Once again, it’s just that the people who are the loudest about how anyone who lives an alternative lifestyle is sick/evil/perverted/coming for your children are invariably the ones waist-deep in it themselves.
It’s not the kink, it’s the hypocrisy. If it were, say, Kamala Harris’ husband, the right would be shouting that it proves the Democrats are a bunch of freaks who want “transgender for everyone” and are going to forcefem your kids in elementary school. But here it’s a Republican woman married to a closet crossdresser and openly carrying on an affair, and they want prayers and privacy.
It’s apparently not the actual queer/kinky/adulterous sex they object to, it’s the lack of hypocrisy. As long as you make an effort to lie about what you’re doing and claim that you hate all the other people who do what you do, it’s not a sin. Or something.
From what little I’ve read, the family wants “prayers and privacy,” which even if they don’t deserve it is understandable - as egregious and hypocritical as Kristi/Bryon are, they have loved ones who are presumably blameless (though who knows; maybe the children are huge promoters of right wing evil) and who will suffer as a result of the scandal.
Still, I’ll be curious to observe whether Republicans as a whole circle the wagons on behalf of the Noem family. I am guessing they’ll have little to no comment at all, and will simply leave the Noem family hanging out to dry. Trump was furious with Kristi because she wasn’t making him look good. Why would Republicans waste any time protecting her now?
Even silence is hypocritical, of course. As you say, if it were Kamala Harris’s husband, the glee and condemnation would be non-stop.
