I just want to say I think this incident is another signpost down the road of insanity the MAGAT’S are taking the country’s politics. Whether or not Noem pays a political price for this we now have a mainstream Republican candidate telling puppy killer stories. Officially. In books and everything, and attempting to then defend that story. And all Democrats have to do to campaign against that is post pictures of their cute doggies. That Overton window just keeps getting yanked on harder each time.

The naivete here is not realizing that in the real world 2024 none of those things are remotely as fatal to a political career as puppy murder. Yeah, you can argue they definitely should be, but that’s not the world we live in. In 2024 America there is almost nothing that politician could do, short of shooting a toddler in the head, that would be worse than that

I have to think that her being incompetent at killing the animals can’t help her, even among people who routinely kill animals.
(I have a friend who used to kill his own dogs when they were old and sick and suffering, rather than take them to the vet to do it. He gave them a nice final meal, in the back yard, where they were comfortable, and while they were eating, he put a bullet through the base of the brain at close range. Quick and painless, no fear, not too much mess, either. That’s the way you kill your animal with a gun.)
This all makes me think she’s a distraction.

As for rural thoughts on animals. I knew some farmers that would beat their animals just because they didn’t move fast enough. Some of us thought of them as “not right in the head”. I also knew farmers missing fingers because they knew better and couldn’t be bothered to follow no sissy liberal rules about turning off the corn picker before reaching in to unclog it. Not everyone was like that.

Yeah. Aside from not being in its own back yard (though it seemed comfortable enough) that’s how they killed the goat in my description above. That’s knowing how to do it.
I can understand somebody who does know how to do it deciding to kill their own dog that way, when they really did have good reason to end the dog’s life. Noem, of course, didn’t meet either of those standards.
Let’s focus on the positives here.
This incident means Trump won’t pick Noem as his running mate.
Not being picked will make Noem disappointed and unhappy.
And what does Noem have a self-admitted history of doing to things that make her disappointed and unhappy?
This could end up being a win for America.
