Today our dog, a cute little mongrel, aged almost 6 years, passed away due to poisoning.
Soon after I awoke around one o’clock, me and my brother noticed that something was wrong with Ajka. She was shivering and walking awkwardly. At first I thought that she had some problems with her digestion again and was sliding on her bum to scratch that itch or whatever it is that dogs do when they have problems defecating. I called my mother to phone the vet and ask him if we could bring our dog. By that time the poor little creature started drooling and emptying her bowels. I threw an old sheet on the back seat of my car and my brother carried her to the car and sat by her. Although she was in a pretty poor state, I stil held some hope that the vet would be able to help her and consequently experienced two of the longest red lights in my life. My brother was in tears trying to comfort her and encouraging her to hold on.
By the time we arrived to the vet, my mother was also there. We carried Ajka into the examination room where the vet gave her a shot and IV. After a few minutes he came out and told us that she had been poisoned and that there’s no way of rescuing her. She was still breathing but the poison prevented her from using the oxygen. He told us that he can keep her alive for few hours or put her to sleep to shorten her suffering. We agreed that she should go out peacefully, so he anesthetized her. She was foaming at the mouth and glanced at us with a sad look in her eyes for the last time (or at least I imaniged that she was still able to see us). My mother cut a piece of her hair to remember her and we stroked her for the last time.
Unfortunately this wasn’t a lonely case in our village. Someone poisoned our neighbours’ huskie three years ago and every six months or so there’s a dead cat found in our street. So whoever is doign this: fuck you, you sick son of a bitch, hurting animals which didn’t do anything to you except maybe bark at you in a high-pitched voice from a distance. She knew that she could only run free in our garden and sometimes on our neighbours’ lawn (the ones who also lost a dog), so there’s no way that she was playing in your lettuce or pissing on your beans. Fuck you, you miserable bastard, throwing chunks of poisoned food on other people’s lawns to kill their pets. What if once a kid playing outside unintentionally put a poisoned thing in his/her mouth and an investigation would ensue. You know that people would grieve over their loss but would almost never go into expenses for a positively futile police investigation. Feed the poison to someone you like and watch them dying in spasms if that’s what floats your boat. And pray that some day me or my brothers don’t learn your identity. We are law obeying citizens and are not in favour of violence but I doubt that you could endure the mental torture you would have to put up with. And in case I forgot to mention: fuck you, fuck you and fuck you. And may you live in interesting times.
I am truly sorry about your dog.
Can you get together with your neighbors (including those who’ve lost pets) and spread the word about this? Maybe with people keeping a closer eye on their animals (and stray humans) this can be prevented in the future.
Sorry you lost your dog. Are you sure the dog was poisoned on your property and not while it was off your property? And since this is Slovenia, would “Animal Control” not be beyond poisioning nuisance strays?
Dogs and cats should remain on their owner’s property. They are a threat to native wildlife, livestock, and humans (especially children). Nuisance barkers should also be put down or relocated out of respect for neighbors too.
I’ve been there too. My German Shephard went into convulsions and gasping and choking for air. It was truly horrible. We rushed her to the vet and managed to save him but he was never the same again.
I can’t understand the mentality of people who would do that to an animal.
Are there any poisonous animals in Slovenia? If you have a habitual neighborhood poisoner, it may not make a difference, but my neighbor’s dog got hold of a toad here and then went through much of the same reactions as your dog did.
Just wondered; I don’t know much about Slovenia besides political history.
I am so sorry about your dog. Several years ago, a very similar thing happened to a dog belonging to a close friend of mine. Pets become like family members, and it hurts like hell when anything happens to them.
I think you should definitely spread the word. Maybe it will save other pets from such a terrible end.
Torgo, I am so sorry about your dog. When I hear about things like this I always wish I could say something more, but I don’t know what it would be. But I’m sure, even at the last, your dog knew you cared, and took comfort from that. Again, my deepest sympathies. I’m going to go hug my cat now, I’ve got something in my eye.
Thanks for your sympathies. Yesterday, we found something on our lawn that looked like a piece of a spongecake soaked with something violet and sent it to the lab.
I’m feeling better but I still want to call her and imagine that she’ll come running.
If you ever find out who did this and decide to prosecute, I’ll do all that I can to help. Even if it’s just some research.
There is one thing I can always count on when I come into a dog related thread…Machetero will make a soulless, self riotous, utilitarian, white trash, jaded, dog hating comment. I hope one saves his life some day, even though he’s not fit to pop their anal glands…
You are the dumb bitch that let your dog wander out of your control and off your property. I hate the fact that it got shot. It’s too bad that you are too stupid to realize that it was your fault and that being an irresponsible pet owner and letting pets roam off one’s own property is wrong and bad for the community and your pet.
This lady’s dog was poisoned on her on property. Clearly a fucked up thing. Not at all related to your irreponsible behaviour that led to getting your dog shot (which is or should be a perfectly normal prerogative for people who live out in the country to do when encountering loose dogs).
I say because loose pet dogs in my lifetime have 1) attacked me, 2) killed one of our ponies, 3) ran another horse through a fence, 4) and attacked a pet dog on a leash. I’m tired of putting up with their antics and with the morons who let them run about off their property and out of their control.
Torgo, I am truly sorry for your loss. Those who kill pets deserve the same death they inflicted.
How are you so brave? Maybe I’m just high-strung, but if something like that happened to me I would install cameras, call the local news, put flyers in everyone’s mailbox, and give the neighbors a show they would never forget. I would scream, yell, cry and make sure everyone knew there was a murderer living in our neighborhood. My animals mean as much to me as others’ children do to them. God help the person who ever does anything cruel to my animals, I will GLADLY rot in prison for choking the bastard with my bare hands.
 From someone else, I would accept these excuses but you are an asswipe anyway and don’t deserve any leeway. I have seen your drive-by postings in other threads now.
