone else is starting the week…
boo fae, never heard of Pancake Day, looked it up and it is tomorrow (17 Feb) so I will be sure to celebrate it. Also the USA Has a National Pancake Day (September 26th), but we have National Days for damn near everything…and glad the roofers are finally roofing.
Swampy, we only get the sirens when there is the imminent chance of a tornado, for thunderstorms we are pretty much on our own. Plus the siren goes off at Noon every Wednesday for testing purposes, so it helps to set my clocks…
Who will also get mucky and track it into the house…ain’t pets wonderful?
Well-played. Hope the insurance comes through.
lucky, glad someone is happy about being rained on for days on end.
JtC, I can remember working in a restaurant in my College days and always dreading Fridays when Perch dinners were the special and we’d go through a massive amount of fish from 4-10pm…and I don’t particularly like fish.
Taters, hope your trash gets picked up today, I usually put mine out every other week as I don’t normally generate as much stuff as two or more people do, but if they were to miss me for a week, it mught get messy.
Another (col)-lapsed Cat-Lick here, don’t even try to keep up with the religious seasons, I depend on swampy to remind me now and then.
rocky, Ooh, I like that chair, I have a sectional set now so no room for it, but one of these days when I move to a apartment, I’ll hopefully remember that.
And into the week I go. Have a good one all.
Good morning, everyone. Working for a bank, Mrs Magill had the day off, so I slept in for a bit before getting up and taking the dog out. Once she’s out of the crate, if we’re not walking, she’s in our room like a shot. She’s got to see her primary human.
Breakfast was oatmeal and an orange. I still have to get my last cup of coffee.
Lent this year will be the usual caffeine and alcohol. Not looking forward to that first part.
Off to refill my coffee and then call the eye doctor for a cataract consultation.
Trash day is tomorrow, but since the truck shows up early in the morning, we put the trash out the night before. I need to call them today to remind them they never picked it up. We’re charged whether we put a can out or not, and I’m not going to pay for a service I didn’t receive because they didn’t pick it up. However, since today is a holiday, I’m beginning to wonder if I’ll actually reach anyone.
Edit: I just called them. Apologies, etc. They said to put out an extra bag and it’ll be picked up at no additional charge.
Sometimes we had Mercurochrome, sometimes we had Merthiolate.
35 Ferrets (2 Centipedes) out there; the weatherguessers are still saying we’ll hit 40 (4.4), for the first time this year. Highs of 40 or 41 predicted for the rest of the week. I hope the Canadians do a better job of keeping their weather on a leash the rest of the month.
Today is Washington’s Birthday, so I suppose the library will be closed. I still think public libraries should be open 24/7/52.
Visiting my doctor this afternoon for a six-month (or thereabouts) checkup. Strictly speaking, I guess, she’s a nurse practitioner, but she has a DNP so I can call her “doctor”.
Other than that, today (and most of the rest of the week) will be “RDOS! RDOS! Rah rah rah!”
I forgot about the holiday as well, so a few of my tasks cannot be completed to day. Two of them involved calls to not-government offices and were successfully completed, so I’d guess you should be able to expect to talk to a person about this. I wish you much luck and success!
I wish you much success with your call as well. Its been almost a year since mine and I’m still super thrilled with the results. No more threading needles by touch and I got all of the colors back!
Yeah, that would suck. Perch isn’t that strong smelling when you are only cooking for a few people, that many fish in a small kitchen might get a little rank.
although i really like Amelia Grand Chair | Joybird
I like that color as well, but I do agree that if you have cats, you must have pet friendly fabric.
Lent does none of those.
It gave us fish-sticks and fish frys. I like both of them!
After a dry December, January and first two weeks of February, we’re finally getting drenched here south of San Jose.
I’m so glad you folks are finally getting some much needed rain, but a nice lush spring often means a long bad fire season.
Muffin had to make a hasty retreat into the bookcase because two extra primates came into the house and went up in the roof.
HORROR!!!
We will be having an extra primate or two here this afternoon as well. George hates it when strangers come into his home and start pounding on things, he usually retreats to his blankie Cave of Solitude and pouts nowadays. As it is an invisible fortress, Jolene gets left alone to entertain the new men by herself.
Now to see if insurance will tell me something about my car this week.
Remind the insurance person that they are paying for your rental which needs to be extended.
I have finished what I can do off my list today and my uniform is in the dryer. I still need to pack our lunch/snack box but I’ve got the samwiches made and the snacks portioned already so that won’t take but a minute. Other than ironing my uniform, I’ve got a few hours of time to stitch before leaving for the capital so I should be able to finish the layer I’m currently looking at. I know all of the stitches already, its just a LOT of counting.
Have great days everyone!
I used to look forward to easter because of the candy. Cadbury eggs have also been enshitified in recent years so even that little joy has been taken away.
Ditto, but I have discovered pączki, which are a more than adequate substitute (though they don’t last nearly as long in the pantry.
Drive carefully, doggio!
You don’t have to if you don’t want to! ![]()
(because America needs the lerts)
On the other hand, I think we have far too many bsurds.
boo fae, I know it’s not quite the right time of year, but while I’m thinking about it: Does the sovereign still hand out Maundy money? If so, how are the recipients selected?
Sandpiper is afloat again!!! WOOHOO!!!
Tobias had a big morning. He saw the boat come out of the paint shed, then get picked up by the travelift, then put in the water. THEN he got to ride in it back to our slip! Finally, when we were tied up and the engine was turned off, he went up to the flybridge and got to turn the wheel!!
Once back home, we had lunch, and he’s watching Paw Patrol Mighty Pups for the gazillionth time. I need some chillage. Then I need to find out if he’s being picked up or if I have to deliver him to his folks.
Time to get to my comfy chair.
Flogging myself for forty days? Maybe as a teenager. . .
46F at 1041 ante meridiem, and sunny skies.
I had good intentions of making the adovada yesterday, but ran out of steam after doing the laundry. I did manage to make chicken stock out of the remains of one of those grocery roasted birds, however, so that will add some punch to the flavor profile. The wife has volunteered to chop onions for this, which is a big plus, as the recipe calls for two cups.
