Now, this isn’t an isolated incident. I think all of us, from time to time, post a link without bothering to detail what exactly we expect the other 'dopers to get out of it, or to give our thoughts. I’m as guilty as the next person of doing this. But EVERY FUCKING LINK THIS ASS HAS POSTED IS LIKE THIS! Although, I’ve regarded you in the past as defending Bush and the Republicans as a default position, I did notice that you had described the Republicans as full of shit on the issue of the Lamont victory and terrorism, if I recall correctly. So, such a charge may not be warranted. Anymore.

Incidentally, what I’ve seen suggests that you’re not a reflexive Bush supporter, so I’d say that criticism is likely unfounded. I’ve never been able to figure out your politics - they don’t seem to conform to either major party.

Have you ever been able to figure out mine? I get painted on these boards all the time as something of a Republican/Bush apologist, even though I have never voted for anyone named Bush. I make no bones about being a Democrat, although if you want to force me into a political mold perhaps the best fit would be as someone who believes like Barry Goldwater did or maybe as a “Rockefeller Republican”. I’m curious as to how you see me, and why. I know this is a hijack, but, like I said, I’m curious. Indulge me?
And just as a tip of the hat back to the OP, “Fuck You Rjung” strikes me as an eminently logical position to hold. Has that guy EVER contributed anything of substance to a political debate? You may not have voted for Bush, but “Bush apologist” is certainly a fair enough label, as you’ve supported the misguided Iraq War with all the zeal of Condi Rice when Bush leans close to her and her panties start to get all moist. You were also quite the dick to me recently, so I’m not as inclined to overlook your servile attitude in regard to Bush’s massive Middle East fuckup as I used to be. The upside is that he’s made other people’s contributions to the recent spate of threads (people who I’m not going to name), look good in comparison.
OK, why? I think the war in Iraq was a necessary thing. I think it could turn out to be the turning point in a proactive response to Islamic terrorism, but I have real issues with how it has been pursued. I also realize that it could turn out to be one of the worst foreign policy fuck ups in the last 100 years. Time will tell the tale there. I think (hope, believe, etc…) that 20 years down the line the invasion of Iraq will prove to be the catalyst for real stability in that region. It might also be the match that ultimately winds up lighting the fuse of unparalleled destruction. I don’t know. You don’t know. I think the initial course of action was right, but I’m not so sure of the execution. Time will tell, and I’ve always taken the long view of the war. I think of in the context of decades.
That’s quite possible. I CAN be a dick on these boards. It gets me in trouble. I have the weakness of having the complete ability to separate who I am from the positions I argue here. I have a magnificent wife and two wonderful kids in my real life. I am eminently satisfied with my life. But…

It’s not that nobody is interested, it’s that it has been done over and over again, usually by me. Nobody feels like kicking at the puppy anymore because it effects no changes and has really just started to feel cruel and pointless.
Just as Der Trihs knows nothing but “America/religion sucks”, rjung has habitually posted “Bush sucks” in every possible thread, usually with some sort of smiley to attempt to indicate that he’s trying to make some sort of joke, even when the thread has nothing to do with Bush. Now that you know that there is no substance you can simply ignore it.

Are we talking rjung or gonzomax? Because while there’s no way in heck I’ll defend any of rjung’s partisan bullcrap, I’ve been pleasantly astonished to read some of his contributions in religious and artsey threads. They suggested to me that no, he most definately is not stupid. Of course, instead of this letting him off the hook, it in fact casts more ridicule on his political hyperbole.
rjung is partisan as all hell, and I used to dismiss him as just another Bush-basher, but even if he posts quite a lot of one-liners about Dubya, rjung does sometimes post something substantial. I apologized to him once for characterizing him as a mindless partisan, because even if he gets that way some of the time, he’s also quite often thoughtful and interesting. I don’t think he deserves straight-up dismissal.
