What were you agreeing with Rick Kitchen about? I thought I had made it clear that I took issue with him saying that a diagnosis of Asperger’s means Rodgers had “no ability to relate to people”. If you weren’t agreeing with this bit, then I apologize for jumping down your throat.

As I stated in my post, Rodgers medical history hasn’t been fully released yet, except to note that he had been diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome. AND, as I further noted, Asperger’s Syndrome is now the disability-de-jour for many people, which has diluted the seriousness of the syndrome for many in the community. This has caused problems for those who fully fit all the diagnostic criteria, because Asperger’s Syndrome (in it’s most serious form) is quite disabling.

So, for some people diagnosed with Asperger’s, relating to people is no problem at all.

For others at the other end of the spectrum, people don’t really exist in their world. What I suggested, given that Rodgers had no friends IRL OR on FB, was that his diagnosis may find him at the worst end of the spectrum.

FWIW, I have been diagnosed with AS. I don’t accept the diagnosis at all in this point in my life, and I’m inclined to agree that it is often misdiagnosed in others as well. And yet the label is in my medical records, waiting to come out lest I do something stupid and crazy.

At any given moment, I can only name two people who I care and love enough to call " true friends".

And yet I think I can relate to people. Sure, I’m not going to win Miss Congeniality anytime soon. But I can relate well enough to people to make it through school and hold down a job and post on a message board. Just like Elliot Rodger was able to do.

I don’t have FB friends either. I’d hate for someone to think this means anything other than I simply don’t like FB.

Somewhere, there is a girl who maybe once considered making out with him who is feeling really, really shitty right now. On second thought: No way, I’m sure any girls that almost made out with him are realizing just how close they came to getting stalked and / or killed, as if anyone that was this much of a nutbar would have been pacified by getting laid once. Hookers wouldn’t have fixed this guy, either.

Presumably even if this guy had gotten laid at some point he still would have been a psychotic egomaniac that ended up shooting somebody when he felt disrespected for being “just” the offspring of a third-tier Hollywood type instead of James Cameron or so.

As banal as his whole life was, his manifesto is a thing of beauty. It says he was supposed to do this in April, in a much more spectacular way involving a bag of severed heads. A failure man til the bitter end.

So what are we as a society left with?

A mass killing spree that is perfectly calibrated to cause the least interesting arguments between the least interesting people in the least interesting ways. Its useful to see everybody put on their team colours, though. Because, like, predictably, this is making the rounds on the internet and people are focusing on the creepy MRA stuff instead of discussing the concerns of, you know, (probably untreated) SEVERE MENTAL ILLNESS. A whole bunch of people are today finding out about MRAs and how dangerously psychotic every single person who ever bought a dating guide suddenly is.

I asked because the point I thought you were trying to make did not seem to be in agreement with Rick Kitchen’s post, but I wasn’t sure I’d understood you properly.

Whatever the case, he displays a pretty disjointed self-perception. Just a quick glance at the “manifesto”/autobiography (more than few paragraphs are hard to endure) turns up sentences like this:
