Those are pretty close to how I imagined them in my head when I first read the books.
While reading book 3, I got this great mental image of Ygritte and Tormund singing Last of the Giants then the whole Wildling host joining in as they marched. I’d love to see a scene like that in the TV series.
It sure was. Even knowing the outcome, I was on the edge of my seat.
The standout scene for me was The Hound and Sansa. And The Hound and Joffrey. “Fuck the King”. And Podrick taking out Ser Mandon. And – what a relief – Tyrion keeps his nose.
Man, hearing “The Rains of Castamere” right after Tywin’s entrance was pretty darned cool. That’s actually his song, isn’t it? I mean, the events depicted - it was Tywin Lannister who broke Castamere.
Also - that Fuhrerbunker moment on the Iron Throne was Cersei and Tommen was deeply, deeply disturbing.
More to like – Joffrey looking ashamed when he left, and the look on Tyrion’s face when he saw the effect of the wildfire. I don’t remember what happens next, but if Tyrion ordered the wildfire destroyed/buried/lost in a giant warehouse, that’d be a good thing.
Did Cersei stab Lancel or did she just punch him in the chest really hard?
She struck him in a wound he had just received in the battle.
Great episode. I thought that the second season wasn’t quite as strong as the first, but then I remembered how good the last two episodes of the first season were, and I realized I just needed to give them some time.I loved when Davos said “They want to play music? Let’s play!” and they start with the signal drums. It made Stannis’s fleet seem very menacing.
I loved Tywin and Loras’s big damn hero moment. It illustrates wonderfully how complex and deep the series can be. Tywin is the damn bad guy, but admit it, you were glad to see him show up just in the nick of time. At least I was. And I’m one of the few people who actually likes Stannis. He’s King Snarker, even if he’s a little subtle about it.
Speaking of Stannis, I think Stephan Dillane is doing an excellent job portraying Stannis. Credit should also go to the writers for providing the characterization of course. Tv Stannis is almost exactly how I imagined book Stannis. I just wish he had a bit more screen time.
What are we to make of Cersei telling Tommen he’d be king someday? Was it something nice for him to think about before she put him to sleep? Tommen didn’t seem all that upset or even aware of what was going on.
Was Cersei realizing that even if the Lannisters live to fight another day, Joffrey’s reign can’t last?
