In the fifties (F) today, as I was getting home around 6PM, the wind was crazy fierce and they are calling for 14 degrees tonight.
Yup, forecast was accurate: down to -35 C now.
Too hot.
Woke up to -38 C. Plus fog. Wind chill of -49.
Hmm - that was the weather network page on my phone.
The Environment Canada webpage is a bit harsher. It says it’s -40 C, with a windchill of -51 C.
Gorsnak, what’s it like for you today?
Slightly “warmer” than yesterday: -38 windchill -47, with a forecast for temperatures slowly moderating over the next week, though even then the tail end of the long range is still 5 degrees below seasonal norms.
Aaand the trusty car said “No thanks. Staying home this morning.”
Had to walk to work.
Temps have risen to the -20’s, but this will be our third day of freezing rain, now with the bonus of howling winds! The roads and sidewalks are beyond treacherous! Ugh!
During the recent cold snap here, bus drivers were letting me ride for free, something they can do “at their discretion.” Being a disabled senior citizen has its perks!
It is -20C currently, and snowing. I’ve got to fly out of town for business today. I hope the local airport has de-icing equipment.
Turned out the battery had frozen, and CAA was so busy we didn’t get it fixed until Monday night.
Walked to work on Friday in -40 C (-51C with windchill).
Walked to work on Monday in -29 C (dunno about windchill).
Car now working again. This weekend, off to Canadian Tire to get a battery blanket installed.
The local airport had de-icing equipment, and it was used. So did the airport where I caught my connecting flight. On the way back, de-icing equipment was used for each flight I took. Each de-icing causes a delay, which means that you’d better build plenty of time into a connection, and bring a good book.
People who schedule meetings in February in Edmonton should rethink whether the meeting can be postponed until such a time when the temperature (before the wind chill is added) is warmer than -25C. Either that, or hold February meetings in Hawaii.
You still have to get to Hawaii…
We had our coldest part of the winter. Really tough. It got down to 12 degrees. C, of course. Everyone here was dying.
I feel for you!!!
True, but I’m pretty sure that there won’t be a delay caused by de-icing in Honolulu.
-34 this morning (windchill -44). Getting tired of this, but the long range still doesn’t have any numbers that aren’t way below seasonal norms.
There’s not even any skiing on Mauna-Kea at the moment Mauna Kea Webcam showing current snow conditions . Hawaii Ski Club
After several days of inching up temps, fleeting glimpses of actual sunshine, clear roads and diminishing dirty ice piles, we woke this morning…
To more snow! ::::very, very heavy sigh::::
ETA: Sorry for your snow, Elbows - we had flurries last night, but I stand by this post that I typed while you were posting…
Since this got bumped, I just want to say WE MADE IT, GANG*!*
It’s finally Spring, people*!*
This winter kicked my ass, and I feel like I’m crawling out of a weather-induced depression. I kept telling myself “Don’t make major decisions when you’re depressed.” So I did NOT leave my wife and kids and just start driving south until I found green grass and sunshine and apply for a stockboy position at the first Wal-Mart I saw and find an apartment and start a new life there… I mean, not that I thought of that three days a week…
It’s 28ºF today in Wisconsin. Sure, that’s chilly, but it’s 28 degrees… ABOVE ZERO! We’re on track to get above freezing every day in the long-term forecast.
