Yes, since Iranian leaders’ fervent goal is to destroy Israel and establish a caliphate over the entire Middle East (at minimum) and the U.S. and Israel are standing in its way, it could be said that Iran’s troubles are largely due to those two countries.

Public goal, maybe (not even sure about that second part without a cite). But public goals are often political claptrap (example - almost anything Trump says publicly) with little to do with reality (or the real goals and desires). The past several decades have shown that Iran is not nearly as much of a threat as the warmongers would like us to believe. The past few years have shown us that Israel and the United States are at least as dangerous as Iran in terms of body count.
Nothing Iran can do would ever make the US hate them less; America hates them for the same reason it hates Cuba. They defied their rightful overlords and follow the wrong religion, so they must be punished for it in blood and destruction and torture.

I am late, but according to documents from the time made available recently, it would transpire that the idea of the coup was the British government’s.
The oil companies being nationalized by Mossadegh were all British, and it was the British who went to the US and asked them to help the UK with the coup. This was in 1952, but the government at the time (Truman’s) was not particularly keen on that.
It would seem that the British told the US government that Mossadegh would be unable to prevent a communist takeover. However, at the time (1952), the US were not very willing to help.
It would be under Eisenhower that the British were able to convince the US government using the “communist” angle, and the rest is history.
So - it would be the US who put the “muscle” in the 1953 coup, but it would seem that the real plotters were the British. Not that this absolves the US from their responsibility in the Mossadegh affair (they could have refused and the UK would likely have been unable to get it done on their own), but it just goes to show that the whole picture is more complex than a simple “the US did it”.
(This also explains why the UK is not particularly appreciated by Iran).
It might have more to do with the fact that Mossadegh performed an auto-coup, suspended the constitution, dissolved parliament, and then held a rigged referendum to give himself retroactive approval to have done this with 99.9% of the vote.
Oh, sorry, I forgot that we were pretending that Mossadegh was a “legitimate democratically elected leader” and that the US is some evil bully who overthrew him unilaterally over oil. Quick, let’s pretend we don’t know who General Fazlollah Zahedi was.
Here in the UK, an awful lot of the media has been passionately advocating for joining the war. ISTM that this is for two, reflexive, reasons:
One is that we have a pro-Israel faction here in the UK; it may not be quite as dominant as in the US, but significant chunks of the media always advocate for whatever Israel does.
The other is that our RW media and politicians have become quite tribal, and criticize the government 100% of the time no matter what. Had Starmer decided to join in the bombing, they absolutely would be criticizing him for that*.
Still, this has been one of the biggest divergences between media and public opinion that I can recall. Even viewers of GB News and Talk TV, who are used to being force-fed their opinions, are calling in to voice their disgust at the drumbeat for war.
* I know in some countries, this is normal, but in the UK it has historically been the case that opposing parties find agreement. And that right-wing tabloids sometimes support a left-wing candidate (and vice-versa). Those days are over it seems.
