He’s king Roberts bastard son. Like all of his children no matter who the other parent was Gendry looks Baratheon through and through. That’s why the Lannisters wanted to off him, along with all the other kingly bastards, it is basically the only “proof” that Joffrey Myrcella and Tomnen aren’t Baratheons. Mellisandre wants him for his king’s blood for witchy purposes.
Because Rob is across enemy territory, the north is crawling with Iron men and they would have to go through war ravaged country to get to him. Going to the wall is much easier, unexpected, and considered a “safe” place for a Stark to be.
Varys claimed to be trying to prevent the realm falling into chaos, Littlefinger likes chaos.
I seem to recall a conversation between Tyrion and Cersei in which Cersei admits, or at least allows Tyrion to believe, that it was Joffrey himself that ordered the deaths of all of Robert’s bastards and that Cersei was unable to stop him. Tyrion then scolds Cersei for being unable to control Joffrey.
I have to say, I was quite shocked and dismayed by the manner of Ros’s death. That was harsh and creepy.
Is Ros the first person that Joffrey has straight up killed? As opposed to ordering someone else do it.
Also, just a few weeks back I was lamenting that they seemed to have dropped the whole “Gendry is Robert’s son” storyline. Good to see that it’s back in action.
On preview, I’m beaten to the punch, but I’ll submit this anyway:
In season 1, Ned Stark tracked down several of Robert Baratheon’s bastard sons to see what they looked like. Gendry was one of them–working for a blacksmith in King’s Landing–and every one of them has dark hair like Robert. That’s how Ned knew Joffrey wasn’t Robert’s son and is therefore not a true heir to the throne.
Then, at the beginning of last season, we see Joffrey’s men hunting down and killing all of Robert’s bastard sons, presumably to keep everyone else from finding out what Ned had discovered and to remove any potential challengers to his right to rule. Gendry escaped by joining the group headed toward the Wall.
Melisandre told Stannis that he wasn’t strong enough to produce more of the shadow demons, but that someone else with “king’s blood” would suffice. Apparently that someone else is Gendry, who has Robert’s blood.
It seems obvious, after the fact, that Joffrey ordered the attempt on Tyrion’s life. So much so that I can’t remember why he/we thought it was Cersei behind it before. Anybody?
Well, Cersei was none too pleased with Tyrion acting as the Hand, since she wanted to control Joffrey all by herself. Also, Cersei was afraid that Tyrion was trying to get Joffrey killed by pressuring him to lead his men in the battle against Stannis’ invasion. Plus, Tyrion knows about Cersei and Jamie and that Joffrey is their son.
Which, to me, confirms my theory from a week or two back that Theon is being held by a Bolton bannermen, most likely at the Bolton base, IE the Dread Fort.
I am now of the opinion that the batshit loon that’s torturing Theon is, in fact, Roose Bolton’s bastard himself.
Tyrion had two women delivered to Joffrey’s room in an earlier episode in the hopes that the little bastard would calm down if he was getting laid. Joffrey whipped out a crossbow (the same he used in this episode and the same he threatened Sansa with in the middle of court) after having them beat the fuck out of each other and I’m pretty sure he killed one or both of them.
Why wouldn’t she be into John Snow? Girls dig brooding, athletic guys from wealthy families.
I don’t think there are easier ways. According to the Wiki on The Wall, it’s unbroken for 300 miles except for a locked access tunnel at each fort. And those are sealed when the forts are abandoned.
“I think you would have learned your lesson about over-playing your…position.”
Brienne and Lady Stark were pretty shocked for all of 10 seconds before Renley’s guards came storming in and assumed he wasn’t killed by a shadow monster.
One of those women was Roz. I think we saw the other one later too.
Well, he probably didn’t give Tywin the plan, but he told the Lannisters of the Tyrell’s/Varys’s plan. Either way, he ruined Varys’s plan, and I think he knew full well that once he did he wouldn’t get Sansa either.
One of the northern houses under Robb Stark’s command, their sigil a flayed man on a cross. Lord Roose Bolton is currently in charge of Harrenhal. He’s the nice gentleman who agreed to let Jaime return to King’s Landing.
Rickon had a line or two of dialogue when Jojen was having his seizure. Weird that you missed that.
