Game of Thrones, Fire and Blood, 6/19/11

Right, this.

He’s in LOVE with his sister. They keep their sex a secret for two reasons: one, it’ll get them both killed, most likely along with their children, and two, well, Cersei’s ambitious. That’s pretty obvious. Even if they came out and ran away together, or somehow managed to play it off as “the Targeryns did it!” their children won’t be eligible for the throne, and that would leave Cersei high and dry.

True. Without being spoilery, just to be clear, while they don’t want to be caught and killed, neither one of them is in the least bit ashamed of their relationship. In a way they are almost fiercely proud to be fucking each other.

Does anyone know (and you can spoiler box this) if they are going to start up again next season about 10 years in the future? They’ve killed off most of the interesting adults, and I really don’t have much interest in any of the kids, including Joffrey (who, to me, is basically King Justin Bieber with a mean streak).

Tyrion isn’t interesting? Or Littlefinger or Dany (now with dragons!), or Jaime or the Hound?

It picks up where it left off. The kids start to really develop now, though. The death of Ned is really like a prelude to the saga. Now it starts.

Bumping off Joffrey would be a bit of a service … oh, wait … his own kid. Right. Quite the ethical dilemma.

Wow, that really surprises me. Robert isn’t that interesting IMO, and Ned’s interesting, but hardly the only interesting one. Varys and Littlefinger have a wonderful set of schemes going on, and the actors ooze awfulness in different ways. Tyrion is having supermuch fun. Cersei is all kinds of evil, and Jaime is all kinds of arrogant. True, there are adults left who aren’t a ton of fun–I’m not partial to Tywin or Stannis or Jon or Robb, and even Cat leaves me cold a lot of the time–but basically all the young Lannister adults and all the castle plotters are fantastic. And then there’s Dany, and I can’t possibly see how she’s not interesting.

No, (again, not being spoilery) there are jumps of a few weeks to few months here and there in the book timeline but not years. So much happens all the time huge time leaps would destroy the integrity of the story.

Re "most of the interesting adults being killed off’ this is really more of a problem for the way the TV series needs to compress action. In the book there is always a bunch of background action and extensive plot development for characters that will be brought from the background to the foreground. This is really impossible to do in the limited time a TV show offers. “Interesting” characters come to the fore all the time.

Both the book and the series offer strengths. Honestly, some of the character scripting in the series is, IMO, superior to the books. Cersi’s personality is presented in a more believable and nuanced fashion in the series than the book. I think the show scripting has a better feel for female characters in general than the book does.

Also, the adults killed off so far were far from the most interesting characters. Eddard Stark and Khal Drogo had their merits but they were not (by any stretch) the most interesting characters.

It’s also my understanding that more major characters are going to be introduced in the upcoming seasons. What is there (character wise) now will not be all there is going to be.

Tyrion isn’t interesting?

Not really. I know it’s fashionable to like the dwarf, but I find his bad, fake accent irritating, and his character completely unbelievable.

Dany isn’t nearly as interesting as Drogo, despite her being hot (no pun intended). Yeah, I probably exaggerated by saying “all” the interesting adults, but the thing is that I’m just not interested in children, and as more of the main adult characters get killed, we get more of the kids.

Drogo and Ned were pretty one dimensional fairly uninteresting characters. There are plenty of stories about the noble hero who always does the right thing and savage conquering brutes around if that’s your thing.

I don’t think Ned was one-dimensional, and to the extent that Drogo is, the other major characters are, too.

We need a “slap joffrey” app. Have him say various obnoxious stuff and use the touch screen to administer beat downs on the little oik.

Actually, that’s a brilliant idea. Maybe not that exact one, but I’m sure there is a boatload of $$ to be made coming up with the right apps to go along with this series, what with the overlap between the fanboys and the iPhone/Pad owning public.

Wow, I hate Dany and even I found her a lot more interesting than her husband.

Don’t ask me why I hate Dany, I’m not allowed to say in this thread

You mean her sun and stars?

I find the Dothraki interesting, and he’s the head honcho. Maybe another Dothraki will step up to the plate.

Well why can’t you keep your damn opinions ideas and so forth based on the damn books out of this damn thread? Have you missed EVERY SINGLE REQUEST not to do so?

No, it won’t be ten years in the future, but I don’t think it’s a spoiler to assure you that there will be no lack of interesting adults next season. It would be a spoiler to give examples, so I shan’t.

Sure, but to be fair typically those stories involve the noble and savage brute winning.

Conan, Drogo ain’t. Or weren’t.

And damn well never will be, if you ask me :stuck_out_tongue:
