No, her name was mentioned. Not in the episode she was introduced, the next one.
Not only that (I don’t remember whether or not they did use her name), but about 30 seconds after Stannis corrected Davos for calling her “The Red Woman”, he himself calls her that.
No, it was Amory Lorch, one of Tywin’s bannermen.
On a related note, I didn’t know that they recast Gregor Clegane with Ian Whyte taking over the role. Wonder why they did that. I thought Conan Stevens had the perfect look for the character. Ian Whyte looks like the ex-basketball player he is.
Somebody fill me in on what the Harrenhall interrogations were about?
They seemed to be asking questions about some underground group. How many members in the village, who are the members, etc. The questions seemed to be vague and the people being interrogated didn’t really seem to understand what they were talking about.
No, he asked who was sent to capture Arya from Syrio not Yoren. Meryn Trant is the one who came for her in kings landing, Amory loch is the one who caught them a couple episodes ago. I hope we see more of him, he was pretty good in his minor role.
:smack: Yep, he said Syrio. My bad.
There was some contract dispute after Conan got work on the Hobbit. You’re right about Whyte. Way too skinny.
Did anyone else catch the GoT history lesson on South Park last night?
Yeah, it had that “The Tudors/The Borgias” over-the-top historical torture-porn vibe going on, didn’t it?
The shadow is powered by dead embryo though. Innocent life OMG!!1
In short, I think he’s cunning but too proud for his own good.
Littlefinger is not proud as much as thoroughly butthurt.
Much of his motivation is that he loathes every last one of the nobles and has an ongoing vendetta against the entire world, because a) he isn’t really one (hence his moniker, which is both a brand of shame and, to him, something of a reminder of why he does what he does) and even though he rose to much greater influence than he should have through coin and smarts they still look down on him. And of course b) because Cat got “stolen” from him by a higher ranking noble.
So, in short, it’s not that he wants to show off how smart he is. It’s that he pathologically needs to take everyone *else *down, all the time. He’s a lot like Tyrion that way, although the latter takes himself less seriously.
And now for something entirely different:
I admit to having been a little put off by Geoffrey’s scene with the hookers - that wasn’t in the book and 1) I fear they start adding more sensationalist stuff as they go along and 2) fuck me, but did they *really *need to add that ? Wasn’t he quite despicable enough a little creep, that they had to turn up his casual misogyny into straight up cartoonish evil ? Were they afraid somebody might have missed the point and rooted for him or something ?
Color me weird, but I was actually a bit disappointed by the Harrenhall scene. When they first arrived I for some reason got it into my head that they were tearing people apart on a rack, which would have been far more awful and visceral to show. So being prepared for that, the scene with the rat was a bit of an anticlimax.
Also, I believe that Stannis’ calling Mallesandra “The Lady in Red” was a bit sarcastic.
I just checked episode 2. The only scenes I could find with the Dragonstone crew were Davos/Matthos/Sallador Saan on the beach and Davos/Stannis/Mathos/Melisandre at the world’s largest dual purpose Risk table/sex table. Neither had her name in it. When was it mentioned?
Well, if you miss a line and rewind with closed captioning, the cc text lists names that haven’t been said aloud in dialog. So in that sense, her name has definitely aired in broadcast.
Where does it state that the show takes place in Great Britain?
The show doesn’t have to be set in Britain for us to notice that all the Westeros characters have British accents and one of them has a fake British accent. Although I think Dinklage’s accent is pretty good. Then again, I’m not British.
Hi everyone! We finally caught up to the current episode. (I don’t know how I’ll bear waiting a whole week between tonight’s ep and the next!)
For what it’s worth, I thought Dany’s refusal to show the dragons was all about the Thirteen trying to establish that they were in control, and her not wanting to start their relationship on the basis of total capitulation. Except for her brief misstep born of desperation (“We’ll die if you don’t let us in”), she was trying to start out as Daenerys Stormborn, of House Targaryen, Khaleesi and Mother of Dragons, a powerful and Important player who they should thank their lucky stars they have the opportunity to ingratiate themselves to, during a brief time when she needs help. For her to come straight-up begging at their door, and meekly assent to their demands, would have set her and her people up to have all their stuff taken and basically be lucky not to be slaves. Presumably the one guy saw that she did have potential as a world power, and decided to risk everything to get in good with her.
As for predictions, I have to wonder if the ridiculous level of sadism displayed by Joffrey won’t be a turning point for Tyrion’s treatement of him. Tyrion seems to be pretty loyal to his family, and until now has viewed Joff as a little shit, but one that he tries to serve (if sometimes by delivering a dope slap). When Roz and friend get delivered back to him torn up, and after seeing the treatment of Sansa, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him scheme some way to get Joffrey out of the picture.
Come to think of it, perhaps part of the reason for Joffrey’s insane level of sadism with the whores was largely about Tyrion. Like “Oh, my uncle thinks he can tame me by sending me some pussy? I’ll show him just how wrong he is.”
I think they did have a rack. I heard screaming, then a sound like bone snapping, and silence.
Oh, I think that was absolutely the intent of that scene. It was his way of pushing back against Tyrion’s condescending treatment of him.
Yeah, that part was fairly obvious. He was going to have the tortured whore delivered to Tyrion.
