Game of Thrones Season 2 - OPEN SPOILERS Discussion Thread

Margaery Tyrell’s granny.

Ah, yes, thank you. She was a force to be reckoned with!
Yeah, they just need to import Maggie Smith in from Downton Abbey and be done with it.

I thought it was hinted somewhere that Moore might have been in Littlefinger’s pocket. I can’t remember where I got that idea though.

I agree that Maggie Smith seems too obviously formidable to play Grandma Tyrell.

No. Maggie is much too young and hale for Queen of Thorns. It needs somebody really old, stooped and wiry. Someone you don’t see coming until the thorns come flying from her mouth.

Gloria Stuart (Titanic) would have been perfect. Is Lillian Gish still about?

Lindsay Lohan has the right look, but has she got the chops?

(D&R)

They could always take her in a different direction…

Dame Judi Dench, perhaps?

Here is that article that discusses which characters will be cast. It’s not an exhaustive list–Ramsay Snow is notably missing.

I snorted. :stuck_out_tongue:

I had to look up Queen of Thorns, then smack my forehead for forgetting. Revisiting the Wiki reminded me of a lot I’d missed/forgotten in the books, like…she was apparantly instrumental in Joffrey’s death, etc. I know the series is NOT the book, and they may decide to go a whole different way with it, but I like to think her character would be even more obviously controlling things in the background, than was immediately obvious in the book.

The way the series is going they’ll probably condense the queen away to nothing. Maybe make it all Margery since they’ve already bad-assed Marg up in the series. The Tyrell’s were such a normal house-- I mean, in comparison to the other great houses. Not too noble, not too aggressive, not too insane, not too inbred and very practical.

Maybe you’re thinking of the Kettleblack brothers?

Has anybody seen the trailer that portrays Game of Thrones as a buddy comedy starring Tyrion and Bronn? It’s hilarious.

My thoughts on tonight’s episode:

Is Stannis gonna have to choke a witch?

How’s this for a switch-- The tv series spoiled the books for me. When last I left Theon, Roose Bolton’s bastard’s spy (or was that actually Bolton’s bastard?) had killed him dead. Unless the series really, really changed that storyline, Theon is not dead at all.

The show continues to make all the characters much better people than they were in the books. Theon’s foolhardy ‘we’ll go down fighting!’ puts him in a much better light than him opening up the keep to The Bastard’s men and never realizing it until he was struck down.

That was actually Boltons bastard and Theon is not dead

So – assuming those were really Robb’s or Bolton’s men outside Winterfell, why did they burn the place? Did someone tell them Theon had killed Bran and Rickon? I don’t remember Robb saying “find my brothers”.

I liked the changes, especially Dany’s, and Ducksauce’s ending (but we’ll see him again, won’t we?) And I agree with Sepinwall that episodes like Blackwater – where we’re not jumping around getting bits and pieces – do a better job of telling the story.

In the book the force sieging winterfell was actually led by funny mustache guy that Theon beheaded, Bolton’s bastard was a prisoner inside winterfell for a lot of awful crimes he committed. He talked Theon into letting him go gather a force to save him, he shows up at Winterfell and pretends to be an ally of the northmen and then slaughters the army outside killing funny mustache guy and a few of Robbs bannermen in the process. Theon then opens the gates of Winterfell to him, the bastard then slaughters everyone inside and takes Theon prisoner. Then he blames everything on the Iron Men and takes credit for capturing Theon. I cannot even begin to explain what was supposed to happen in the show, i assume the iron men opened the gates and the bastard killed them all and sacked/burned Winterfell and is going to blame them and take credit for capturing Theon.

Yeah, the book makes it seem more like Roose Bolton played things by ear and turned coat when he felt he had the upper hand. The TV show is set up so that either Bolton has been actively scheming behind the scenes this whole time, or his bastard unilaterally overstepped his bounds and sacked the castle.

So where do you think they are going with Dany? Will they skip all the Meereen stuff and have her return quickly to Westeros on a ship that she now has the money to pay for?

No way, they couldn’t just go making up an entire plot line for her like that. She’s going to do the whole slavers bay thing, at least she needs her army of eunuchs. I imagine next season she’s going to be going around rampaging around slaver’s bay freeing slaves.

The destruction of Winterfell was just plain stupid. Winter is nigh, and they destroy a self-warming castle and it’s green house? This is our first clue that Ramsey (Bolton’s Bastard) is just a full-on Anti-social Personality.

Why would they even bother to cast her, if she isn’t going to play any significant role?
