I had a speculative idea just now I hadn’t heard before. I’ve heard speculation that the spiral symbol seen many times in relation to The Night King is an eye…maybe there’s a dead dragon buried underneath that symbol and that’s just how big it is. That’s its eye beneath the surface and the Night King will raise an undead dragon.
If GRRM’s idea that Jon is a Fire Wight holds water in the tv series – maybe he can only be killed by being stabbed with an icicle? Or some other ‘ice’ related substance.
Where the heck did everyone on Dragonstone go? I understand that the castellan might’ve beat feet as soon as he heard of Stannis’ defeat, but there are no… feral puffins?
Broadbent is a little uncanny valley for me with a beard. I guess he’s playing Ebrose (don’t remember his scenes from the books) and not Marwyn.
Wait, what?
Jon has already been killed using regular blades.
Right. Plenty of regular wights were killed with regular blades too. They just can’t be killed with regular blades after they’re raised.
Ah! You mean Jon will be like Uncle Coldhands?
Was Coldhands ever explained, either in the books or show?
Coldhands wasn’t explained in the book. We just know (think?) that he’s a long dead former member of the Night’s Watch.
In the show Benjen is partially turned into a wight by the white walkers and the children of the forest save him.
Personally, I thought that long tracking shot last night was going to culminate on Benjen back in the Army of the Dead and then segue to Bran being taken through The Wall…but I guess the Mark Theory is dead if the Army is going around the Wall to the East.
or its a feint. Which could be how we don’t lose all our Damn Heroes in that battle.
Then again, Beric seems to be killed easily enough by any sharp object within 50 feet of him.
But he hasn’t been raised by The Night King.
P.S., You mean after all these thousands of years the undead could have just walked around the wall?
GRRM explicitly told his publisher that Coldhands is not Benjen. Of course, that is just from a private conversation and not something that could change later.
Just read speculation that Shireen was actually cured because she lived on Dragonstone and was near dragonglass.
Preston Jacobs brings the snark(impressively quick turnaround time too).
I like the way they introduced Sad Hound - he’s going through a hard process of repentance and atonement, which could lead eventually to redemption. He’s doing it in the company of religiously minded types who aren’t shy of a debate about the meaning of life and the nature of god. So very similar to where (we think) he is in the books, emotionally speaking. But he’s also on the move towards a plot-relevant part of the world, in a way that brings a couple of other wayward characters back into the narrative fold. It’s really quite neat without being contrived.
So, I guess Danys forces are going to get splintered and picked off cause otherwise it would be anticlimatic…but once again the ‘good guys’ (??) have overwhelming force and are beaten back. Ugh…
At this point the unstoppable Anya Stark looks like the best hope for beating Cersei. Maybe Arya will strangle her disguised as Jaime or Tyrion.
SHHHH! If you say that, she’ll be dead before the next episode’s opening credits.
Nahhhh…I’ve got karma hot on the heels of this “Anya” Stark now! ARYA Stark will give the mad queen a right sorting.
Do the Targaryens have bunnies?
In ancient times. They were worse than dragons.
