Just downloading Battlefield 1942 MP Demo and it got me wondering; What games do Dopers play? I’m prone to FPS games and the rare RPG. I’m thinking on picking up BF1942 and Asherons Call 2 for Christmas. Anyone got some feedback on either? I usually play any game provided theres some online features.
I play Unreal Tournament, with the occasional foray into Quake III.
On UT I’m “An_Anthropology_Major.”
I’ve played my share of 42. It’s fun, but I only really enjoy it when I’m playing with a group of people I know (Wednesday nights, 9 pm, roger wilco channel…)
My current fix is Hearts of Iron, with an occasional jaunt back to Europa Universalis II. Right now, Paradox could release any game with that engine and I’d buy it in a heartbeat. (Hear that, guys? Let’s get Crusader Kings out the door now.)
My favorites are Age of Empires and Heroes of Might and Magic.
UT was fun but it messed up my system.
Jak se mas? I’m trying to learn Czech.
Neverwinter Nights and Dark Age of Camelot are my current favorites. A friend who I play DAoC with bought me the expansion for Christmas; I got it yesterday.
I always go back to Starcraft.
GTA II for stress-relief. (Can you tell I’m still running at 266Mhz?)
Right now I’ve been playing Half-Life mods, namely Natural Selection. I’ll play UT, but not online. I’m thinking of getting back into Arcanum for the winter break.
Though come Xmas, I’ll be running GTA3 with the Benny Hill theme playing for hours on end.
I want to get GTA 3: Vice City. Still a while until it’s out for PC though.
Anything I’m sent, though I don’t review sports titles, wargames or flying sims.
The last two I actually bought were Warcraft III and NOLF2. I plan to buy Casino Empire if I can’t get it for review.
I play Unreal Tournament 2003…but it seems there are few Dopers that do.
I haven’t really played any games lately, but I am a recovering EverCrack addict, and I am thinking about getting into Earth and Beyond. Anyone out there ever play it?
Any first person shooter with a good story-line. I aim to loose myself in a game.
God how I miss the old adventure games, especially the Lucasarts creations. I look forward to the growing fusion of adventure and FPS. It seems to be their only real hope.
closes eyes tightly and dreams about Deus Ex 2: The Invisible War
I just got PS2, so I’ve been playing it more than the computer these days. I have GTA: Vice City and FFX. Good stuff. I play Warcraft III and GTA3 and Civ3 sometimes, too.
I usually play sims. If it has the words “Sim,” “Tycoon,” “Theme” or “Creatures” in it, I probably have it and all its expansions.( well, besides Fastfood, I only have the more popular Tycoon Games, no mall or Skatepark ones) Of the MAXIS Sim games, including the kids ones, I think I have all but SimEarth and SimGolf, which is slightly scary.
The Sims and Zoo Tycoon are my biggest vices at the moment, though, which will probably change if I get RCT2 for Christmas and SC4000 in January.
I’m just not drawn to goal oriented games. I think my biggest problem with Black & White, once I finally got it running, is that I don’t like that they expect me to actually do things. I haven’t progressed beyond world two because I’m content to create the little villiages and don’t really want to do anything else.
I’m not much a computer gamer but lately my roomie has been sticking stuff on my comp. So awhile ago I was goofing with Age of Wonders (my doing) and today has been Heroes of Might and Magic 3 (his doing to prove that he can pick better games)
For awhile I was really into V:tM Redemption, but now my comp won’t run it. So I just get my fic with the LARP’s of V:tM in this town. Much better.
Warcraft III, right now and for the last few months. Before that was CounterStrike for about a year. Before that was Age of Empires 2, and Starcraft. I’m a huge RTS fan.
Empire Earth is a great game! I have wasted countless hours online with it. I am also really hooked on Ghost Recon. It is the most fun of any of the FPS games I have played. My comp just can’t handle B. 1942, I hear it is a lot of fun also.
A lot of the fun for me comes from the people I play online with. My brother and I can spend many late evenings trying to destroy each other.
A variety of games - but Civ3 always calls me back. Although i’ve edited mine slightly to include a “Redcoat” Specialist Unit for the british rather than the Man of War.
I used to consider myself a computer gamer (just ask Lucretia !), but lately (about a year now), I’ve played Combat Mission (WWII tactical combat) exclusively.
There are two flavors (Beyond OVERLORD and Barbarossa to Berlin ; Western Front after June '44 and Eastern Front after June '41, respectively). More on the way for early Western Front, North Africa/Mediterranean, possibly even Pacific.
Plays VERY well, and as far as I can see, no end to replay value, due to an excellent editor. There are any number of scenarios and mods free for the taking. The online communities that have grown up around this game is phenomenal. The best of these is called Band of Brothers .
Wargamers, if you have any interest in this period, here’s your new passion. Five stars.
