Then we can periodically compare the populations of rednecks versus wolves.
Some folks say that.
Some other folks say it’s about supporting states’ rights in the face of perceived federal government overreach.
The link Happy Lendervedder posted shows a pic of the stars & bars with an assault riffle sillhouette and the phrase “COME AND TAKE IT,” suggesting that the flag has been coopted even further (by at least one person) as a symbol in support of individual rights in the face of any perceived government overreach.
All of which disregards the flag’s origin (and continued meaning for a very large number of people): a symbol expressing support of states “rights” to enslave black people.
The town of Howell is a few miles down the road from Lansing. Howell has some KKK history, with racist elements persisting there even into very recent years. According to Wikipedia, 0.4% of the town’s population is black. Given the de facto racial segregation of the region (probably due mostly to white flight from Detroit after the race riots and economic decline), it wouldn’t surprise me to find a lot of racist folks in the towns just outside of the Detroit metro area (like Howell).
But how would you transport a redneck, a wolf, and a can of Bud in a rowboat?
Bravo. ![]()
I can’t believe how childish some of my countrymen are. The USA is so fucked.
Wow, quite a photo. I could see that becoming as iconic for our era as, say, the napalmed-children was for the Vietnam War.
They’re not protesters - I refuse to refer to them in that way and anyone who uses that term to refer to these pigs is a sucker.
This is uncivil disobedience. It’s an attempt to interfere with legitimate government action during a time of emergency. If Ron DeSantis issued a mandatory evacuation in advance of a Hurricane, you wouldn’t see these fuckers charging up to Tallahassee with AR-15s.
They’re right wing political thugs, not that much different than Putin’s Night Wolves, frankly.
They’ve even perfected their rendition of the Trump-mouth.
How about Canadians? Seriously, there’s a bubba not too far from here with a Confederate flag painted on the side of his house. No, he’s not a displaced Southern American. Yes, he is a complete racist fucknugget.
Is the blonde zombie one of the women from that Trump rally photo? I’m thinking bottom left.
A political “blonde joke”.
There it is. This isn’t civil. Some people didn’t like the MLK demonstrations back in the day, but those guys weren’t tossing hand grenades left and right as they marched, which is basically what these MI rednecks are doing.
…no different from hillbillies in the Ozarks, Utah, or Idaho who raise Nazi flags. Kinda far removed, both in terms of time and space, from 1930s Germany, but the spirit lives on.
“…the way politics WORKS.”
That is all.
I’d take the can of Bud, throw it out of the boat halfway across the river, then proceed to the far side, and continue my journey.
It’s a deeply cultural thing for Michiganders, and otherwise we forget history. Or, they were huge fans of the Dukes of Hazzard.
Or, maybe they’re just racists and/or traitors. Which could it be…
ETA: Somehow, I missed the second page of this thread, with all the same responses that I had. Oh well, I’ll leave it.
The Senators and Congresspersons don’t set state policy (Neither does the president in case he’s reading this) and the majority of both houses of the state legislature are Republican. (And rather handily so, at least until the state’s new anti-gerrymandering provision takes full effect.)
[sub]Psst…[/sub]
They remind me more of those creepy-ass, open-mouthed caroling dolls/figures that littered department store gift departments in the '90s.
