Gaming Dopers: What's Your Fix?

I’m pretty good at Solitaire.

Counter-Strike, baby. The most played game online with 100,000 simultaneous players on weekends, and only $5!

I’m an EverCrack Ho.

And I don’t care.

Everquest, although I think my interest is waning a bit. I find myself getting more and more pissed when I get in a group of dumbasses, and my guild is rapidly going downhill.

'course, I really, really, really want 60 and KEI, so I probably won’t quit for real 'til I get that. Currently 56.5, and levelling fast.

I’m currently looking closely at Battlefield 1942, and am hoping that Star Wars Galaxies turns out to be as good as it looks.

I also like Morrowind a lot, and have played my share of Neverwinter Nights.

Diplomacy.

BF 1942 demo was fun to a point, but it seems to be rather buggy on my system and a resource hog (or at least its online capabilities weren’t very good compared to say UT2003). So, shortly after the actual game came out, I lost interest.

I primarily play UT with the Tac Ops mod - still hundreds of players out there everynight, and it leaves me enough bandwidth that I can also use voice comm during the game to strategize with other players. Yes, it’s geeky, I know. Shut up.

Role-playing games, and I can play them over and over without getting bored. Right now I’m re-playing ‘Wizardry 8’. Afterwards I’m not sure - I’ll either pick up ‘Morrowind’ or ‘Divine Divinity’ or maybe re-do an oldie.

Currently- Battlefield 1942, NOLF 2, and NFL 2K3 on the Playstation 2. NOLF 2 has great single player FPS fun- best in a long long time, but no real multiplayer action.

Battlefield is fun- but has way too many smacktards playing some times.

Is there any way to speed up the combat in Wizardry 8? The game itself was reasonably fun, but my god! You’d get into combat against 27 mosquitos or ladybugs or something, and each one would think, move, think, and attack, and then your guys would each have to go through the same process, and it took for freakin’ ever. I’d generally get up, go to the bathroom, go make coffee, take a nap, drink my coffee, read a newspaper, and come back to find that the mosquitos weren’t all done attacking yet. It drove me crazy, and I abandoned the game because of it.

I’m still playing Warcraft III, which I think is a fantastic game. I just realized last night that in custom games, the latest patch created an “insane” difficulty level for playing vs. the computer. Gonna have to try it out :).

Daniel

EverCrack… yep thats it.

I don’t think so, Daniel, but it’s been a few months since I played the game. It’s worth playing, though, even with the slow combat. Maybe if you adjusted the difficulty down so that they didn’t spend as much time “thinking”.

Warcraft III is a superb game. It took me a few months, but I finally finished the single player adventure. I haven’t enjoyed an RTS in ages (I didn’t even like Starcraft) either.

I’m an MMORPG whore. I’ve played nearly all of them, starting way back with Ultima Online, Everquest, Asheron’s Call, Anarchy Online, Dark Age of Camelot, and now I am hooked on Asheron’s Call 2.

AC2 is not without its flaws (poor enemy AI being the big one), but the game is idea for the player who only has an hour at a time. Quests are plentiful, and the graphics are the best to date. I miss the trade skills of UO, and the varied colorful graphics of EQ, but I like the lack of zoning and the lack of 10 hour waiting lists for ‘uber’ gear.

That said, this has been about the only pc game I’ve played of late. I have Age of Mythology and Warcraft 3, but have touched them little due to wanting to go and play more AC2. The same applies to the box of other software in my room barely played.

Apparently I’m the only loser still playing Diablo II. When that palls, I play a little Deus Ex or Unreal Tournament.

I play a little-known Half-Life knock off called Gunman Chronicles. I can waste a helluva lot of time doing this. I have Counterstrike, Team Fortress, and other HL mods but it’s Gunman that does it for me. My son and I are both in the same clan.

Few people play anymore so sometimes it’s a just a chat room with a game running in the background

If I had this in high school, I would have never left the house.

Oh Ethilrist, I liked the DiabloII demo. Is it worth buying for multiplayer?

DII is great! Old, but still a great game!

There are many Dopers who play together too.

the who with the what huh? Nobody told meeeeee…

At least half a dozen of us play on US East from time to time. When the realms are actually stable, that is.

Just finished GTA III, which is one of the most fun games I’ve played in a long time. Now I’m playing some UT 2003 and a lot of Civ III (that game is pure crack).

I played Battlefield 1942 on my brother’s computer when I was home for Thanksgiving. It was a lot of fun, but very laggy. Also, I really sucked at it, so I spent a lot of time getting shot and crashing planes into the ground.

D&D ( www.treyvan.com for an online game), Heroclix, Vice City, and Battletech. No, not Dark Age, Battletech.
