Game of Thrones Season 2 - OPEN SPOILERS Discussion Thread

I was wondering the same, at first, but them remembered/realized she was telling him a story about lions, and it was the lion talking to it’s son about leading the pride, and…something something…anyway, I believe she was referring to Joffrey through it all, and…at some point…herself. Or maybe just the story of thrones in general.

Great episode; thanks for the advice on the television, I changed the contrast and brightness just a little and it really helped.

And now I need to watch it again; somehow I missed noticing the Rains was playing while Tywin came in; awesome!

So I take Joffery is going to buy it next episode?

Nope.

Someone in the No Spoilers thread said something like, oh good - now Tywin will have to respect Tyrion.

Heheheh. I spent most of book three shouting, he saved your entire kingdom, you ungrateful cunts.

That was me. I still insist that it is possible…in the series. They made Tywin a grandfatherly figure to Arya after all.

That’s not entirely true though, Tyrion put up a hell of a fight but he would have lost anyways.

Tywin is under the impression that he (Tywin) saved the day and won the battle, and that Tyrion merely fought an effective delaying action. Which is true in a way. The battle and the war might have been lost if not for Tyrion’s actions. But the battle would have certainly been lost without Tywin’s timely arrival.

The way Tyrion views Tywin is very interesting in the books. Tywin has done such horrible things to Tyrion, that Tyrion views every action his father takes against him as an insult. Tywin appoints Tyrion as Master of Coin. Which is an extremely powerful position. Tyrion views this as an insult and a demotion. But what did he expect Tywin to do, resign as hand of the king and let Tyrion have the job? Tywin refuses to give Tyrion Casterly Rock, dick move on Tywin’s behalf. But then Tywin marries Tyrion to Sansa Stark, giving Tyrion a claim to Winterfell. Tyrion resents this too, which baffles Tywin. He essentially says something like “But you wanted to be a powerful lord, and I know you like pretty girls, I thought this would make you happy?”

Jaime does the same to Tywin. Tywin gives him a Valyrian steel sword, a very expensive gift. Jaime assumes it’s an insult because he’s lost his hand, even though Tywin’s brother assures Jaime the gift was meant to be genuine.

It all ends up being an interesting lesson about behaving the way Tywin does. Pull enough dick moves, and pretty soon everybody assumes every move you make is a dick one. Note none of this means I think Tywin wasn’t a bad dude. He was a very bad dude. I just find him an interesting character.

What were Tyrion’s men chanting, after they succeeded in stopping the battering ram? It sounded like “hold fast, hold fast” but that doesn’t seem right.

Half-man, I think.

Don’t you think that Dinklage, especially so after his Emmy, has to be held in the highest regard by fellow actors who are LPs? I can’t think of a meatier role that has been handled so well.

Definitely Halfman, it was what his tribesmen called him and he used it in his speech before going out. “They call me half-man, what does that make you lot?”.

:smack: And that explains Tyrion’s “then I’d be a quarterman” comment, which had me going

OK, i’ve been googling and can’t find it. Was it ever revealed in the books why Mandon Moore turned on Tyrion? I think I remember Tyrion thinking back on it in ADwD, but did he or the reader ever find it out?

Tyrion pretty much assumes that Cersei sent Moore to kill him. The reader isn’t given any reason to believe otherwise.

EW is reporting that both Reeds, the Queen of Thorns, and Edmure and Brynden Tully will all be cast for S3.

The Queen of Thorns has to be Maggie Smith. We’re all in agreement on this, right?

It is known.

I always pictured the Queen of Thorns as looking a bit sweeter than Maggie Smith. More like Rosemary Harris. Someone who looks a bit less severe than she really is.

Oh come on. The role was made for Betty White. ::d&r::

Wait, who’s the Queen of Thorns again?
