Fringe 3/18

Nope, but the alt-universe Lincoln did recognize Nick Lane, the Cortexiphan Kid who had mind control. So they’re connected in some way or another.

Other than Walternate, the cutesy nicknames need to stop. Just call them [name] Blue or [name] Red and it’s completely clear, without getting all TWOPpy. For instance, in this episode we finally meet Lincoln Blue. Simple, non cutesy, gets the job done.

And get off my lawn!

I’ll continue to use “Fauxlivia”. They even called her that in the show, so it’s canon.

Not digging “Parallee”, though. Any other ideas?

Except I don’t know which universe is blue and which one is red. I’m good with Prime and Alternate, though.

My favourite Walter line of the night - “Collecting bodily fluids and tissue samples - just like when we were kids!”

Do we think Walter will get around to asking Bell why he cut out parts of his brain? [Maybe that was explained & I’ve forgotten] And has anyone ever conjectured where Bell’s alt universe double is & what he’s doing? or is he conveniently dead?

Question from a casual watcher of the show: Do they ever explain the symbols in the opening credits and commercial breaks?

[spoiler]Bell cut out parts of Walter’s brain because Walter asked him to - apparently Walter was becoming such a “monster” Walter wanted himself stopped. Never made a lot of sense to me, but then, Walter IS insane.

Bell’s double in the Red Universe died in a car crash as a young man and apparently never met Walternate[/spoiler]

There were two reasons given. I’ll just look up the episodes and…

In “Grey Matters” Newton removes the brain pieces from three mental patients to hook them back up to Walter. His reason is to learn about how he made the door to the other side. At the end of the episode it shows Bell about to operate on Walter telling him that the knowledge of the door is too dangerous and needs to be hidden.

Towards the end of “Over There” part 2 Bell tells Walter that he took out brain pieces because Walter asked him too. Bell said that Walter was afraid of what he was becoming.

Thanks for the answers, guys.

As for the symbols, don’t their first letters spell out something meaningful, or something. may be info at show’s official site.

I didn’t see the watcher this week.

The symbols are a code, a cipher actually. If you have the key you can translate them into letter and they spell out a word related to each episode. There are decoders on line if you search for them.

Ah, thanks!

Much better episode than last.

I liked Peter’s horror about Bellivia–that’s too often forgotten in SF tv shows.

Hated the cute blonde’s speech to the chubby suicidal guy. I kept expecting her to break out into that crappy old song “I believe for…every drop…of rainthatfalls. A flowwwwwwwer grows.” Bah.

Bellivia did just a wonderful job of imitating Nimoy–not just the flat raspy voice, but absolutely dead-on gestures, head/arm movement, facial expressions. Seriously–I’ve seen Rich Little and was never impressed–this impressed me. For example, look where she’s using the gieger counter on the car: she’s kind of kneeling and grunts a little and hesitated a split second when she stands up–exactly like an older guy used to just those joint aches and pains would. She’ll never get an Emmy for this but she deserves one.

Yeah–and glasses guy is good.

The legend about Azrael was annoying. It’s a perfectly OK made up legend–but Azrael is an archangel, (in some traditions the Angel of Death)–it was annoying to use his name in that story–it’s like telling a story about a rogue highwayman who steals only from beautiful women and his calling-card is a kiss. And then naming him “Robin Hood”. If you’re going to make up a legend, don’t use an inappropriate name for the character.

Sprint product placement was tacky and unsubtle.

Weren’t they high when he made that suggestion?

I took the cow suggestion as a joke.

Why John Noble doesn’t have an Emmy already for gosh sakes

Maybe it was intended to be a joke. The trouble is, on this show, so many times I say, “They’ve got to be joking”, but they’re not.

At the end of the last episode, I thought the Olivia-possessed-by-Bell was kind of cheesy. But the actress totally sold me on it this episode. For me, the best moment was Bell and Walter together in the lab, giggling over the idea of Bell’s consciousness being put into the cow. She was very clearly Bell and not Olivia.

Given this plus the differences between Olivia and Fauxlivia, I’m rather impressed by the actress.

I think another nice touch was Bellivia not wearing make-up - Olivia isn’t usually made up to the nines, but it was nice that she had less make-up on then usual - an old man would never think to make up his face before going out.

We’ve sort of made a game out of mocking the commercials within the tv shows - you can’t fight 'em, you might as well mock 'em.

Good question. I too am crossing my fingers and hoping this show doesn’t get cancelled - I enjoy it far too much.

I wasn’t sure if I was entertained by Astrid’s uncomfortableness with Bellivia - maybe someone should have politely asked him/her to knock that shit off.

the frustrations of tv - a show like Desperate Housewives gets renewed well past it’s sell by date, yet we have to worry and fret about a creative show like Fringe getting renewed.

Why is everybody worried? Is there some talk or rumors I haven’t heard about?
