Palin’s reactions/actions remind me of that one crazy neighbor in every neighborhood, the one that would rather escalate than communicate. The one that’s always in some psycho fight with somebody, anybody.
I’m a Letterman fan, I saw the jokes, I saw the clarification, I’ve seen all her remarks. I think it was a lazy throw-away joke, I believe he intended no malice, and I think they should both let it go. It was never as big of a deal as people are making it.
Admirable? That Bristol “chose” to have the baby rather than abort it? She “chose”? Yes, McCain, Palin et al. sure did go on and on celebrating her “choice” all right.
But what kind of “choice” was it? Does anyone seriously think Bristol could have gotten an abortion without her parents’ knowledge, or that they’d permit it? And what kind of blatant hypocritical crap is it to celebrate your pregnant daughter’s “choice” when you’re hellbent on taking that choice away from every freaking woman in the nation?
Admirable? Spare me, please. All that “choice” bullshit was the true hypocrisy in Bristol’s pregnancy.
The really interesting thing is that most of Gov. Palin’s supporters are dead set against giving girls like Bristol that choice.

Abstinence isn’t the bullshit part of abstinence only - the bullshit is the only part. As far as I know, all sex education classes for kids teach that abstinence is best. The good ones also teach what to do when it isn’t going to work.
Utopians are hard realists when compared to those who think kids are going to keep from having sex thanks to a promise made when 13.
Actually the joke was about A-Rod being a horn dog, and keeping young girls away from him. And yes, I have two daughters, did not teach them in an abstinence only way, and neither ever got pregnant.
So my family is better qualified on this subject than the Palins.

Yes, sex education has been a triumph in the UK since its introduction in the 60s. The more they increase it and the more the age of its introduction is lowered the more the rate of teenage pregnancies inexorably climbs.
One might be forgiven for wondering if there’s a correlation between those facts.
