Yeah, that’s the one I mean with the motion blur. Look at the pics I posted.
Have we ever seen the Waif be particularly good at assassination? She appears to be a trainee like Arya. We see her beat the crap out of Arya with a stick regularly but that doesn’t mean she’s great with a dagger or human anatomy.
Plus, she clearly wasn’t trying to minimize Arya’s suffering. She may have deliberately chosen to strike in a non-fatal way so that Arya would bleed out slowly in agony, instead of quickly in seconds.
I don’t think there’s any good explanation for Arya’s ability to run like a human car-chase through Bravos, though. Not unless much more time elapsed while she was recovering than we were led to believe. Plus much of that chase was cheesy as heck. (Does every chase scene need spilled fruit? Really?)
I did, but it seems to me that you can have foreshortening, but not forelengthening. The longest one should be the truest.
As for motion blur, I see it above and to the left of her hand, which means that her hand is moving down and rightward, which means that the tip of the blade is the true tip, and since her hand is in front of the blade, the blur of her hand should cover any blur of the blade, so the first place you see the blade coming out of her hand should be the true hilt. It looks a foot long to me.
This isn’t a reasonable objection. The Waif intentionally inflicted suffering, not death. If Arya hadn’t pushed her away and jumped off the bridge, I think the Waif would have pushed her off herself. She wanted Arya to suffer a slow, miserable death. (And wouldn’t have minded at all if it required a follow-up stabbing several days later. I think she preferred it that way, actually.)
She stabbed her twice in about a second, without looking where she was striking, and the wounds were a couple of inches apart. She was not trying to avoid vital organs.
By the same token, she wasn’t aiming for the heart, lungs or neck either.
She was stabbed in the abdomen. A very survivable area to be stabbed. Her heart, lungs, liver, spleen, stomach and so forth were above where she got stabbed. Her entrails, are slippery coils, that tend to get pushed aside from blades, it’s not really a stretch. If her bowels aren’t pierced, and she didn’t lose a major artery, she could survive. Infection is another thing, of course.
I don’t know what to tell you, you have one pic that is obviously motion blurred, and I have several frames with the knife in different orientations.
We’ll have to agree to disagree on that one.
I would say her chances of not having her intestines and/or major arteries pierced from that stabbing are less than 2%; her chances of not contracting infection from the canal are less than 1%; and her chances of being able to sprint and leap like she did after the stabbing are precisely zero.
And those numbers are pulled from a dark and fetid place. Maybe the same place where that Brotherhood guy put his finger.
Also, I went over it again and I’ve found the smoking knife: Imgur: The magic of the Internet
Wish I found that the first time, it would have saved some back and forth.
And I have a question for the apologists: This was nearly the 60th episode of GOT. Most of the people alleging bad writing have made many posts about the show over the years, almost all of them very enthusiastic about the quality of the writing. Why would we all suddenly pick this episode to trash, if there weren’t something objectively worse about the writing?
If you disagree, fine. You evidently have a higher tolerance for sloppy writing. But don’t try to tell us we’re all nuts.
I’m fairly certain that if the people who cared for him were not being assaulted by merciless skeleton wights, they would have done everything in their power to treat Jojen’s wounds.
One thought that occurs to me is that the previous 5 seasons of GOT were based on the books. Unlike those seasons, the book that season 6 is based on is still a work in progress. I suspect book 6 will end up to be partially based on Season 6, not the other way around. I understand Martin has told the GOT writers/producers SOME of the situations/places/deaths/etc. that he wants to happen in season 6, but may have left a lot of slack for the pre-production people to figure out how to get there.
Not really; you can’t make me unsee the frame I posted, and simply alleging blur isn’t convincing when the blade seems absolutely solid.
However, it’s possible that this scene was shot in multiple takes with different knives. In fact, I just took another look, and there is blood on the blade before the first stab, so the scene definitely has continuity errors.
Sooooo. Does anyone have a prediction on where Arya will land in Westros? Where all the ports again? Which would be closest and practical to get to from Braavos?
I don’t think she’ll make it back this season. We’ve got the Battle, maybe Cersie’s trail and the Slavers to get to.
…this thread is just… exhilarating.
if they want a big twist for the Snowbowl… Jamie shows up with the Lannister army…and sides with the Starks. The Boltons are in defiance of the crown as well (not handing Sansa over), Jamie could argue stabilizing the region by backing the Starks is in the crown’s best interest.
Interesting, perhaps Sansa’s extra special raven-mail was to Jaime rather than Petyr, obliging him to fulfill his vow to Cat by restoring her to Wnterfell. She would be aware of this from Brienne.
The safest place for her to go at first would theoretically be The Vale, which is directly across from Braavos and ruled by her cousin Robin. I don’t think she knows much about Littlefinger’s machinations.
If she wants to get back to Jon and Sansa, she should head to the North but that would be pretty risky. Although almost everyone thinks she’s dead, the region is still in turmoil. But she might take that risk.
Her only reason to go to King’s Landing would be to kill Cersei and The Mountain, but they may not be tops in her priorities at the moment.
I can’t see much reason for her to go anywhere else.
So clearly they will send her to Dorne to tie up the WTF wasted storylines, then sit back and watch the internets explode.
She gets on a boat…and finds her shipmate to be… Varys also headed to Dorne.
