Game of Thrones 6.10 "The Winds of Winter" 6/26/16 [Show discussion]

I did, as soon as Frey noticed she wasn’t one of his.

Loved the Titus Andronicus bit, but Frey should have eaten and commented how good the pie was.

You wanna get lemonaded?

Let’s be real, a lot of what happened was expected, but it was damn satisfying. Poor Thomen was worm food as soon as he got that crown on his coconut, but the unceremonious manner of his death was a surprise. I will mourn for Margaery, one of my favorites, and Lord Frey was too chatty today, so I suspected he had it comming.

So, it’s queens all around, eh?

Jon’s going to have to start getting a lot more cunning not that he’s a king (he accepted, right?) and with Littlefinger around.

Holy shit there is. Cersei may have claimed the Iron Throne for herself, but all that means now is she owns a pointy chair made out of iron. I’m shocked they didn’t how her cutting herself on it.

Neither does Cersei. Her children are dead, and they were the only thing that humanized her. They were the only check on her. There’s nothing and no one to stop her now. Even Jaime’s powerless to do anything other than kill her if he get’s close enough. It’s clear now that she’s the Mad Queen, not Daenerys. I think Cersei’s going to go on to do even more depraved things than mass murder or having a clergywoman sodomized to death by a zombie.

It didn’t look like they were stopping everyone from leaving; they were preventing Margaery from leaving with Loras. She would’ve gotten out if she left him, which of course she wouldn’t do (whether she could’ve gotten far enough away from the Sept to survive is another thing). This was the Westerosi 9/11 and Reichstag fire rolled into one.

She also has no food and Winter has arrived.

It’s so obvious that Jon Snow is really Jon Targaryen now it’s not even worth debating.

Jaime also has nothing to lose now.

Part of my wants to crawl into a stasis pod until season 7 starts.

Daenerys has dragons to back up her claim, but they also made a big deal about her having to seek allies through marriage. Jon would be an ideal husband for her.

I think what would cause a split is that Cersei’s actions resulted in the death of his son.

Is speculation allowed?

Cersei’s prophecy:
And when your tears have drowned you, the valonqar shall wrap his hands about your pale white throat and choke the life from you.

Valonqar is High Valerian for ‘little brother’. Sounds like Tyrion is going to get all killy with her.
That mask looked different from all the FM masks we have seen before. This one looked like a heavy rubber mask, while all the previous FM masks slipped off like they were made of silk.

And that, as storyteller0910 says upthread, she killed innocents in the exact same manner as the Mad King would have, had Jaime not had a moment of conscience then.

Very satisfying to see so many threads tied up, even at the loss of some good characters. I don’t think we’ve seen another episode with the death of so many major characters.

I expected the last scene to be Dany’s fleet setting sail, and was not disappointed. I must say that Missandei has been transformed. Her black leather battle sarong or whatever it was was smoking hot.

I expected some subset of Margaery, Loras, and Tommen to go, but not all of them. And Cersei did end up causing Tommen’s death, although not in the way I expected. I wouldn’t have expected Tommen to be suicidal, but realizing his mother had killed his love as well as his spiritual leader I guess was too much.

So where did she get the face? Did Jaqen allow her to take a bunch from the Hall of Faces, or did she take a contract on a kitchen wench and take her face?

Good to see Arya cross another one off her list. The ones who are left include Cersei, Ilyn Payne, The Mountain, The Hound, Melisandre, Beric Dondarian, and Thoros of Myr.

Maybe Hot Pie gave her some tips. I’m surprised she had so much time in the kitchen alone.

Jaime is Cersei’s younger twin, so could be her “little brother”

I believe you’re thinking of his father, the mad king, but I could be wrong.
[ETA: The more I think about it, the more I think I am wrong. If so, who was the mad king’s wife?]

Is that right? I didn’t notice that. I’ll have to look closer when I rewatch it.

If that came from the show (cold opening for season 5, IIRC), then it’s fair game.

There was a slice missing. I had the impression that old Frey was going for seconds.

It is shown this season when Ned fights Arthur Dayne to rescue his sister. He tells Dayne that Rhaegar died at the Trident, but Dayne says he’s carrying out his orders anyway, so that pretty clearly refreshed us that Rhaegar had kidnapped Lyanna and kept her locked away in that tower with a few loyal knights guarding it.

Ellia Martell, Prince Oberyn’s sister, already killed at this point by the Mountain. (“You raped her, you murdered her, you killed her children!”)

Please refresh my memory. What’s her beef with Beric Dondarian and Thoros of Myr?

Rhaegar was married to Elia Martell. The mad King was married to his sister.

It’s what starts Bronn lamenting that Jaime has it so easy with women.

King Aerys II Targaryen (“the Mad King”) was married to his sister/wife, Rhaella Targaryen.

Prince Rhaegar Targaryen (their son) was married to Princess Elia Martell of Dorne.

They sold her pal Gendry to Melisandre.

Since Melisandre is heading south, she may well run into the Brotherhood Without Banners again, who are heading North from the Riverlands. And the Hound is with them. So Arya could have a a shot at four people on her list all in the same place. (However, if she sees the Hound again I expect she’ll give him a pass.)

Not only would it be a good political move, but in keeping with the royal tradition of incest, he’s her nephew!

She’s his aunt, which I suppose for a lineage that usually marries siblings might not be a big deal. On the other hand, Jon and Sansa are first cousins instead of half-siblings, so they could probably marry too.

I don’t know if he’s gone from the story for good, but we haven’t had any updates on Jorah since he parted ways with Dany and company.
