“This sign probably won’t change your mind”
I masturbate and I vote (but not usually at the same time)
I know practically nothing about this rally…I assume people were told/encouraged to come bearing witty signs?
Written on an index card and taped to a straw:
“Big signs are for bullies.”
“I am not a witch” held by a person dressed as a witch.
“I masturbate to Christine O’Donnell”
I firmly believe there were dopers amongst the crowd.
Bacon?
Firefly?
FSM?
Don’t feed the trolls?
Hmmm…
Anyway, I’m proud of you folks in the USA. That is one very impressive display of normalcy. Congratulations and keep it up.
Do a Barrel Roll.
“Obama = Keynesian?”
The guy holding it got lots of “He was born in Hawaii, OK?!!” responses.
I don’t think so, no. It’s just that Jon Stewart is a smart-ass, Colbert is a bigger smart-ass (and a big time nerd :)), the rally as a whole was only half-serious and the Daily Show appeals mostly to college kids and internet dwellers, two segments of the population that are not entirely unknown for their snark & derision ![]()
I actually believe it was meant more serious than they made it out to be. Sure, they’re comedy people, but their shows are highly political, and I think they wanted to give the non-nutbags a chance to speak out.
The rally was supposed to be sane, so their signs would not read “Death to Glenn Beck” or similar.
BTW, from this thread, I really loved “Hitler is a Nazi”.
Unfortunately I think the proportion of signs which were only jokes ended up being too high. I saw a TV news item last night which portrayed the rally as basically Dada; such signs were the goofy centerpiece of a wholly inexplicable event.
The best ones were funny and trenchant, like the best Daily Shows.
WWOPD.
What Would Optimus Prime Do?
“Porta potty #8 is clogged!”
“Federal Death Panel Agent #OT4UXX62” (tag on a lady in scrubs).
“Hey, y’all, switch to herbal and chill the f*ck out”
“Am I too late for the Glen Beck rally?”
So was someone there selling poster board and markers to people who didn’t come prepared? I mean, the Porta-Potty one seems like a spur of the moment sign!
I saw someone with a sign that said: “Fighting Ignorance: It’s Taking Longer Than We Thought”. It was in front of the National Gallery of Art at about 3:30. Was that one of us?
That person actually had a Post-It on their sign with “#8” on the Post-It. So they came prepared with a dynamic sign!
My favorite by far.
