Not “Lord of Light” but “light of the world” was used by Jesus, referring both to himself and to his followers.
Seriously. Just crush them. I don’t think they’d be missed.
When “Previously on Game of Thrones” included clips from Season 1! I knew this was going to be a wild ride. Notice that they included the Greyjoy turf in the opening credits this time.
Glad to see that some giants survived the assault on the Wall.
Franken-mountain (are we really not supposed to know who’s behind the visor?) has an interesting hand-to-hand combat technique: punch 'em in the face so their brains smash on the wall. That’ll work.
I’m picturing Jon sitting up and walking outside. The giant freaks out and breaks him.
Hey, Beric was rezzed what, 6 times?
It takes Wun-Wun about 5 more times to break the habit of just reflexively smooshing the zombie.
I’d somehow managed to avoid that particular corner of the culture, and was surprised when I opened the spoiler box.
Agree 100%. This was a nagging concern I had with the show last year. All of the fairly interesting characters had or were being killed off. It feels like the scales are tipping to secondary characters without the same level of complexity and nuance to their actions and motivations. Ramsey and Jofferey are easy to enjoy as “bad guys” but they have the depth of a teaspoon.
There’s the whole army of Unsullied; plus Vaerys and Theon. And what’s unusual is that the last two have had penilectomies, which is just gratuitous mutilation, not necessary for creating eunuchs. Methinks GRRM has Issues.
They could their own spinoff show: the Ex Men
It’s regarded as strong taboo throughout Westeros, under both the Old Gods and the New.
Rickard Karstark accuses Robb Stark of being a kinslayer as he is about to be executed, even though they are only distantly related.
In most of the examples I gave, the kinslaying is either suspected but not confirmed (although it may be known to the audience) or has been carried out by someone powerful enough to avoid punishment (so far), although it affects their reputation. Also the taboo may apply only to blood relations, not relatives by marriage.
Another example I overlooked is Craster’s sacrifice of his sons.
Maybe they are making room for Little-Finger to come back to prominence. He’s been side-lined since delivering Sansa to Ramsey.
I’m guessing you saw the movie, so when you happen to see articles discussing the movie you click on them to see if there’s anything interesting.
As someone who hasn’t seen the movie, I don’t click on discussions of or articles about the movie. So far I count at least three of us in this thread who had no trouble avoiding that spoiler until this completely unrelated thread about a wildly popular show.
As for how long to consider something a spoiler, it’s definitely longer than the time period of “you can only possibly have seen this in the theater or from illegal bootlegging.”
I’ve seen the movie, but don’t recall having seen spoilers of that particular plot point inadvertently.
There are a lot of other movies I may not see for a year or more after they come out in the theaters, since I am generally reliant on seeing them on DVD.
I would not assume anyone has seen even a major movie for several years after it comes out.
Its been available on blu ray since April 5th. Not that I think it wasn’t dickish to post that spoiler, but anyone that wants to see the movie has had ample chance to see it. At a certain point you shouldn’t expect all of society to protect you from spoilers on something you’ve had every chance to see. In my experience anything I expect from social media or society at large leaves me pretty disappointed.
No they haven’t. Not everyone has Blu-ray. Not everyone can get to a theater.
Your experience isn’t everyone’s. As a courtesy one should be extremely careful about posting potential spoilers in unrelated threads. The standard shouldn’t be “I can post anything I want as long as people have had a chance to see it.”
A couple of points that have occurred to me:
- Bran’s vision.
I’ve seen it posited elsewhere that our glimpse of Lyanna Stark might be the beginning of the confirmation of the R+L=J theory. What occurs to me is that our glimpse of young Benjen in the same scene might also play into that. The last we saw of Benjen was when he wandered off into the frozen north several seasons ago. Some people may have forgotten Nedd’s younger brother - not me. They spent too much time fleshing out his character to just have him vanish and never be seen again.
