Ah, but he’s cementing his ties to what the current Republican party considers its most reliable source of money and votes, the religious right.
A sad outcome for the party which gave us Eisenhower, Goldwater, Rockefeller, “Big Jim” Thompson, and Lincoln Chafee. All of whom would currently be (are) considered to be RINOs by the Republican Party mainstream.
Hell, Nixon would be left of the center in today’s Republicans! Supportive of the EPA, in favor of treatment for drug offenders, He introduced Federal food stamps, and also introduced a national health insurance plan, which got deep-sixed by congress.
Thanks Giraffe for the expalnation and the later link. Often in the past changes were made without explanation and it was confusing. Thanks
On Gov. Bush. hangs and shakes head slowly I, like many, am very upset about my Governors involvement in the TS matter. I, like many, voted for Mr. Bush and think that he has done an outstanding job in many, many areas. Far better than most of those who ran against him would have done, IMHO.
This, however, is not one of them. I think TS should have been allowed to die long ago, that MS should get Man-Of_the-Year for what he has done for her and put up with from her family and the media, and that the Governors office, much less the POTUS should not have become involved in matters deceided by the State Courts
That said, it is my understanding the Jeb has, on many, many occasions emphatically stated he had absolutly NO Interest in running for POTUS and will not pursue that end. I believe this to be true and doubt the POTUS agenda as a motivation as expressed here earlier.
Why then? Someone stated before that he is a shrewd Politician and knows the damage this can, and has, done to his position. If true, then I have to commend a man who sticks to what he thinks is right in spite of the damage done. I don’t agree with him on this part of his time in office, but I suspect there may be truer grounds for this decisions than the simple one’s put forth here.
Um … correct me if I’m wrong, I don’t feel like digging up the autopsy report yet again, but didn’t the ME actually touch on this and say that there was no chance of recovery? Since the ME actually got to see her brain up close and personal and didn’t base his opinion on a few minutes edited out of hours of video tape I think he could be considered the final word on that matter. Just goes to show that Jeb could have all the facts on this case from the beginning to end and still have no idea what’s going on.
I wouldn’t really care if he was just taking enough rope to hang himself but he’s putting MS through more unnecessary crap and there are enough blind followers out there who believe anything their leaders say and don’t bother to check the facts for themselves. Which was a lot of the problems with this case from the beginning.
Wil E -I agree. Jeb has stuck his nose in where it does not belong. I find that alone to be highly offensive. It has all the signs of a protracted witch hunt, unless it dies down soon.
Who here thinks that Jeb is playing this as a “conscienceless liberal media–they are spawns of Satan” type issue?
<raises hand> Me! Me!
If some clown can be punished for wasting the court’s time with arguments that Ohio wasn’t a state until 1953 and he therefore doesn’t owe any income tax, why isn’t the same principle applied to this sort of equally frivolous action on the government side?
My rabidly Republican sister became so incensed during Jeb Bush’s interference over removing the feeding tube that she sent a letter to him and all Republican Florida state representatives stating that she would never again vote for a single one of them. I don’t know if she went to the Federal level or not, but I hope she did. I wish every registered Republican in the state would do the same, but I know that is a pipe dream.
Ok, I’ve sent my email to Jeb Bush expressing my disappointment in his continuing to torment Michael Shiavo, a man who has surely suffered enough already.
