Gazoo Predicts the NFL - Week 2

Well, I went 14-1 last week (damn Bills beat the Titans!), so let’s try it again this week. Once again, please feel free to use the following prognostications for all your betting needs, but don’t come crying to me if Guido comes knocking on your door 'cuz you lost!

Falcons 17 - Broncos 23 (If the Broncos lose another running back, expect to see Dickerson come out of retirement.)

Panthers 31 - 49ers 14 (Not because the Panthers are any good, but because the 49ers would lose to several College teams)

Bears 6 - Tampa Bay 17 (Expect to see lots of Alstott)

Browns 14 - Bengals 13 (The bye in week one will hurt the Bengals who probably can’t even beat the 49ers)

Packers 10 - Bills 27 (Sorry Packer-backers, but circle 9/24/00…we should be able to beat the Cardinals!)

Jaguars 13 - Ravens 17 (That Ravens defense is really tough, and the offense is just good enough to get the win)

Chiefs 10 - Titans 24 (Titans recover from the loss by beating up on the Chiefs and their “running back by committee”)

Dolphins 19 - Vikings 13 (Daunte Culpepper, meet Mr. Zach Thomas)

Saints 12 - Chargers 10 (yawn!)

Giants 20 - Eagles 23 (I don’t think Dayne and Barber will have such an easy day against the Eagles defense)

Raiders 19 - Colts 27 (We may see Sebastian Janikowski line up for a 65 yarder in this one. Will he make it? Won’t matter, the Colts win either way)

Rams 31 - Seahawks 17 (The Ram offense keeps rolling, but the defense showed some weaknesses)

Redskins 20 - Lions 16 (Depending on who starts at QB for the Lions, this one could go the other way)

Cowboys 27 - Cardinals 20 (Dallas really sucks! The Cards are worse!)

Patriots 13 - Jets 24 (It’s just not the same without Tuna on the sideline)

Well, their you go. I actually changed my mind on two games while writing this, so that should tell you that I’m not nearly as confident as last week.

Hey Gazoo, the Niners are gonna do way bettert than that next week, they still have a great offense. Yeah, our defense so far still sucks, but hey I gotta believe right…right?

Sorry, stuffinb, but when freakin’ Fred Beasley is your offense, you have no offense!

We got him for blocking(besides he caught two touchdown passes last Sunday), but look at the rest of the offense Jeff averaged 300+ (and threw for 253 and 3 TDs Sunday) the last five games of last season. Terrell Owens (who will probably be the premier WR in the NFL in coming years) Charlie Garner, who despite his size is putting on a show. Even Jerry Rice is still contributing.

Nope, the Niners are gonna be fine, I predict at least an 8 for 8 season, remember where you heard it first.

Hey Gazoo – I was going to post an indignant reply to your assessment of the Packers, and also call into question your loyalty in light of you picking the Jets to win the opener. But upon reflection I realize that you may actually be too restrained. It’s the '80s all over again, man. I just didn’t think the guy doing the David Whitehurst impression would be Brett Favre. It’s gonna be a long, cold autumn in Wisconsin this year.

But hey, at least we’re not the Niners…stuffinb, you’re saying 8-8 and thinking that’s fine?

Ok fine everybody jump on the band wagon and dis my Niners.

BoS That’s just a start and a far cry from last years 4-12, Im mean hey we are rebuilding. But I think if the defense gets a chance to jell, the Niners are gonna surprise a lot of you wagon jumpers.

Hey, just kiddin’ stuffinb. The Niners are actually my next favorite team after the Packers. No bandwagon jumpin’ here. I save my true spite for the teams I have hated since I was a wee tot: The Cowboys and The Vikings.

I don’t know if it’ll be that bad. With free agency the way it is, I think they can recover much quicker. I fully expect this season to 7-9 or 8-8. If they can get a couple good free agents and people stay healthy they could easily contend again next year. Personally, I think Sherman will be a very good coach once he has the personnel.

Here’s hopin’.

I would feel better about their chances if they didn’t have so many key players either out or playing hurt (Brett Favre, Dorsey Levens, Brian Williams, Mike McKenzie, Corey Bradford, Earl Dotson, etc, etc, etc).

Gazoo….

I’m not sure the Bills will have to punt. With Mackenzie out we are weak. That score may be 40+ to 10.

Maybe Edwards steps into the starting role and Mackenzie comes back and gets the other starting job and we get rid of Tyrone Williams and his fat contract. That would be good.

I see a fire sale in the offseason. We lack overall talent on our squad. There are some good players but there are some highly overrated players as well. We need to get younger and faster.

Charlie Batch will start at QB for the Lions but Herman Moore will probably not play.
$kins safety Mark Carrier is suspended.
How do you like Detroit’s chances now, Gazoo?

Hmmm…that’s the news I was waiting for. Moore doesn’t matter much, I think he’s fading quick, but Batch has much more talent than Stoned Case. And they’re in the dome. Change the pick and hope Batch shakes the rust in a hurry–

Redskins 20 - Lions 23

Gazoo - the Rams defense showed some weaknesses? Speaking as a Rams fan, I must admit that is an understatment. The Ram defense looked horrible Monday night. How did all those Bronco receivers get open all the time like that? I only hope they don’t wait until the last drive again to step up and play this week.

Sorry, but even so, their record over the span of the six games you mention is 1-5. Of course he got three hundred yards, they had to throw-throw-throw to try to keep up at all.

They’ll end up 4-12 or 5-11. That’s giving them two wins over the Saints, one over the Cardinals, and possibilities against the Cowboys and the Chargers. Sorry, but just like us Packer fans, you’re in for a long ass season.

Bratman - geez, you’re tough on the home team. I want to see how they do against another team before I make final judgment on their defense. Maybe Denver just played them the right way. Maybe not.
