Fuck you, SiXSwordS

I’d fully support you there. Guests in the Pit are at best a waste of resources and at worst shit-flinging trolls.

At least I can go in and out of it. You seem to be stuck in asshole ankle-biting mode.

I dunno. At best they can be highly entertaining – not them, exactly, but everybody else trashing them for their lame Pitting. Some of the funniest stuff I’ve read on these boards have been insults directed at whiny, self-important newbies.

Ah! well-a-day! what evil looks
I’m Ron from old and young!
Instead of the cross, the Seagull
About his neck was hung.

Nicely done.

(Incidentally, it was ridiculous how often that quote came up back in my Scholars’ Bowl days.)

Now, if I could just get motivated enough to start a pit thread about lame pit threads.

Where could I possibly find motivation to start such a thread?

JEEZE! I’M STANDING IN IT!! YECH!

Pardon me while I go buy some new shoes.

So I guess he’s not even going to bother coming back-did he do so in his other pit thread?

Not yet, what are the odds on not ever?

About 1:1.

Well, he only has two days left on his guest membership. I guess we won’t have to worry about him much longer.

Yes,yes, and yes! I’m a newb. though a member yet I still wouldn’t pit anyone (another member) for at least a year or so. Probably never because I have enough other crap to get annoyed over

This pitting was just plain stoooopid.

Asshole!

(now I bite your ankle)

Go away before I taunt you a second time!

I have obviously had some time to think about this, so file these comments under Esprit de l’escalier and forgive me if I am preaching to the choir.

First, I’d like to thank Swampwolf, Q.E.D and Enginerd, among others, for succinctly stating my case in my absence; I would have preferred a more vapid, essay style, but I’ll take what I can get.

I should also say that I agree with he-who-knows-not-own-his-name and if his comments had appeared in the original thread they might actually have been helpful.

The analogy with buying a car has already been drawn, so let me use that. If I was to go buy a car, I would take the car to a mechanic to have it checked out. I might bring a friend who knows a lot about cars or a family member who knows a lot about salesmen to the car lot with me. There’s no guarantee that I would get a good deal, but it’s a heuristic approach and I’d have a better chance of making a good decision than if I went alone.

When I started the guitar thread, I had a similar motivation. Maybe some Doper makes their living buying and selling musical instruments online and spends their free time on the boards.

I was hoping I would get responses like picker’s and Athena’s. I did not expect responses like Omegaman’s, but I have to agree with him.

I’ve let myself be put off music stores by the scenes where I go in and ask for a certain set of strings and some cross-eyed, mulleted alcoholic with yellow fingernails and a Newport hanging out of his mouth says: “You don’t want those heavy strings. You want these extra slinky strings. Jes’ like Jim Page.” Er, no, I want the strings I asked for but, now that you mention it, they are cheaper online, so, buh-bye now."

So, I have taken he-who-knows-not-his-own-name’s condemnation to heart, there’s just one thing.

It’s ironic that the OP belittles and curses me by wishing that I should find myself walking out of a guitar store with a beautiful brand name logo carrying a third rate guitar and leaving behind a sniggering, pimply salesboy chuckling to his co-workers that he finally unloaded that warped two-by-four that had been disgracing their wall for the past two and a half years.

What inspired the OP?

The fact that I snubbed him when he suggested that I buy, sight unseen, a guitar based on no more information than the brand name…

You’re pitting him because he said “no”? If he doesn’t share your taste in instruments, IMHO that’s an awfully strange reason to pit him. :dubious:

Jesus, may the OP was right? Get over yourself, lampshade.
