Game of Thrones: omnibus discussion thread based on knowledge of books (OPEN SPOILERS)

It makes the Arya chapters in CoK much more suspenseful after yoren spirits her away from King’s Landing.

Biter is in that party going north to the wall (albeit in chains). He has a couple of interactions with Arya on that trip. It was chilling ‘seeing’ her so close to such a monster.

I sometimes wonder what Mormont would have done with an individual like that had he actually made it to the Wall…

Ahhh, thank you! That scene was really starting to freak me out.

It was bad in writing, but somehow SO MUCH worse in the audiobook. Probably because you can’t just skip ahead mentally and be like “yup, eating her cheek, got it.”

House Martell (and their words) were mentioned in the episode where we see Maester Luwin tutoring a now-crippled Bran, while Theon is shooting arrows at a target in the background. Dorne has also been mentioned (by Tyrion). So neither of those are spoilers. I don’t remember if the fact that House Martell rules Dorne has come up in the show, but it would be a spoiler of the most insignificant kind if it hasn’t.

Frankly, I doubt that any of this will be much of an issue for Season 2, as I suspect most of the non book readers here on the Dope will have broken down and read the series by then.

Rorge ran a pit fighting ring in Flea Bottom. He found Biter when biter was little and put him in the ring. The filed teeth and insanity are a result.

That back story is canon.

Next season we need two threads for each episode:

  • Readers: threads for people who have read the damn books and those who seek answers that might be book based. Any whiners about spoilers in those threads should be pitted.

  • The Unsullied: threads just for people who for whatever their reasons would like to pretend the books do not exist. Anyone asking questions/making comments that aren’t 100% show based should be ousted from the threads.

It it too damn hard to remember exactly what was said in the episodes vs what might have been mentioned in the books because there is so much overlap (sign of a good adaptation, actually), and most of us suffer from wanting to teach people/share knowledge so we’re far too tempted to say too much. We would have saved ourselves a lot of complaining and eye-rolling if we did it this way to begin with.

Don’t worry, if no one else takes on the task, I’ll volunteer to create all the readers’ threads the day of the episodes, even if I never do watch a show before my cable company offers it on In Demand. It’s not like I’d spoil myself :stuck_out_tongue:

I’d love to hear The Bear and the Maiden Fair done as well. Maybe they could get some folksinger type to set it to music.

It cracks me up that the non-readers on TWOP took to calling themselves The Unsullied. I can’t wait until that plot point arises.

Somebody must’ve known, or suggested it to them. I mean, c’mon, what are the odds?

But will they be mad when they realize it was a spoiler?

Another vote for a second episode thread for each one next season. The whining and arguing detract too much from the threads.

oh my god the current one is just beyond the pale.

The book readers at TWOP started using the word for the “virgins.” The Unsullied supposedly ignore most of the other spoiler-strewn threads available but there’s apparently been some leakage…

I think these threads are probably requiring more mod attention than every other cafe society thread (post-zombie rule change) combined, and I do mean all the threads back several years since the CS’s inception.

I really do think it’s the nature of the source book(s). ASoIaF is sooo convoluted and interconnected that it’s HARD to not inadvertently spoil (or “spoil” ) stuff. I think that if they ever adapt something like the Mazalan books or Wheel of Time, we’ll have the same problem.

Well hell though, right now people who haven’t read the book aren’t allowed to speculate forward with their OWN ideas of what’s going on in the next bit? Insane!

Not true. It’s just that those who HAVE read the books are to pretend such posts never happened.

No, it is true. The season one thread is now missing several posts where non-readers guessed what would happen in season two. It’s now 22 posts long, but was 30 posts long when I went to bed.

Wasn’t that just one poster trolling?

The thread count going down was my posts being moved to another thread, but I wasn’t trolling. Please don’t accuse me of such; it’s against the rules (although that would seem to be a non-enforced rule).

You were, however, shitting on a thread that a lot of people enjoyed. Frankly, one of my favorite things is to watch people who are new to this story react to its twists and turns. I’m very careful to not spoil them, and telling them what doesn’t happen in the books is a spoiler. It’s really not that difficult to pretend that the books don’t exist in that thread–if people have questions, send a PM. The only person who seemed to have a problem with it is you, and I know you quite well enough to see through that stupid act in the most recent one.