My theory: Benjen shows up next episode, or the one after. Benjen is likely to be one of the few people alive who knows the secret of Jon’s ancestry. He’d also make an excellent Lord Commander now that Jon has been released from his vows by dying.
- What Ramsay said shortly before stabbing his dad: “We have the Karstarks, the Manderleys {or some name like that} and the Umbers on our side.”
The Umbers were the family that Rickon and Osha were heading for when we last saw them. I don’t think the Umbers are really on the the Boltons’ side at all. Might even be planning a red wedding of their own.
I know I said it earlier, but long-term I’m pretty sure Ramsay is dogfood. Either by his own hounds or at the jaws of one of the surviving Stark direwolves. Perhaps Rickon’s direwolf, Shaggydog.
I never said any of that. I just think its pointless to shake your fist at the internet about stuff like this. It will never change. People don’t work like that. A person can be convinced to change, but we’re talking about the entire internet. I’m just saying that you’ll be much happier if you make it a point to see the things you don’t want spoiled as soon as its possible. If its not possible for you to have seen TFA no matter what by this time, then this of course doesn’t apply to you, but its still seems foolish to think that you can shame the entire internet into changing its behavior.
I used to get mad at people spoiling things like game of thrones on facebook, but I decided rather than get mad about it, since it ain’t going to change, I just make sure to watch as soon as I can, and avoid facebook until I do.
TFA was/is a cultural phenomenon. That’s hard to keep a lid on for 5 months on an open platform like the internet. I’m sorry you were spoiled, but expecting the entire internet to keep a secret for you indefinitely is inevitably going to lead to disappointment.
Beyond this, no monarchy could survive having the King’s mother and wife kidnapped in the capital city. Add that to Tywin, Joeffry, and Myrcella’s death and there is no way the Lannister’s should remain in power. Every one of their vassal kingdoms should be revolting and some baron should be leading an internal revolt.
Posting the spoiler in an unrelated thread was certainly wrong, however the movie was still in some theaters in my area for a solid 5 months. It may have been shorter in other places, but no doubt it has had a much longer run than most movies. It has been available on Amazon, iTunes, RedBox, anyplace DVD, BluRay or streaming is available for a month. If you haven’t seen it by now, I would think it is due to a lack of interest more than a lack of opportunity.
No one’s talking about the entire internet. It is just suggested that people should show courtesy to others here. Just because it might be spoiled elsewhere is no reason to be oblivious to doing it here.
Once again, you are speaking of your own personal experience. Not everyone is in the US or has access to the means of seeing it you list. And not needing to see it immediately doesn’t mean you’re uninterested in seeing it at all.
You can’t control the entire internet, but you can control what you personally do. Do use the excuse “You should have seen it by now!” as an excuse to be careless about spoiling things yourself.
I stand corrected on its availability. I must not have been watching much tv recently, because I don’t recall any ads for it on BluRay.
Still a total dick move, and the hyperbole of expecting the entire internet to cater to me is laughable on its face. This is obvious and demonstrably provable, since I personally have easily avoided spoilers for it until now with pretty much zero effort. How? I don’t use social media, and I don’t open articles or discussions about the movie.
If this were a Force Awakens thread, and I opened it and got spoiled because people weren’t using boxes, then yes, that would be shame on me. But this isn’t a Force Awakens thread. This thread isn’t even remotely related to The Force Awakens. So posting spoilers for it here is a clear violation of board guidelines. Shame on (proverbial) you.
This would be really awesome (if done right). But I’m pretty sure that Joseph Mawle (who played Benjen) hasn’t been spotted near the sets and locations during filming – and there are several folks and websites who keep an eye on these things (and have caught other “surprise” returning stars prior to broadcast this way). It doesn’t make it impossible – it just means that, if it happens, the producers will have done an unprecedented good job in keeping hidden a relatively major character’s actor, and this hasn’t happened yet on the show.
But I hope you’re right, since it’d be very cool.
I’m extremely worried that the “gift” that it looks like the Umber’s are presenting Ramsay is going to be Rickon.
