Very good return! King Richard’s taking the hero sword out of the stone was an interesting twist - guess he’s not just going to be the comic relief forever then. Some funny songs - I especially liked the ‘well that one great kiss may not have been all that good after all’ - followed by the Chef getting mad because she never gave him the fucking amulet after falling asleep at the end of the song - HA!
They made a couple of references to Game of Thrones - the chef and his wife talking about keeping their first daughter and only putting out the rest for the White Walkers. And a mention in the opening song about Winter is Coming. And Came and Went.
Richard called his magic sword “Mister Stabby” - a Buffy the Vampire Slayer reference.
I did think ABC chickened out by having the singer at the gay bar be a woman, even if it was Kylie Minogue.
I was pretty sure that “World’s Best Kiss” was a musical reference to Aladdin’s “A Whole New World.” Then I discovered not just Alan Menken, but Scott Weinger (who played Disney’s Aladdin) were writers on the show, and now I’m sure I’m right.
Scott Weinger is also Candace Cameron’s boyfriend on “Full House” and it’s my understanding that he will be appearing on “Fuller House”, too, whenever that airs.
I liked that Richard is less of a buffoon in this round, altho not by much. I’m loving the music. So we’ll see how the rest of the season goes…
Excellent start to season 2! Loved the intro.
The disco scene sorta fell flat on me, but I enjoyed everything else.
Wasn’t the first idea “Gorn Breaker”?
And I laughed at ‘Dogs Jousting’.
I looked away too long – what did it say on the stone he pulled the sword from?
Pretty much what the legend said about Excalibur.
And not about watery tarts…
Twas a stump - not a stone.
“Hero sword - to be drawn by the one true king”
Oh, excellent!
perhaps you do belong here…
Wow, so no love for the second week?
I liked Matt Lucas as a peasant explaining who gets to vote.
I watched the first three episodes on Hulu last night - somehow I had missed that the series had returned. I loved it last year (though it was uneven in quality). This year is off to a great start. After the song about the village’s system of democracy I had to go back and watch it again. So well done. And “I don’t know… a free people voting to die in a foreign war for the benefit of just a few? That would be madness! [looks at camera]” Hee.
King RIchard’s search for meaning, Queen’s meandering on feelings - great stuff.
The gift of earrings was priceless.
Okay, I’m confused. If Richard’s castle has been dismantled, where are Gareth and Madalena living? I realize that the point of the show is not an air-tight plot, but still.
Also, I’m kind of confused about who is from Valencia and who is from Hortensia, but I can probably live with that.
Did they rebuild the castle elsewhere? Relocated?
It was turned into a town for the peasants, and their fledgling democracy.
Gareth and Madelana are living in Valencia - the kingdom Richard and Madalena invaded in Season 1 for the ‘Jewel of Valencia’ that Madalena wanted.
Hortensia is the Kingdom that belongs to Isabella’s cousin - known for its overly extravagant changing of the gaurd cermeonies. - This is currently where Isabella, The Jester and the King/Queen of Valencia are hiding out - Chef and his love have presently left for less.
King Richard’s… sorry ‘Buddy’s" - original castle was dismantled by the peasants - sorry "free people of the land’ - in order to build homes, shops and a very nicely decorated rec center.
That makes sense, thanks. I had missed the point that “the caste” from season one wasn’t originally Richard’s.
