Most American males do not enjoy cooking unless there is physical danger involved.
While I appreciate this factor as much as the next fellow, I also understand the fact (perhaps seen on the SDMB) that Hollandaise can smell fear.
Howdy Y’all! Home from Luterun deheathenization. I have the poke roast in the slow cooker and a chawklit cake in the oven. Later on in the afternoon I shall bake sweet n.o.t, cornbread and heat up the collard greens, which I cooked last night. I like to cook 'em the night before and then slowly heat 'em up for eatage. Collards are better that way.
Soon as the cake is done, I shall let it cool upon a rack while I achieve nappage.
ruble knowin’ it might kill you while cookin’ it makes the meat taste so much better.
Front yard is more or less done. The mulcher seemed to be burning oil when I quit. I hope no damage was done. **FCD **can have a look at it when he gets home.
As for me, I’m done laboring for the day. Time for Netflix and crocheting.
Wrote this 30 minutes ago and forgot to post:
Deheathenized with our nondenominational church, where the Laity Sunday topic was “love”. Beverly, the deacon who did the sermon, called it “All You Need is Love”. Last hymn was “They’ll Know We Are Christians”, which I sang as a solo last month for Communion Sunday, while they were passing out the elements.
ekemom and I are at Mickey D’s in the big city, where there are no electric outlets to be found and the maximum interblag speed is 45 kbps. Joy and mirth, and joy again. We’re only a block or two from the Karaoke place, where much singing will be had from, at least, 4-7. Fortunately, they don’t permit smoking on Sundays. Unfortunately, they permit smoking on every other day, so ekemom, who has COPD, is wavering on whether to go there early or not, fearing a smoky building.
Up-to-date:
The slow-as-molasses internet speed at Mickey D’s encouraged us to go to the big city’s central library a few miles away so that ekemom can get the Sunday service up. I have caffeinated with some Mickey D’s sweet tea. Is that available everywhere, or just in the South?
Chillin’ on the top floor of the library with mah laptop. Debating on whether I should bother RPing (since I’d only have about an hour) or should I just stick to reading. I made up a list of 10 or so songs I’d like to sing at karaoke; from what I hear, in three hours I may be lucky enough to do 2. Busy place. I’ll let y’all know which ones I picked, when it’s over.
Mom, burning oil isn’t a problem as long as you still have oil in it.
Nice weather, opened up the house and have been cleaning up. Helped carry an easy chair into my friend’s house so he can try to get some sleep on it. He came home last week and has been doing pretty well.
Nothing much new here.
**Tugig **- I pulled out the dipstick and there was oil, tho it was quite thin. Hot, I’m sure. Before I use it again, I’ll check to see if it needs to be filled. But it was a good excuse to quit. OK, I was done anyway…
Taking a break from Netflix. Trying to decide if I want to make supper or go get something. I should probably cook here. Guess I’ll pop the sweet N.O.T. into the toaster oven and get back to the couch. A tuna steak might taste nice.
I’ve been playing in Photoshop all day, prepping ads and stuff for my chorus’ show’s playbill. Envy me.
I talked to OYKW just now. He should be here in about an hour. YAY! Sweet N.O.T. are bakin’ and when they’re done the cornbread shall go into the oven. Poke roast smells so nummilicious! Greens are on the stove (well in a pot on the stove cause puttin’ ‘em right on the stove would be ick) and will be re-heated in a bit. Cake is all frosted (iced?) with chawklit frostin’ (icin’?). We need another term for smearin’ yummy, sticky stuff on a cake. Mysterious thing about this cake. There is a corner missin’. I don’t know how that happened! <insert angelic smiley here>
Also, steaks are marinatin’ and beer is chillin’ for tomorrow night.
Flipper - McD’s does the sweet tea everywhere in the US as far as I know.
Day 2 post surgery I slept until 12:15! I didn’t have the weird itches going on last night, so I slept. Very nice. Oddly I still feel tired. Weird how that works.
