I made it about 93 seconds in before I stopped the DVR, shouted out to an empty house “yegads!” and deleted it from my DVR.
This, a thousand times this. I wanted to tear my ears out by the end of the show!
Nice beard.
Thanks!
No, I meant her.
Classic.
I decided to watch it just for Timothy Omundson, and it turned out I enjoyed it a lot. Laughed out loud more than once. Such silliness. Such good looking people. Great costumes and sets. Songs even stuck in my head. And, oh, watching it online, you don’t have the horrible ads.
LOL!
Reminds me of King Richard trying to figure out if the “orange, orange, banana” joke really WAS funny and was going over his head ;). Though in this case, the show actually is funny and we aren’t all sleeping with the jester (at least I hope not…)
I was pleasantly surprised to see that the costumes weren’t utterly horrible. It turns out that the show’s producers are old Rennies.
The joust was a hoot. [Lances tap lightly] Ow… Ow…
The only thing they could have added to that would be breakaway lances exploding.
You’re not alone. Our whole family thought it looked funny. After the 2nd commercial break we shut it off because we found it so terrible.
It really doesn’t get going until the 2nd episode - really - the first is all set up - it even sang so much at the end of it “and thus is our plot”.
Loved it. Can’t wait for more
which is when? Next Sunday?
Last Sunday. The fact that it showed up in the guides as a one-hour show was misleading–it was actually two episodes of a half-hour show.
Which, I think, was at least part of the problem, what seemed like constant re-exposistion. It seemed like the princess had to remind everyone that she’s secretly working for the king every five minutes.
I mean if, later on, she’s tied up/gagged and it turns out that she has a medical condition where she has to constantly sing her motives or she forgets them, I’ll retract my criticism and call it brilliant. But until then it’s just kind of annoying.
I think because I like musicals in general, I enjoyed very much the moment where she sang about working for the king in an aside - an accepted musical theatre trope - but Galavant heard her and reacted.
I liked it a lot more than I thought I would. Clever songs, good jokes, hot girls. I’ll keep watching until I don’t like it.
So it’s now only the second prime time show I’m watching; the other is Forever.
I was prepared for it to be bad, and it wasn’t. Not the funniest thing ever but I laughed a couple of times, I thought most of the songs were fairly clever or had clever bits, and it was great to see John Stamos in plate armor and a silly English accent.
We watched it on Hulu so there were a few commercials but apparently they weren’t as bad as the broadcast ads.
If you want to catch all the lyrics, here are links.
I’m watching the pilot right now and love it. I don’t know if they can keep it up, but it is hilarious right now. I love the king.
I didn’t like it. The wife walked in and asked “is this an update to the Holy Grail movie?” My answer was “they wish!” If the best they can do in their commercials are the celebrity of the week cameos, what are they trying to hide? It was pretty to look at, but kind of the “uncanny valley” of not being quite silly enough or serious enough to be great.
I’ll give it another week.
I thought it was fun and I want to see it again because I know I missed parts of dialogue. I loved the songs and the silliness, but I could have done without the idiotic singing commercials.
Too bad–the theme song is a bit too camp, IMO; I wasn’t sure the show was going to work until it was done and the show proper got going.
It’s not the greatest thing ever, but it’s good fun. [del]Lassiter[/del] Tim Omundsen steals the show, and his right hand thug (whom I am sure I recognize from some Guy Ritchie movie) is quite good as well. Looking forward to the rest of the show.
His right hand thug was one of Moriarty’s henchman in Elementary - his dancing in “She’ll be Mine” sent me to the floor.
