Funny movie reviews

Sometimes critics write a review that’s better than the movie they’re reviewing. Ebert does this a bit.

Anyway, let’s share, shall we?

I’ll go first.

The Joe Bob Report!

You can always depend on Jabootu’s Bad Movie Dimension. Their review of Battlefield Earth is infinitely better than the movie (but then, so it watching ice melt).

Mr. Cranky

Stomp Tokyo

bfatt & lazy. Don’t go if you’re offended by anything sex-related (and I do mean anything).

[Eve thinks back sadly to the 1990s, when she had a funny movie-review column in Movieline, before that magazine was taken over by Evil Chimps . . .]

Leonard Maltin’s complete review of Isn’t it Romantic?:

Is there a way to get to the Maltin summaries that I don’t know about?

The Mutant Reviewers from Hell always seem to have a good time. Unless they’re reviewing “Doom Generation.”

Maltin’s reviews appear in his annual TV Movies and Video Guide, though this particular entry was also mentioned in Guinness as the shortest movie review. I don’t know of an online source.

James Agee beat Maltin by 40+ years with this 4-word review to the film You Were Meant for Me:

“That’s What You Think”

I thought this was about CAP Alert, the church guy that reviews movies. I don’t understand why he just doesn’t come right out and say “Every single movie ever is evil and full of sin and hateful to God except ‘The Ten Commandments’.”

It took some hunting, but I found my favorite movie review quote of all time from Creative Loafing. In reference to, Practical Magic starring Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock:

Is that what happened to Movieline? That used to be such a fun magazine. Damn Chimps.

Roger Ebert once said that the more the reviewer hated the movie, the funnier the review is to read. I think he’s right.

Pretty much anything written by this guy.

Yes. I agree. Filthy ROCKS!

(Pssst. If you hated You’ve got mail as much as I do, you NEED to read Filthys review of it)

The Self Made Critic from The Brunching Shuttlecocks is often quite funny.

I cannot recommend Bad Movie Night enough.

And I’m not saying that just because of the reviews of my own that are on there (which every one of you should rush right out and read right now).
