Fuckin SDMB almost cost me my job today..

Damn, Uke, stay away from that goat!

: deep cleansing breath :

Phlip, try and listen to what we’re saying. You stating that the SDMB almost got you fired doesn’t make any sense. You almost got yourself fired. Does our employer feel that ogling Britney Spears photos is relevant to your job? If not, you were still in the wrong here.

Having the warning post go up after only three minutes is about the fastest a reasonable person could ever expect. I would ask again- did you immediately (or ever) email a moderator about the porn pop-ups? If you didn’t, then you don’t get to bitch, because at that moment, you became part of the problem.

The stone-throwing began with you- we just told you you were wrong. Then you freaked. And we had fun with it. Our bad.

The SDMB is not a sentient bieng, and it is incapable of taking action against you or your job. Deal with it (or don’t) and move on.

PS- missed me again!

Actually, I would have gone off on him whether or not I was in line behind a mod’s ass. This is the Pit, and if I hear something stupid, I don’t have to wait for permission to address it.

:Deb is grateful that this post is typo-free, unlike her last one (2 and counting):

And something tells me that if you’re in danger of being FIRED for one accidental pop up porn incident you either

a) work for a pentacostal church

or

b) aren’t telling us the whole story.

So before we start crying our eyes out over your unemployment, why don’t you tell us how many OTHER porn violations you have in your job history?

thanks so much.

jarbaby the twit

Porn Violations would be a decent band name.

How do you know that Uncle Beer’s ass is shiny and white?

And since when does anyone need to hide behind a moderator in the Pit? Although you have a point when you said that UB started the personal attacks.

Phlip, I honestly hope you don’t get fired; that would really suck for such an insignificant infraction.

Now ya just gotta work on that smilie thing…

Aaaauuuuuugggggghhhhhh!

You know, there are things you can do to avoid that postile dysfunction problem later on in life.

Complete and utter bullshit, phlip. Your fucking THREAD TITLE throws stones: “The SDMB almost cost me my job; ergo, it did something bad.” You blame the SDMB for your CHOICE of clicking a link.

Which was inaccurate, you warthog-faced buffoon. You clicked on the link; it didn’t pop up magically when you got to the SDMB.

Considering you have maybe five posts in here addressing Beer, I’d say that’s an indication of your overall brainpower.

Or lack thereof. Whatever works.

This is the best part of your post.

This is not a good thing.

Phlip, let me get this straight: You almost got fired because, while visiting a website completely unrelated to your JOB, you inadvertently clicked on a girly site?

And then, you blame UncleBeer for (Oh!The irony!) NOT DOING HIS JOB?

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

dammit Demise I was gonna ask for a “cite” on that “moderator’s shiny white ass” remark.
Meanwhile, what have we learned here?

  1. Surfing from work can be hazordous to your wallet.

  2. Moderators do actually sleep from time to time.

  3. If you find a bad link in a thread, posting a warning is only one option, you should also email all mods from that forum alerting them to the problem asap.

Phlip:

Don’t listen to them. They’re all crazy. You are the only sane one. Everybody is hateful and mean because they are jealous of your shining intellect.

The mods are all in this together. You think it’s just coincidence that that porn link was there for you to click on? You know better than that.

They all want to get you fired. They’re all mean and small-minded. Nobody appreciates your genius. They are all making fun of you to keep you down and grind you under their boots.

Everybody is out to get you.

Did you know that when Unclebeer said he had to go into a meeting he was really schtupping your old lady?

Are you going to stand for this? Are you going to let them do this? Don’t let them! Don’t listen to their supposed reason. Strike back at one and all.

I for one applaud your noble efforts.

Which certainly explains how this thread got here, eh Philip?

Fuck, fu, fffff, … no, I can’t. Fuck it.

Ban Phlip?

Nah. You’ll never do it. You’re all talk.

This is what my mom used to call “egging someone on.”

I am sorely tempted to beat the Christmas rush and start a Pit thread entitled “Phlip Shouldn’t Have Been Banned,” but I know that it would infuriate Euty (even though I’m sure he would get the joke), so I abstain.

Phlip, bye-bye.

Unca’ Beer, did I kiss your shiny white ass sufficiently well? I’m working on my technique, and constructive criticism from Your Holiness is greatly appreciated.

Sua

It was ours. The SDMB community. Specifically, every Member who clicked the link, saw it was inappropriate, and then did not mail a Moderator or Administrator to warn them and give them a heads-up.

We all have a responsibility to help the Moderators and Administrators out. Anyone that saw that porn was not the standard “two clicks away” should have mailed someone. The response time to mails to Mods and Admins is often very fast, and this would have been taken care of in minutes, instead of hours.

Just my thoughts.

I’m still waiting on a cite that proves UncleBeer’s ass is shiny and white! Until then, this is sheer supposition.

Besides, his ass is shiny and red, like a baboon.

[sub]Don’t kill me, please.[/sub]

Isn’t this around the time when we compare Uncle Beer to a Nazi?

Am I missing something, or is someone [cough Phlip] not telling us the whole story in his attempt to avoid the discomfort of having to take responsibility for his own actions? Putting myself in the same situation: I march into my bosses office, tell him it was a misdirected link, and insist that the matter be dropped without further action being taken. I’m a bit more than 99% sure that he would concur. For someone to be in a position to loose their job over this, I humbly submit that there must be some history of internet abuse or another transgression on record.

It’s my fault. I didn’t see the link or the thread, so it took 7 hours for a moderator to find and delete it. Oh, I could make excuses. “I was looking at other threads”, or “I was sleeping”, or “I was talking on the phone with my parents”, or some other excuse, but I know in my heart there’s no excuse for my actions. I almost got you fired, Phlip! I let down the board, I let down UncleBeer, I let down Euty, and I let down Cecil! This board was a place of knowledge, but because of my laziness, I have turned it into a place of perversion and sin! How can I ever be forgiven?!

Phlip, I think what’s pissing everyone off is your refusal to take responsibility for your own actions here, and instead blaming the situation on everyone but yourself.

Yeah, it stinks that it happened. But YOU chose to be reading SDMB at work. YOU chose to open a link. YOUR EMPLOYER chose to implement a piece of crap surf monitor, and put in place draconian rules based upon what a piece of software says rather than allowing a human being to refute its testimony. YOU chose to stay employed with such people who would make such unreasonable rules anyway.

Now, for the folks piling on you: I think it’s ridiculous for all of you who said “Yeah, you were an idiot to have opened the link, when it clearly said IN LATER POSTS that it was linked to a porn site.” C’mon — who reads through a whole thread before clicking onto a link?

And Zaphod has apologized profusely, several times. What do you want, to have him come perform seppuku in front of your bosses to save your honor?

The lessons we should learn from this?

(1) If your bosses have such strict surfing rules, you probably shouldn’t be surfing at work anyway.

(2) Don’t post a link until you’ve closed the other window first, to see what other little gifts it might send your way.

(3) If you do accidentally post something that could get a fellow SDMB’er in trouble like that, don’t just post a warning later in the thread — e-mail SEVERAL mods/admins about the need for emergency action in deleting the link, quickly.

Euty’s the one who closed the thread.

But I noticed that you used the plural form of the verb “to be…”
