Game of Thrones 3.06 "The Climb" 5/5/2013 No Spoilers

I don’t get this “crappiest castle” thing. It looks a bit melted, but it’s been like that for hundreds of years. That doesn’t make it a crappy castle.

Well, it kinda does. It’s pretty much indefensible in its current state, which is why the Lannisters didn’t even try and defend it - they bolted once it became clear the Northmen were on their way.
Also, it must be extremely drafty, and winter is coming
Oh, and finally, as another poster’s said it’s been handed out to like 5 people in 12 episodes, and its designated owners keep finding ways to get killed or ousted. No wonder people say it’s cursed.

Sure, but when they become teen-agers they are going to get all mopey and telling their Mother that they “hate it here”.

Poor, poor Ros. She was my favorite sexposition whore.

He’s also a crap dad. That poor little girl, locked up in her chamber, and then offhandedly told that her best grownup friend is a traitor. Call Child Services!

Dany’s existence isn’t a secret. The Small Council knew about her and King Robert gave the order for her assassination, after all. Stannis would consider her just another pretender to the throne, given his older brother’s supplanting of the Mad King and his entire family.

And a ginger, no less!

Which one?

Seems too easy of a plot prediction but you could see the current Westeros in chaos get even worse with an invasion of white walkers. Seems like a perfect opportunity for Dany to sweep in, save the day, and reclaim the throne with her ultimate weapon against the undead… fire breathing dragons.

Did the Small Council know because everyone knows, or do they have special information?

She’s the daughter of the former monarch. I don’t think most people think about her often, but I’d be surprised if they didn’t know she escaped.

That being said the Small Council does have special information, Jorah was/is a spy.

I’m not sure “offhandedly” is fair. Stannis didn’t seem entirely comfortable with that. He seems to have some degree of compassion for his daughter.

Was, he got his pardon after he told them of her pregnancy and he decided to save her rather than go back home.

AwwwwYeaaahhh, you gave me a wild-hair-up-my-ass moment…
“Always look on the Baelish side of Life”

Some kings in Westeros are bad
They can really make you mad
Other kings just make you swear and curse.
When you’re chewing on the Mad King’s gristle
Don’t grumble, give a whistle
And this’ll help me get the Throne in the West…

And...always look on the Baelish side of life...
Always look on the Baelish side of life...

If Joffrey seems jolly rotten
There’s something you’ve forgotten
And that’s to subvert and scheme and betray and sing.
When Harrenhal is in the dumps
Don’t be silly chumps
Just marry Lysa, double my holdings - that’s the thing.

And...always look on the Baelish side of life...
Always look on the Baelish side of life...

For Ned was quite absurd
And death’s his final word
I must always face Lord Varys with a bow.
Forget about your sin - my whores will give you a grin
Enjoy it - it might be your last chance anyhow.

So always look on the Baelish side of death
Just before Ros's terminal breath

Order’s a piece of shit
When you look at it
Chaos’s a laugh and death’s a joke, it’s true.
You’ll see it’s all a show
Keep 'em trusting me as I go
Just remember that the Mockingbird’s last laugh is on you.

And always look on the Baelish side of life...
Always look on the Chaos side of life...
(Come on Varys, ladder up!)
Always look on the Baelish side of life...
Always look on the Baelish side of life...
(Worse things happen at Blackwater, you know.)
Always look on the Baelish side of life...
(I mean - what have I got to lose?)
(You know, I come from nothing - I'm going back to something.
What have *you* lost? Everything!)
Always look on the Baelish side of life...

He invested some time in her. Littlefinger’s time is valuable. Do you have any idea how fucking busy he is? He’s so busy that he has to give exposition on his history while writing a letter and watching a live lesbian performance of analingus.

As it so happens, the answer to this question (that had been intriguing me as well) popped up in the middle of 2x08, during a meeting between Varys and Tyrion atop the ramparts of King’s Landing. The former says one of his little birds heard a song that had come to the docks all the way from Qarth, which said “Daenerys Targaryen still lives”.

At a guess, I’d say the songs of her exploits flew on the wings of bards all the faster after she became bona fide Mother of Dragons, tore Qarth apart, put that slaver city to the torch with their own soldiers… maybe not to the point that Joe Muckfiddler the pigshit farmer of the ass end of the Riverlands might have heard them, but the first and second rate nobles ? Probably so by now.

I should be that good a multitasker. Sadly, talking about myself entrances me all too easily.

My first thought 10 seconds into that very awkward scene with Sam and Gilly was “oh look, Chekhov’s Spearhead.” I think exposition has generally helped move the GOT plot along, but that was heavy handed, even for them.

Heh.

This reminds of a question I had, which is whether timelines are 100% contiguous on GoT, or do some plot lines get significantly ahead of others? All the travel and war-waging (or sitting around not waging war) confuse me a little. I’m not even sure how much time has passed since the battle of Blackwater (?) Bay.

What is the nature of the prostitutes’ relation to Littlefinger? Are they legally bound to do what he says? Or are they free to go whenever they wish? I know that Westorosi society frowns on slavery.

Yes, he has to multitask, like this ancient businessman:

The showrunners are deliberately trying to keep issues related to time and passage thereof vague because trying to uphold a strict canonical calendar would be loony toons basketball.

I don’t think it’s a spoiler since it’s just some backstory stuff I read unrelated to the plot, but apparently Harranhal is a bit of a boondoggle as far as castle fortresses go. Harranhal requires such a large force to defend effectively or just even to maintain as a residence it that the local economy can’t support it.

It seems to be a convenient strategic location as a temporary staging base, but it doesn’t seem like anyone has a burning desire to permanently garrison it (no pun intended).

I suppose legally they can come and go as they please. But like most pimp/ho relationships, their choice to do as they’re told or go beg in the streets of Flea Bottom, most likely getting raped and murdered. Plus it’s not like there’s someone they can complain to.

The whole point of the spoiler rule here is that it doesn’t trust to anyone’s judgment whether something is a spoiler or not. Did this information come from the TV show or not?
