Well, if it makes you feel better, I’m fairly sure you’re not supposed to like him much.
Acsenray, I think that scene had power because it was so short. It was over almost before we realized what we were looking at. So casual.
Damn it was a chilling and no more Ros This I think shows Littlefinger in true light, he will use anyone and anything to further himself. Really shows his true colours “shivers”.
While I agree with LawMonkey that the point is that you’re not supposed to like Joffrey, I think it was a bit over the top. I always felt Joffrey was supposed to be an asshole who’s casually cruel, but the TV show has almost made him out to be the sort of guy who becomes a serial killer. Littlefinger as well seems much more overtly evil, as opposed to the books where he comes across as much more likeable/suave (yet still running his own game).
There’s not supposed to be any book references here sigh
At the same time, Sansa is sad because her marriage to Loras (and escape to Highgarden) is off & she declined escaping to “safety” with Littlefinger. She was wise enough not to tell him why she was refusing his invitation, but he found out–although she doesn’t know that. Her own mother trusted Littlefinger; that trust eroded but Cat still doesn’t know how much his perfidy led to Ned’s death.
Now Sansa is stuck in the nest of vipers that is Kings Landing. She knows King Joffrey is a monster–but he’s even worse than she fears.
As someone else pointed out, Tyrion is actually the best of the Lannisters and is likely to look after her well and do his best to prevent her being harmed. Certainly she’s a lot better off in terms of her physical safety married to Tyrion than married to Joffrey. And seeing as Tyrion probably really just wants a way to still be sleeping with Chie, all he has to do is indicate to Sansa that she is free to take other lovers as long as she is discreet and everyone is happy.
Right now who is a greater danger to the realm? Dany and her Dragons? The white walkers? Dany with white walkers? White Walkers withy Dragons?
I think the greatest danger to the realm is the people fighting over that ridiculous throne. Mostly killing peasants who don’t care who sits on it. Leaving the realm vulnerable to reawakening magic, human and inhuman invaders from the North–and dragons!
Oh, and Winter’s coming. Get your act together, people!
Joffrey’s the greatest danger to the Realm, IMO - they’ve only just gotten over the fallout from having to depose the last Mad King (or, in fact, not gotten over it yet - looks like lots of grudges being worked out, like by Stannis). Another one would likely break the country into its component Kingdoms again (I don’t think Dany’s in any position to come in and fix things yet, all she’ll do is add to the chaos by adding one more side to what is currently a 4-way fight? 5 way if we include Wildlings?)
Dragons riding white walkers !
Truth be told, I don’t think there’s much of a realm any more at this point. Feudal countries were always a patchwork of old grudges barely tied together by common hatreds and fears of the next crap kingdom over ; but the quilt’s done unravelled in this one, big time. The wildlings, Dany, even the White walkers might actually be blessings in disguise, the chance to unite all these ornery motherfuckers against a new Foreign Threat.
Not likely, more likely one side or the other will try and make an alliance with the Wildlings or Dany or even the white walkers to their own advantage. At this stage in the game there doesn’t seem to be any thing that they would unite together for, it would be “How can I use these Dragons and Dany to my own advantage and then ultimately betray them” etc etc
Every time I see Theon being tortured I keep wanting somebody to rip his pants off and start fondling Theon Jr. :o Actually I keep wanting to do that. I love, love, love Lady Oleanna. Every scene with her is fantastic. I just love how blasé she is to things like Joffrey’s sadism or her grandson’s sexuality.
Loras is so adorable when he’s pretending (rather badly) to be straight.
Well it’s not like Joffrey’s actually fucking the prostitutes; he’s just torturing them to death.
Loras can barely stop himself from bursting into flames, and Sansa’s too naïve to realize it. Straight men do not (& have not at any time in history) dream of weddings since they were little boys. For crying out loud Loras has the entire thing planned out in his head, and his only thought of the bride was what dress she’s wearing, and still Sansa isn’t the least bit suspicious.
Remember, Sansa never had a chance to see Queer Eye for the Straight Guy or any of the other shows that fine-tune your gaydar. (Yes, I know that all gays do not act that way–but Loras does, just a bit.) Her world is sadly lacking our 21st century pop culture references.
Loras would have managed to make her a mother, at least. Lady Olenna could have helped her deal with the gradual realization that he was not the fervent lover she had hoped for–and perhaps even suggested discreet distractions. As they sat in the sunlit gardens, far from the murderous machinations of Kings Landing…
Sansa does not know what’s in Tyrion’s mighty heart. And she’s still under the rule of King Joffrey.
While it’s not entirely clear to me how much awareness children in Westeros have about sex—after all, the adults don’t really censor themselves when talking about it—it seems to me that as much as it is possible, Sansa really is particularly naive. Her fantasies are all about romance, and her encounters with sexuality are very off-putting (like Joffrey declaring that he’ll “put a baby in” her). I wonder whether she even thinks of sex explicitly when she imagines being married to Loras. Heck, she might be just fine in the end with a husband who isn’t all that sexually interested in her.
Sansa does seem exceptionally sheltered, even for a highborn girl. All she has to go on are her books, and whatever her mother and Septa Mordane told her. The former didn’t expect to have to give her “the talk” until shortly before her wedding, and the later is a celibate priestess. Common children would be much more aware of sex, just like in our own history. I can picture Lady Oleanna getting so exasperated trying to explain things to Sansa she trades euphemisms for graphic vulgarity or trying to show her with dolls, and when that doesn’t fetching some manservants to act it out for her.
Well, we know Jon at least knows where to put it
Joke aside, Winterfell seemed pretty rural, for a great house’s castle. She must have asked her Mum where all the little piglets came from at some point. On the other hand, Septa Mordane could have been the one to give her The Talk. Brrrrrr.

When the scene shifted to her and Tywin Lannister in the same room, my GF actually yelped “oh hell yes” out loud. We like her a lot :).
Shame she doesn’t seem to think much of Tyrion, those two should have been like houses on fire. I’d watch a show consisting of nothing but the two of them on a park bench, just talking shit about everyone else in Westeros for hours on end. Maybe take a break once in a while to embarrass Podrick or let Bron be all nonchalantly mercenary.
Hrmph.
magnusblitz, these threads are considered book-free zones. Please post in one of the threads available for comparing the TV show and the book if you want to talk about these issues.

I’m not sure if Joffrey couldn’t wind up being relatively harmless; given how adept Margaery has been at managing him, he could wind up just pursuing his “hobbies” in private, showing up every now and then to smile and wave at the crowds, and letting his Hand and Small Council deal with the actual business of running the kingdom (which, if I understand correctly, they more or less do already).
Also, they do love brooches in Westeros, don’t they?
