If you’ve ever read/watched North and South you’ll remember the one family name was Hazard. This was great fun as two of their sons joined the military. One was Major Hazard and the other General Hazard.
An old copy of “The Kid’s Almanac” mentions a college(?) basketball player who played for the owls. His last name was Mlkvy, so they called him the owl without a vowel.
And finally, the Hofackers are buried in a graveyard near me, and at least one living member practices medicine.
There used to be a girl at my high school named Shirley Temple. (No, not the Shirley Temple, I’m much too young to go to school with her.) Nobody teased her about it AFAIK, but we all had a good snicker every time we looked in the yearbook. (Our parents did too, of course.)
When I was in college there were posters in the women’s toilets advising students to report sexual harassment if it was becoming a problem for them. The member of staff who they were asked to report these cases to was called Dr. William Clayton Love. I always thought there was something kind of funny about reporting sexual harassment cases to someone called Dr. Love
I’ve always thought the surname ‘Savage’ was funny too. My friend’s godmother was called Mrs. Savage and when her family were visiting them my friend used to say ‘they were going over to the Savages’. It used to make me laugh - I was a simple child in many ways…
i have known two guys called Mervyn one was in the S.A.S the other was a seriously high Dan karate expert ,cant help thinking of the record "A boy named Sue"!
