George Harrison Dead at 58

Both MSNBC and Fox News are reporting that former Beatle George Harrison has died of cancer at the age of 58. No further details yet.

:frowning:

Damn, he asked the media many months ago to just leave him alone and let him do what he had to do and spend his remaining days out of the media glare.

Thanks for the memories George. Vale.

Fear, this would be better suited to MPSIMS, really…

No offense to you but you may ask a mod to close this and put it in MPSIMS.

Egads, that is sad but we all have our time to come.

< note, Fear this isn’t a question, sorry dude >

Yes - everybody is reporting this now. So sad. He was very sexy (IMHO). Now my two favorite Beatles are gone.

God, I’ve got to quit smoking.

Hey, techdchik68, this is not mundane pointless stuff. Will probably wind up in Cafe Society.

Off to MPSIMS.

I think that we should all take very special care of Eric Clapton from here on in.

:frowning:

Thank you, George! Well done.

Oh, no!

Damn. :frowning:

Now my guitar gently weeps.

:frowning:

Thanks for all the music. We’ll miss you.

I hope I’m not being corny, posting this. I had to dig it up and listen.

“And in the end, the love you take
Is equal to the love
You make…”

You aren’t being corny. I thought about posting the whole song but I knew I couldn’t do it without violating the copyright laws which the SDMB enforces.

He was not my favorite musically: that was Lennon. But he was my favorite in terms of personality. I had great respect for him because it seemed like he matured the most during his tenure as a Beatle. He was younger than Lennon and McCartney, also Sutcliffe and Best when they were in the group, at an age when two or three years made a big difference. He got them to take him seriously anyway. I thought it was great that when the group started having friction, he was the one who said he didn’t want to stay together if it was going to be like that. He had other options by that time: playing with Clapton or Shankar if it came to that. He started out needing the others, but ended up self-sufficient. He did well at everything he tried: producing, performing with the Traveling Wilburys, and he was a lot more ebullient than his “quiet one” image.

You will be missed.

All things must pass
All things must pass away
All things must pass
None of life’s strings can last
So, I must be on my way…

Douglas Adams and George Harrison in the same year. Reality sucks sometimes, but they each left us such amazing legacies.

Nothing in this life that I’ve been trying
can equal or surpass the art of dying

Bye, George. We’ll miss you. :frowning:

My favorite Beatle. I don’t think he ever really got the recognition that he deserved, but he did what made him happy and that’s what counts in life.

*Suddenly, I’m not half the man I used to be
There’s a shadow hanging over me.
Oh, I believe in yesterday. * :frowning:

As the spiritual Beatle, I’m sure that George has gone on to his better place.

God speed.