Not much planned for today. Maybe a roast chikkie for din-din. Other than that, should be quiet.
Oh yeah, rain overnight. Yay rain! nice weather today.
Happy Sunday all.
My Sunday started at 7:30 when I commenced to get ready for irk then had to check my calendar to discover it was Sunday. So I walked Lucky Louie and went back to bed. I have read two books this weekend. So laziness and reading. I did cook a roasted chicken, tater salad and some green beans. Was good. I cleaned the kitchen and now am about to change the sheets, shower and ready my irk clothes for tomorrow.
Rosies sig to all
“Hey You” by Pink Floyd, “I Have Nothing” by Whitney Houston, and “Maneater” by Hall & Oates were butchered-- I mean, sung-- by me at karaoke tonight. The rest of our party arrived about halfway through “Hey You”.
I’m actually a very good singer, but for some reason when I hear my own voice played back to me, I don’t like it. Any other Mumpers feel the same way about their own voices?
ekemom and I are now leaving the big city and returning to our small town. The biggest difference? THE TRAFFIC! ekemom never wants to live in the big city ever again, because there are just so many cars on the road!
I designed 19 ads today. Tomorrow I get to place them in the blank pages of the playbill. Envy me.
OYKW arrived, we ingested a wunnerful dindin if’n I do say so myself, and the kitchen got cleaned. He is now preparin’ to soak in the whirlpool tub. He’s tahrd and achy, poor thing. Oh well, he’ll be all clean for further use this evenin’.
flipper whereabouts in the south are you? I’m in south Jawja. I don’t like to hear myself sing but others have told me I have a good singin’ voice. I just figure they’re all tone deaf.
sunny yay for sleepin’ well last night and feelin’ better today.
The lamb went well and made a good snack while everything else was cooking. A little disappointed in the ribs though. Nice texture but this cut had a layer of gristle that was worse than bones.
flipper, I don’t like the sound of my voice through a crappy sound system, which is what you get a lot of times at karaoke. I’ve been spoiled by pros though.
I hate my mouse!! I just wrote up a post, but when I went to post it, I hit one of the stoopit buttons on the side and went back one page. Dammit! I need a basic wireless mouse. This one sucks.
Supper was good, but I didn’t defrost the tuna soon enough, so it was cool inside. Still, yum, so there’s that.
I miss my sweetie - it’s too quiet here. Shortly, I will hop in the shower, plus I need to pack lunch for tomorrow. We’ll see how much sleep I get.
Time to log off. MWAH!!
swampbear (I don’t know your Mumper nickname), I live in Virginia.
Weird new of the day: my hubby is self employed in the A/C business. About four years ago he installed a new system for a customer. He knows her entire family, all customers. The other day he received a note with a check for $200. The note read::
Dear___, the Lord has called on me to send you this Love Offering. I don’t understand why but I am sure God does and I cannot ignore his will. Please accept this and be blessed.
In the memo field is Love Offering. He wants to send it back to her. I told him he should put it in the bank and when/if she ever calls for service on the system he can give her a free service call. I think the way the note is worded it would insult her to return it. He is really weirded out about it.
What say y’all? We have not had any illness or hard luck and not hurting for money.
I am so glad the weekend is over:
[ol]
[li]The crazy blind Jamaican lad who screamed at me because I failed to teach her how to use a stapler[/li][li]20 minutes later, the lady who ranted for 10 minutes about the fact that the prce with tax was slightly higher than the sale price on the shelf(and concluded her rant with "I guess I shouldn’t complain.:smack:)[/li][li]watching the Canes lose after going up 2-0 for the 2nd time in a row[/li][li]Almost being rear ended on the way home from the game, despite only going 55 in a 45 zone.[/li][/ol]
So you’re saying you have bedpugs?
The McD’s in Knoxville even has lemon slices.
And glad you’re healing.
Flipper, I’ve been asked not to sing.
