Gazoo's NFL pIcks - Week One

Okay, it’s Friday at 3pm before a long weekend, I’m not getting anything done. Might as well have some fun. My week one NFL picks:

Falcons 23 49ers 13 (Sledman and I could beat the 49ers)

Jaguars 24 Browns 9 (Ditto for the Browns)

Colts 17 Chiefs 13 (If it were in Indy they’d kill 'em)

Bears 31 Vikings 38 (Balls will be flying all over the Humpty Dome)

Bucs 14 Patriots 6 (New England is charging their way towards a 4-12 record)

Cardinals 10 Giants 24 (Cardinals are trying to get a better draft pick than the Patriots next year)

Lions 24 Saints 21 (Saints are getting better, but it’ll take a couple more games)

Ravens 31 Steelers 16 (One thing about the Ravens, they either score a ton, or hardly at all)

Panthers 13 Redskins 27 (Am I the only one who thinks the Panthers were a fluke last year? 6-10 this year.)

Eagles 27 Cowboys 24 (OT) (The Eagles always play the Cowboys tough, and this year they’re a better team too!)

Jets 24 Packers 16 (Sorry fellow Wisconsinites, the Pack is back…back to mediocrity.)

Chargers 17 Raiders 31 (Ryan Leaf? I don’t think so)

Seahawks 13 Dolphins 16 (If it were in Seattle it would go the other way. Side Prediction - Neither offense scores a TD, but both defenses do!)

Titans 31 Bills 20 (The Titans are destiny’s darlin’ this year – Super Bowl Bound!)

Broncos 23 Rams 35 (I don’t care if TD is back, these aren’t the same Broncos that won the Super Bowl.)

Feel free to use this advice in all your bets, just don’t come looking to me when you lose your shirt. :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ll say (and this pains me as a Chicagoan) that the Bears only score 17 points. They’re plainly a 6-10 team this year.

One major contention: Cowboys/Philly

1st, I think both those teams made significant changes, so it’s hard to predict the game.

That said, Dallas’ weakness is in its secondary. How are the Eagles going to take advantage of that? With Charles Johnson? Nah.

Cowboys will have the best offensive season since they won their second superbowl. Only their secondary will keep them back. This is a 9-7 team easily.

Cowboys 27 Philly 10

PS Philly is on the right track, but not this year.

Sigh. I hate to say it but Gazoo is right, the Packers are going to be really mediocre this year. Of course, as any Wisconsin Packer fan will tell you, I’d be happy if we went 2-12, as long as those 2 wins are against the Bears.
Of course, the way things have been the last few years, I’d rather beat the Vikings, but sadly, I don’t think that’s going to happen this year.

Despite large doses of reality during the pre-season I will still pick the Pack. Sheer offensive talent.

Packers in a shootout(they couldn’t stop your Mom) 41-38.

Heretic!! Patriots 4-12? Hah!! Try 16-0 baby!!
Undefeated, all the way to the SuperBowl!! Yeah!!
You heard me!
BwaHaHaHaHaHaHahahahaha

And the Red Sox!! Yeah, the Red Sox, they’re gonna win the World Series!! WooooHoooo.
Not just this year. Every year from here on out!!!
Yeah!! That’s right!!
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA!!!
{that’s maniacal laughter in case you didn’t get it}

No.

The Bills want more than a win against the Titans. They want revenge. They want to purge the nightmare memory of a trick kickoff return. They want to beat the Titans bloody and leave them lying on their own 15 yard line in a pool of viscous body gruel.

Tennessee may get to the Super Bowl this year, but Game One belongs to the Bills. They haven’t forgotten.

Bills 14 Titans 9.

Balls will be what?
…well this should prove to be interesting.

Go Bears!!

Gazoo said:

Too many points for the Ravens–the Steelers have a decent defense, and since Kordel Stewart isn’t starting there won’t be as many interception returns for TDs by Baltimore’s D.

Also too many points for the Steelers–the Steelers don’thave a decent offense, and Kent Graham has about as much mobility as John Madden.

My prediction: Ravens 17, Steelers 10.

Well, 13 of 14 to this point, not too bad!

JosephFinn - I think the Bears will do better than you think, McNown showed some ability yesterday, and they gave the Viqueens a run.

Prosser - well, your Cowboys didn’t really impress anyone before Aikman went out…the Eagles however looked very good!

LandKnecht and Sledman - Like I said, back to mediority.

DAVEW0071 - Good call. Boy, did Pittsburgh look horrible or what? I don’t think you’ll see that move of putting Kordell in at the goal-line much anymore.

MysterEcks - Good call. I missed this game, but judging from the box score it was a battle all the way. Luckily for me Eddie George scored so I could win my fantsy game!

Tune in next week. Same Gazoo time. Same Gazoo channel.

TYhey did do better than I expected, but they showed a certain uncohesiveness and an inability to make the big play. Frankly, I thought both the defenses were fairly mediocre. Should be interesting to see how they do against a strong defensive team.

I repeat for the Bears: 6-10

Congrats on the 13-1 record, by the way.

Good going, Gazoo–the only one you missed could have gone either way right up to the end.

Unfortunately, the Steeler offense proved to be even worse than I’d given them credit for–seven tries from inside the Raven three yard line, and they couldn’t get the ball into the endzone. Pathetic.

And my favorite college team is Penn State… <sigh>
