This is the thread for open discussion about the books and show.

One thing I’d like to suggest - if something comes from the previews or future episode descriptions, it would be appreciated if you spoiler boxed it. Those things are put together by marketing people, and not the writers, and can give away things we’d rather know when the writer/editor wanted to, not the marketing team.

We know there’s a trial by combat coming up and this episode is titled “The Broken Man”. The Hound was a broken man the last we saw him. I guess what I’m trying to say is …

CLEGANBOWL 2016! GET HYPE!!! WHAT IS HYPE MAY NEVER HYPE!

(Okay, so I really doubt that’s what it is. A man can dream.)

Wow!

Oh, there’ll be no living with Rigamarole after this.

Too short!

Jesus fuck, those are some cliffhangers.

The Hound, pulled out of retirement for one last job!

Damn. I saw Ian McShane, and I figured he’d stick around a while.

fuuuuuck! Arya, I thought you’d be better prepared than that . . .

Fuck!

Yikes, I’m lost. Why would the Brotherhood without Banners kill those people? And ditto on Arya.

Lady Mormont is my new favorite character. I can’t believe she even went to war with the troops.

As it was happening I thought those were killing stabs. I’m guessing it’ll turn out to be non-lethal though. Her story line doesn’t make a ton of sense if she just ends up bleeding out in a Braavosi alleyway.

He dissed the show as being nothing but “tits and dragons”. IDK which is the cause and which is the effect.

I’m not the only one that pegged that old lady as being the waif in disguise the moment we saw her, right?

I’m anticipating a cleverly placed coin purse deflected the stabs enough to make it a survivable wound.

Either that, or a red priest/priestess just saunters up . . .

Here’s hoping anyway.

Yeah, that was pretty obvious.

However improbable the setup may be, I want a scene between the Queen of Thorns and the Lady of Bear Island. I loved the jab about Sansa being a Bolton, no wait, a Lannister.

Given the number of returns we’ve had this season (Jon Snow, Benjen, and now the Hound), I wonder if a former dancing master might help out a wounded girl. Assuming he survived, Bravvos would be the most likely place for him to flee.

Ian McShane is wonderful in pretty much everything he’s in. It’s a shame it was such a minor role.

There wasn’t much doubt that Margery was playing the long con, but now it’s confirmed. I wonder if she has a specific plan or is just trying to tread water long enough to get people like her grandmother to safety. I hope she gets some kind of revenge on the High Sparrow after he told her to lay back and think of Westeros.

He’s actually kind of right. And reading this interview from The Telegraph, his appearance was always planned to be one episode.

Yeah there have been better disguises on Scooby Doo. What’s funny is that seemed such a brutal wound that unless there is some circumstances like a coin purse it will seem like Arya was saved by the Magic of being a Main Character which usually means dick on this show. I am thinking the Acting Troupe will help her.

Other thoughts:

So who was Sansa writing? Has to be Littlefinger right?

That scene between Grandma Tyrell and Cersei was just beautiful. It was long over due she got a slap in the face for what she did.

I don’t think that was the brotherhood without banners was it? I didn’t recall them being thieves but it’s been a log time since I saw those episodes.

Was this the first episode with a cold open before the credits? Of course I went to my kitchen for a snack thinking I had a minute because of the credits and this is the one episode that starts right in. Luckily I ran back in when I heard talking so I didn’t really miss anything.

How awesome was the Lord of Bear Island?

Great episode. I loved the actress who played Lady Mormont. It’s damn hard to cast a good child actor, and she hit it out of the park.

Saw the old lady stabbing coming a mile away, but Arya has to survive this. I’m surprised that she didn’t see it coming, but she’s probably been eyeing every random person since she left the Faceless Men, so I can see how she might not be able to keep her guard up every minute. I’d expected her to kill the waif, and she still might, but I suppose being left for dead might be enough for the Faceless Men to leave her alone. Unless they want that new face for the wall.

So, Sansa is writing Littlefinger, right? Has to be, otherwise it wouldn’t be a big deal. And The Vale has one of the largest armies, right?

Can’t wait for the next one. This has been a great season.

What is the relationship between Lady Mormont and Ser Jorah? Is he her father? Uncle?

Cousins.

I’m not sure how the Mormonts could survive as a house with only 62 men at arms. They’re on an island, but the Greyjoys would be all up in their business
