Game of Thrones 3.09 "The Rains of Castamere" 6/2/13 No book spoilers

It’s kinda crazy we haven’t heard more Lysa Tully. Has there been any indication Robb had tried to get her to join the war? Seemed like she could add a lot of troops as a major lord/lady. (her husband was hand to the king) Have the Lannisters mentioned her as a threat even? She would have way more forces at her disposal than the Freys.

The only other major forces that could be opposed to the Lannisters (besides Stannis) are the Greyjoys, currently causing problems in the north, and the southern kingdom, Dorne. We don’t know much about Dorne at this point, except Joffrey’s sister went off on a boat to make an alliance.

In Season 1, Cat went to Lysa to ask for her help and Lysa, in between letting her preteen son suckle at her breast, stated pretty strongly that she was not going to get involved in any wars; she feared for her son’s safety, above all.

Even after the TV season is over, the “no book stuff” in show threads marked “no book stuff” continues.

Isn’t Littlefinger going off to marry her? I imagine we’ll being seeing her next season.

Yes, that’s the plan. That’s why we saw him sailing off, leaving Sansa behind.

Ah that’s right, so the Lannisters are concerned enough to try to seal another alliance with marriage. Why is Littlefinger so faithful to the Lannisters anyway? I guess he’s managed to worm his way up to a major Lord now, from master of coin, but if he becomes the new Lord of the Eyrie, what would compel him to stay loyal to the crown?

I guess it’s a losing effort at this point anyways, unless Stannis could convince Dorne and the Iron Islands and Northerners-who-hate-Bolton to join as well – the Lannisters have no shortage of could-be enemies, it’s just a matter of if the rebellion could ever organize itself.

I think that’s what Varys is worried about. Littlefinger will always want more power than he has, so eventually that means he will rise up against the crown.

So, there is one person who agrees with me:

One of my favorite lines of the season was Tywin in the last episode where they talk about the Red Wedding, he asks someone to explain why it’s morally sounder to kill 10,000 on a battlefield instead of 12 people at a supper. And it’s true. But we invested in the Starks, and it’s horrible and terrible, and it’s a horrifying incident — but if we’d been invested in all these Lannister soldiers on the battlefield, it would have been horrible as well. I just like the way we play with perspective. Jaime, I’ve never seen him as a bad guy before. Of course his actions have been very brutal, but I’ve never seen him as a baddie doing something horrible just because he likes it. It’s more the fact that we all have the capability within us to do stupid things — horrible things.

Except where he pushes Bran out the window with a smile on his face and his boner never skipped a beat.

Also murdered his cousin for what turned out to be no good reason. Other than that, a sterling character, except for being a Kingslayer. And into incest. And probably a lot of other things we don’t know about.

no it is not. Robb’s army were slaughtered during the Red Wedding as well, so the whole point of killing less people comes with a great dollop of lies. it is remarkable how a person’s need to justify his own actions turns omissions into facts. and even more interesting when your actor starts believing them as well.

The number of people killed at the Red Wedding was considerably less than that. Robb had not brought along his entire force. Furthermore, his army was made up of a lot of people who had switched dudes, like those led by the Karstarks, the Freys, the Boltons, etc.
and compare that number not just to the size of the Lannisters’ forces but also to the total number of people who might eventually die as a result of an extended war.

my point is that exaggerating facts lowers your moral highground. so yes, there are less people killed, but much, much more than it is made out to be.

I hear he has unpaid King’s Landing parking tickets out the wazoo.

I’m told he’s a lousy tipper, too.

Also, that Kingslayer thing… I hear the King he slayed was kind of a douche.

Despite his psychopathic dickishness I was never on the kill Joffrey bandwagon. The entitled attitude was grating and his casual killing of women was almost too over the top. But when he took the stool away from Tyrion and snickered, wow! I wanted to step through the television and smack him with a trout. I wonder if there’s a literary or psychological term for that phenomenon where a lesser offense causes a bigger reaction.

Not exactly what you mean, but…: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/KickTheDog

The important stuff:

  1. WTF in the bedding ritual?
  2. What happens to the wedding presents?
  3. The uncle is still looking for a tree to piss up, or he was on the other side?

I’m afraid when I see it written down, I see it as Kings-layer. Then I tell myself that’s more of a job for the Knight of Flowers
