It was ONE ciggy butt. I’m a terrible person for it and I’ve learned my stinkin’ lesson. Btw, I didn’t smoke it in the car with my kid. I stood outside and smoked because I was feeling crazy stressed. I was having a shitty day, oboyoboy how shitty it was, and I didn’t need any commentary about anything from anyone. Maybe another day I could have ignored her, but not yesterday.
Hijack of my own thread: Preface to the story, I pick my sweet wittle girl up from her dad’s (who rarely gets her) and lo and behold he’s gotten her hair cut completely off. It’s two inches long all over. She looks like a boy!! I was taking her to Target to buy some summer clothes, which I cannot afford and see if I could find some barrettes or clips or something to spruce up the hairstyle. She was in a bratty mood due to having spent the entire weekend at dad’s and was being a head case. She’s mentally retarded and screams and hits herself when she gets mad. After 10 minutes in the car listening to screaming and fit throwing, I parked at Target and got out to smoke my ciggy. I maybe smoke 5 cigs a week, so it’s not like I’m suffocating an innocent child with my toxins. So basically, the anger towards the woman was anger about everything in my life. She just happened to catch it. So, fack it. I’ll think twice about ranting on here, because damn, you guys are rough./hijack
I think people should be allowed to explain to the OP why she was in the wrong without being accused of potentially accusing her of being a Nazi. Besides, it makes no sense. It would be the SUV driver that would be the Nazi, in this case, no?
You know what, if my ex-husband had taken it upon himself to get our daughter’s hair cut to two inches short all around, any person who crossed me (correct or not) would have gotten an earful, too! Well, maybe not an earful, but a very dirty look.
I have no problems, Green Bean, with people explaining to the OP why she was wrong, it just struck me that there were a lot of conclusions being drawn from not much evidence and that maybe everybody’s venom glands had gotten a little backed up over the weekend.
We seem to have returned to a more even keel at the moment, though.
You know, I am getting a little tired of demonizing smokers. While it is true that it is a gross habit etc. I really think that in a lot of ways the militant anti-smokers sort of have themselves to blame for their unhappiness.
Pretty much, a smoker is vilified no matter how they engage in this legal vice. Go to a bar to do it and they try to make that illegal, go outside to do it and you will usually have some offended person making coughing sounds at you and someone else bitching about how you smell when you come inside (hint: you would not smell as bad if you did not have used filters in your pockets because you were not littering, which you would not have to worry about if there were ashtrays outside or at least a logical receptacle), smoke inside your own car or home and you are abusing your child (if you have one). Bla bla bla.
And really, the deal is that many folks have decided to class smokes as second-class citizens that need not be offered the same common courtesy as others. Think about it; if I were to start complaining out loud to people that wear too much perfume, or have body odor (or make dramatic coughing noises near them) I would be considered extremely rude.
In the end, I think that it is pretty much poor class to comment on the behavior of strangers in public. Period. Unless you see someone endangering a life of a child or some similar big-deal event then you pretty much need to let it go. Life is stressful enough day to day without having random freaks commenting on your behavior.
I have no issue with you screwing or stubbing out your cigarette on the pavement, if you then pick up the butt and dipose of it properly. Otherwise I find your behaviour disgusting.
I have no issue with you smoking in legal places, or outdoors as long as I’m not downwind, as long as you take the toxic, non-biodegradable crappy remnants of your habit with you.
You know, I wonder how much of a hooplah some of the on-pilers in this thread would have made had the OP not mentioned that the “stupid bitch” had a fat ass. And it’s also interesting that no one actually told the OP they were offended at the mention of the fatass’s fat ass, they just got mad at other things.
I’m with BianaryDome on the demonization of smokers thing. Yes, she was wrong for littering, but come on people, don’t you think you’re being just a wee bit harsh? I can’t help but wonder if she would’ve recieved the same amount of foaming at the mouth responses if she had dropped a gum wrapper or piece of gum or such. Many of you seem to be oddly drawn to the fact that it was a cigarette butt vs. some other small form of litter. Just some food for thought…
Well Tax, since that argument has been done over and over and over and over and anyone with the sense of a fucking lima bean knows better then to use “fat” as an insult, I guess it just seemed pointless.
But see, my point is not that people who toss their butts on the ground are not pigs (I hope that I made that clear). My point is that I fail to understand why complete strangers feel comfortable making editorial comment on a small transgression like this, but never would dream of doing so for similar offences that did not involve a tobacco product.
Oh, puhleeeeze, Binarydrone! It’s not smokers we’re demonizing, it’s people who litter and who have not a single ounce of consideration for the environment. I wouldn’t care who the person was, if I saw them littering like that, I would be angry.

Well speaking for myself, I would have felt the same way regardless of whether she mentioned the woman’s ass or not. Littering is littering. But IndyGrrl’s bitchiness just made me dislike her attitude even more.
People who litter with cigarette butts DRIVE ME INSANE! What makes it worse is that most of them seem not to even realize that it’s littering. They might not throw conventional trash on the ground, but don’t think twice when throwing a cigarette out the wondow.
Here’s this for a solution:
I really think these people should be cited for littering by the police, and the penalty should be community service sweeping/shovelling cigarette butts off the side of the road, in parking lots, and in parks and other public places. I think only then would they truly think twice about their actions!!!
Lezlers, it isn’t just the cigarette butt, it is all of her actions combined. The name calling, the “fucking bitch” screeching in front of her kid, the impression that this woman is soooooooooooo much worse because she drives an SUV. The cigarette butt is just a small factor in the equation.
I’m with birdgirl here. The OP’s behavior was rude and her rant out of line regardless of the comment about the other woman’s weight. That was just icing on the cake, as it were.
