Not just the crappiest castle in the land, they also get its lands. So that’s got to be worth something. Shit, at least four people have been given that stupid thing in the course of a couple dozen episodes.
Well, at the same time what can the Freys really *do *to Robb ? As I remember they only held sway over him and forced him into the original marriage because they control a bridge that Robb desperately needed to cross at that point. Does he still need the bridge ?
I don’t know of anything that’s changed with regard to needing that bridge. And now that he’s lost the Karstark’s support, he’s going to need all the goodwill he can get I think.
Yeah, but I was expecting, “you’ll get my support when you make me the new king of the north!” They were so reluctant to even deal with him the first time, and that was just for crossing a bridge. Now Robb wants all his men.
Robb took his men before, they just abandoned them when Robb got married.
Having lost the Karstarks, Robb is also very short of soldiers.
Here’s something that’s been kinda bothering me ever since the scene with the slave owners: isn’t every power struggle that’s going on rather moot once Dany and her dragons show up? She’s immortal and her dragons are basically apex superweapons. How can she possibly lose against anyone, at all? What or who can stop her?
Who said she was immortal ? She seems to be fire-immune, but that’s about it. As for her dragons, they’re not quite castle-melty scaled just yet.
Also, she’s half a world away and the bigger her army gets, the harder it will become to bring it to the “right” side of the world.
I admit though, the paradox of her ordering slaves to be free, then ordering them *how *to be free never loses its funny to me.
Who says she’s immortal? Fireproof, sure, but I see no reason to believe that she’s also sword, spear, and arrow-proof. Or poison-proof, or falling-down-stairs proof.
…and just because we, the viewers, don’t know of anything that can defeat dragons, that doesn’t mean that everyone in the GoT universe is similarly ignorant.
A group of archers would easily drop any of those dragons, they like dog sized.
She isn’t? I guess since she walked naked out of that totally scorched and collapsed pyre I thought she was. And sure those dragons are smallish now, but once they’re full grown I can’t imagine arrows doing nothing but bouncing off them.
Hadn’t thought about as-yet-unseen powers, or the location issues.
Who said she’s immortal? She’s just got, like +20 to fire resist and 18+ luck.
I seem to vaguely recall some talk that suggested to me that Bran was next in line for Winterfell’s throne, not Sansa. Presumably things are similar in the south, so Tommen next, then Myrcella. Not sure what her husband’s title would be (Prince Philip?). But all that would go out the window if Joffrey or Tommen had children.
ETA: wow, 3/5 of the last posts have almost the same first sentence… I swear it wasn’t intentional! We don’t know how fast dragons grow, but they seem to have grown pretty fast so far.
I think Tywin’s smartest move is to do in Joffrey. It’s not just that he’s a psychopath – psychopaths can rule effectively … it’s that he’s an idiot. He beheaded Ned Stark, provoking a war with the Northmen, who are apparently numerous and good enough fighters to kick Lannister ass all over the place. What other bonehead moves will he make out of the blue. Might even have Tywin killed. Tywin does not appear to have a clue as to what a liability Joffrey could be. He seems to be content to blame Cersei for not being able to control the little shit, without really taking into account the idea that he might not be all that controllable by anyone.
I don’t think there’s been a single scene showing Tywin doing anything about Joffrey, even after he expressed concern about his excesses.
Speaking of which, it wouldn’t surprise me in the least if Sam’s obsidian spearhead of the First Men whot-he-don’t-know-whot-it-doz-it’s-just-really-old turned out to be Westeros’ Black Arrow, as it were.
I’d wager Tyrion’s going to do him in first (and get blamed for it…). He already knows the little shit is out for his dwarf blood, and Cersei has confirmed King Psycho probably wouldn’t stop trying. Hell, he’s probably too *dumb *to stop. If it were me that in itself would probably warrant a shanking in the night, seeing as it’s dark, full of terrors and such. I mean, it’s one thing to look out for one’s family first and foremost, and another to let it kill you.
Well, Rob is their de facto King. It would seem to be unwise to be unreasonable with him. With the new deal, the daughter still gets to marry up, they get some lands and titles, and they don’t elicit Rob’s ire, which would be both dumb and pointless.
Someone remind me… didn’t we have some indication that the spear-head that Sam found was the key to (at least, easily) killing dragons? Other than that, it’s not hard to imagine that other magic/gods have ways to at least somewhat deal with dragons and/or mitigate the threat they pose.
ETA: Bah, ninja’ed by a stinkin’ minute!
I wouldn’t consider Harrenhall the crappiest castle in Westeros. Littlefinger certainly desires it, and I give him enough credit to focus his efforts on things of value. Plus, it’s likely the largest piece of land available that isn’t already assigned to a family. Also, Frey seems to be enamoured of places with strategic value (his castle being the only place to ford that big river within however big an area), and it sounds like Harrenhall used to be one of the more crucial keystones in Westeros (pre-dragons).
I was wondering about the spearhead. I thought perhaps he might put it or drop it in the fire, and then it would demonstrate that it’s magical.
Sorry, I just saw the “no book spoilers” and figured since it wasn’t a spoiler it was okay. But I understand that it’s more a “book-free zone” (or acting like the books don’t exist as another person said). Mea culpa.
However, the “crappiest castle” is very sought after. He’s the third one asking for it. And the uncle, as lord of Riverrun has the same rank as the Lannister, Stark, Tyrell, etc..
