Game of Thrones, The Pointy End, 6/5/11

Is white writing on top of a light grey background? Who decided that was a good idea?

Interesting. Osha the cock ogler is played by the same actresswho played Nymphadora Tonks in Harry Potter.

What the hell do you expect? Hoder does the best he can within the limits of his capabilities.

Am I the only one who squealed with glee that The Greatjon is being played by Little John from the old BBC Robin of Sherwood?

Hah, thats awesome i had no idea.

Wasn’t there a big wet post-coital peen in the second or third episode?

I really liked the scene between Tywin and Jaime in the last episode and the scene between Tywin and Tyrion is a good followup. Tywin is overflowing with fatherly pride when he says that Jaime has covered himself with glory . And though Tyrion makes light of it you can tell that he is eaten up by Tywin’s open contempt for him.

And you just know that if Jamie was there he’d still find a way to put him down too.

Me too! Cool guys don’t look back at really big fires, either. They just grimly keep walkin’ towards the camera.

A nice little bit of business with Tyrion when he finally came face to face with his dad was how desperate he was for a drink, and how his dad took the mug away from him at first. Later, when Tywin is talking to the others, Tyrion gratefully sneaks his booze anyway.

I knew it! Thanks for the confirmation.

I found that scene much more informative and entertaining than Tywin and Jaime’s. You gotta know that Tywin is absolutely loving putting Tyrion amongst the Hill people in battle. How fitting that his embarrassment of a son is leading the savages into battle. Tyrion could die or triumph. It’s win-win.

I hope he kicks ass in The Vale. I’ve already said that I dislike Cate and her crazy sister and her koo-koo castle can nurse themselves to death for all I care.

Best case scenario-- Jaime sits with his thumb up his as while he waits for 20,000 men who aren’t coming while Tyrion makes that little brat fly.

Have we ever had an HBO series episode title so in tune with current events?

How so?

A joke about Rep. Weiner’s recent travails, I presume…

Two other points:

  • Tyrion and the tribesmen just walked right into Tywin’s camp from the woods. Very sloppy of the Lannisters - if they were smart, they would have scouts and skirmishers out.

  • If I were the top tribal dude with the horned helmet, I’d listen to Tywin make his offer of further glory fighting at the Lannisters’ side and say, “Nah, we already made our deal with your son the dwarf. I don’t know if you’re going to win your battle, so we’ll just take our reward now and be on our way. The Lannisters always pay their debts, right? Yeah. Thought so. Thanks.”

Nice catch; I didn’t notice this. That introduction scene is a classic too. The look on Chella’s face is priceless and I laughed out loud when Bronn said “You wouldn’t know him”.

My questions is where are the Barentheon brothers when all this going down. Stannis, the rightful heir, and Renly were not mentioned last week and last we heard Renly was going to Dragonstone to get Stannis mobilized. Stannis is also master of the ships which would seem to indicate that he controls the navy. Dragonstone is fairly close to Kings Landing, so he should arrived within a fairly quickly time period. But no Barentheon’s Bros last week, right?

Methinks something is rotten in the state of Westros.

Renly isn’t going to Dragonstone - he’s made it clear that he wants to be king, not back Stannis’s claim. He left with Loras Tyrell. I can’t remember if it was clear where they were going.

Riding off south.

Stannis is north.

That’s the thing about Bronn - while everyone else in the story is burdened with family and loyalties and obligations, he’s just a guy who’s good with a sword and doesn’t owe anyone anything. If GoT were a game of D&D, he’d be the PC.

They’re trying to rally troops.

They’re not in the same position as Robb. The Starks and Tullies are already in conflict with the Lannisters - Sansa’s a hostage, Arya is thought to be, too, Ned’s a prisoner, facing execution, they have good reason to believe the Lannisters attempted to kill Bran, and the Lannisters are already actively attacking the Tullies.

Those houses loyal to the Baratheons are, or should be, loyal to Joffrey as the head of the family, with the death of his nominal father - unless they’re like Loras, and thus have a personal loyalty to one of the surviving brothers - and those with no particular loyalty to them, should have some loyalty to the crown, so most of them need to be convinced that Joffrey has no legitimate claim to the throne. Once that’s happened, Stannis and Renly are both making individual claimson the crown [Edit - I feel the need to note - not a book spoiler, all stuff mentioned or at least strongly implied in the show.], so each is trying to convince enough of them to side with him rather than the other brother, to mount an offensive with a significant chance of winning. (A job made harder by the Starks and Tullies already marching on their own.)
