Gale Force Winds - A Blustery MMP

ekedolphin’s (aka Flipper’s) Famous Macaroni & Cheese:

Ingredients:

A potful of macaroni noodles
3 tbsp butter
3 tbsp flour
1 1/2 cups of milk
Package of shredded cheddar cheese
Salt
Pepper

Instructions:

Boil the macaroni noodles until done. Leave them in the strainer. Add flour and butter to the (empty) pan, lowering temperature to medium-high. Stir with a spoon until it forms a roux. Gradually add the milk, taking time to stir it into the roux on each occasion. Eventually, the sauce will be mostly liquid; this is called a “white sauce”. Continue stirring until you have all the milk in the sauce. Add the cheese; stir the sauce until the cheese has melted into the sauce. Add salt and pepper to taste. Add noodles, stirring them into the sauce. Serves 2 hungry people, or 4 regular people.

Simple and hardly original, but good.

I’ve been playing NCAA Football '11 on XBox 360 for awhile now; I’m in the 2023 season with the Kent State Golden Flashes, whom I put in the Big Ten. 10-time national champions. Just defeated Ohio State today with the help of three defensive touchdowns-- two fumble recoveries and one interception return. Improved to 5-0 and dropped the Buckeyes to 4-1.

Finished up my weekly recruiting, and then RPed a little. ekemom woke up and we had breakfast together. Can you believe my grocery store got rid of Cinnamon Life?! GOOD GRIEF! So I had Corn Chex instead.

The board hates me today - I give up

My neurologist finally got back to me with a new treatment plan that might actually help. (cautious optimism) Complete change in my meds and 2 infusions a week at the hospital for a while, but it’s a plan that makes sense considering where I am.

And MIL is gone. Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. I am very happy about that. I’m cleaning her room this morning. I’ll just say that she’s a hoarder and leave it at that. She’s already called once from the airport to ask me about a pile of papers that she left. (I recycled it already. It was things like used lunch menus.) Anyway, I am so excited to get that room clean and to clean around the chair in the living room that she had claimed. Call me easy.

It’s always nice to get your home back when someone leaves, isn’t it, sunny? I hope all goes well at the dentist, ortho and the rest of the medical places.

I might actually be almost caught up on irk by the end of tomorrow. Tomorrow evening, I’m going with my SIL to a big band concert. She won tickets on a radio call in and they include food truck vouchers. It should be fun.

ekemom is making homemade yogurt in the crock pot. I tell you, the woman is obsessed with making homemade yogurt. We’ll be leaving home in a few minutes to give us time to track down a particular auto part (part of the mechanism that stores the spare tire beneath the PT Cruiser), and then we’ll get Chick-fil-A and go to choir practice. No men’s chorale tonight, so it’ll be a 7:30 start time instead of 7 o’clock.

Howdy Y’all! My irk week is over! Let the festivities begin! YAY!!! OK, the festivities so far consist of me puttin’ a couple of hamburger steaks (think huge burgers) in the oven to cook. I shall use the juices from those to saute up some onions and bell peppers and make a kind of gravy. I shall top the hamburger steaks with shredded sharp cheddar cheese when they are done and let the cheese get all melty. This shall be served with succotash. Get over it flytrap we like succotash.

flipper that’s a good basic recipe for mac ‘n cheese. Ever consider throwin’ in other kinds of cheeses? I do that from time to time. Also, if you’re into 'em, some sauteed peppers, and/or onion, and/or 'shrooms. Cubed or shredded ham is also good. Can you tell I sometimes go wild with my mac 'n cheese?

Home - one more (short) day to go. Today is payday and my 401k contributions have finally begun, so yay! It only took them 2 months…

Much idleness today - my boss was frequently out of the office and I didn’t catch him till close to 2:30. He brought me a new assignment about 3:20… at least I’ll have something to do tomorrow.

Dunno what we’ll do for supper. I had been considering N.O.T. soup, but it’s too warm for soup. Maybe I’ll take the easy route and do grilled cheese. We shall see.

We’ll be doing chicken and dumplings when we get home. Yes, chicken for lunch, chicken for dinner.

Home. Yay! I popped open a bottle of champagne that I forgot to drink yesterday.

I have to irk tomorrow but it will be a short day as I have 3 hours of comp time that must be used prior to using any annual leave. If’n I can make significant progress on paying my vendors the first two days of next week I shall be out the rest of the week.

Just thinking out loud here. I just refuse to lose hard earned vacation time. I need to plan better next year.

Love me some Chick-fil-A lemonade! They’ve broken out the cow mascot; tonight is Family Night. Lotta kids here.

**Mom ** how much is the company match. Mine is only 3% but it’s free money.

Dindin has been ingested. 'Twas really good. I shall remember this menu for future use.

Butters I hear ya! This is why I have taken every other Firday off beginnin’ the middle of August. I ain’t losin’ vacation days.

**Butters **- 3% here also. But that’s better than the interest I’m getting on my CD, so yay!

I had grilled cheese for supper and my sweetie had grilled PB&J with strawberry jam. Lazy supper. Ice cream later.

I don’t think I’ll ever be in the state of *having *to use vacation days, especially since I only get 10 per year. I don’t intend to be working here long enough to get to the next tier (4 years.) But I can afford LWOP, so no biggie.

OK, done surfing for the day. Time to crochet. MWAH!

** Mom** I earn 6 hours each 2 weeks and 4 hours of sick leave. Thankfully they let the sick accrue. In three more years I will earn 8 hours each period. It really adds up at that rate and we get, I think, 12 paid holidays each year.
Dinner for me will be either leftover sketties or leftover beef stew. Hubs had to run pay his help and was gonna grab himself a burger. Whatever. Lucky Louie has chapped lips so I put chap stick on it. Always something. When I had his nails trimmed the other day the Vet said since his cancer has not come back in that area it won’t but I know that doesn’t mean he is out of the woods. Cautiously optimistic.

Flipper I have not properly welcomed you. So welcome. Are you a he or she? Are you a young person as Midget is our reining youngster or am I wrong about that. Inquiring minds want to know. BTW I am envious of your location that you have Chick Filet. Where are you?

There are very few fast food options in my paradise, Florida Keys. It’s the small things. No Waffle House or Olive Garden or Golden Corral or Red Robin. No Krispy Creme. In fact no fast food at all within 20 miles of my island.

I had a big lunch, baked chicken breast with stewed tomatoes and rice, so no dinner here. Maybe something small later tonight.

So much to do. Irk has been giving some nice bonuses and I’m not about to turn down extra money.

I hate to rush the season but have already started Christmas shopping. I like to be done by Thanksgiving. One less thing to deal with with everything else going on.

I need to find a way to de-stress.

weather dot com is reporting winds gusting to 36 mph up here on the coast at the Canadian border. There’s a wind advisory until tomorrow afternoon. I hope we don’t lose power again. Last time, it was out for two and a half days.

Sari Ithink I am skipping Christmas this year. Me and Hubby just had the talk about Thanksgiving. Our ritual is to cook a huge feast. This year we have decided to try to cook a smaller feast. We could go to the local Moose club and eat a whole lot cheaper but I need my leftovers.
