Week 5 thread

Your link just brings me right back to this thread.

Woops. Week 5 thread.

The characters have fucking Westeros accents, and for all we know Tyrion’s is the most authentic of them all.

So they sound like Canadians when they’re not fucking?

Would you be defending it if he talked like Jar Jar?

Is it accurate to say that Jar Jar has a Jamaican accent?

So what is the purpose of the smoke spirit thing? Is it going to attack Renly?

I doubt that’s going to be a dangling plot thread.

Yeeeeeeah, that one got to me too. I mean, I get that it’s supposed to be a power play against his uncle, but it was also a bit like the producers were saying “HEY GUYS DID YOU KNOW YOU’RE SUPPOSED TO HATE JOFFREY? BECAUSE YOU ARE. WE JUST THOUGHT WE’D MAKE IT NICE AND CLEAR FOR YOU. YOU’RE WELCOME.”

Then again, I also watched it thinking “yeah, why does this not surprise me at all?”

Good episode. VERY glad to see Tywin ride in and stop the torture - Charles Dance is just great in that role. Liked his regal putdowns of his mooks, and being able to instantly spot that Arya was a girl.

I agree with Unauthorized Cinnamon’s interpretation of why Dany refused to show off the dragons.

Loved the CGI when the Qarth gates open and we see the city within - fantastic!

It’s interesting that that Joffrey scene wasn’t in the book (I haven’t read it) - I wonder if it means they’re going in a slightly different direction with the character. Although he’s done plenty of evil things up until now, most of them could be seenat least in part as him being a petulant teenager with entirely too much power, showing off to the court and overcompensating for his young age. The whole thing with the prostitutes, to me, seemed like a transition to a much more deliberate, entirely grown-up sort of evil.

+1

(My first +1 ever and to be fair I’m not 100% sure what it means :D)

If they establish how much of a shit Joffrey is like they did in the books, we’d be seeing a lot more Sansa. I think the writers on the show just wanted to speed up our understanding of his character.

Sansa, poor thing. She had a real shot at the whole fairy-tale princess ride and took it, and now it’s all turned to shit, with her as Joffrey’s toy to torment as a hated representative of the Stark family, who cannot help her at the moment. I’m wondering if Martin is going to give her Stockholm syndrome.

If anything, she’s got the reverse of Stockholm syndrome, as she initially sided with the Lannisters and rationalized whatever shit they’d been doing because Joffrey :swoon:. But now ? Even when one of them becomes genuinely sympathetic to her plight and tries to figure out where she’s at mentally, she answers what she’s been told to answer like a good little robot, but with just the hint of seething hatred underneath.
If the situation lasts much longer, I reckon she’s going to become as bitter, hard and cold as poor Cersei.

Well, she’s at least smart enough to realize that saying anything other than repeating the rote replies she’s been taught will get her tortured and/or killed.
